I have recently come back to CB radio and happily surprised at the new available freqs that are now available thank you for the explanation on these over the standard muppet freqs. I have recently purchased the same radio you were using and also have a ss9900 for possible mobile use too I have an antenna indoors that’s not exactly ideal but have got out 9miles simplex fm. Have purchased one of those t2 l wire antennas and a telescopic pole for DX work plus I can quickly put up in garden and take mobile to an elevated site. Thanks again for your valuable information as CB has changed so much plus the DX scene is where the excitement is without having to be a ham operator

Glad to hear your back on air. Those T2LT's work really well if you can keep them away from any buildings etc. I was listening yesterday and plenty of skip coming in around 27.555 USB. Sun cycle 25 is now in full swing and it promises a GREAT summer of skip.

27.385 is the freq. my friend and I use. We both have President McKinley AM / SSB radios. His antenna is 13.716 meters in height. My antenna is 16.4592 meters in height. The distance between our homes is a bit over 9 kilometers. Even during the daytime, when the skip is rolling along we get up over all of it and communicate in good order. We have talked with one station near the airport in Mio, Michigan, in the States ,that is 72 kilometers distant. We've used our CB radios so often we had to replace the microphones with new ones.

I was into cb in the late 70s and early 80s and had a ham international mulitmode 2. We had great solar activity and I regularly got round the world on 27mhz ssb on 5 watts. The first one was the blue ridge mountains in the USA. I nearly had a heart attack, it blew me away how I could talk to someone thousands of miles away. Good days!

Phew !! I thought you were going to give away the call frequencies for all my favourites..Oz NZ Germany both bands and US DX .... Good for beginners though...nice video don't forget guys if it is busy ....there will be at least..500 stations calling the station you are, if ONLY 50 stations from 10 EU countries are calling too.....and there maybe alot more !!!.. as north America may be calling southern states too... It's a jungle out there at times.. patience and a little skill is the KEY...

I am in the USA in NY . the CB skip has been crazy the past few months. been getting the UK early mooring NY time. the 555 and below. even 385 LSB. I even got DX on FM to the UK . some needle bender calls from the UK. I am using home made antenna from a park on battery. end fed half wave with ground plain on the ground. fiberglass pole hold wire up. 49:1 UNUN . get a great tune. 1.3 or less. also using the T2LT coax antenna on a DX commander pole. used Moonraker RG 8X coax . 65mm plastic bottle ends cut off for coil form. tunes 1.1 SWR to about 1.5 SWR threw the bands. using the Anytone 5555N II and 20 or 50 Ah LiFePO4 battery .I just got Midlands the outher day. nice girl in Derbyshire . one near London . I herd Nottingham but did not hear me, my antenna wire is made in England . great stuff. DX commander sells it. DX 10 and DX 50. I use his 10 meter fiberglass pole and the 7 meter one as well. 73's . Nice one Fred, and as always - Thank you 👍 .385 has (over the years) gradually been approaching "Super Bowl" status in some areas, so trying to make a real QSO is almost impossible depending on where you are, and where the skip happens to be coming from. There are other SSB channels where traffic is a rarity, and as many times as it's mentioned and or discussed in Facebook radio groups, or Radio website forums for sidebanders to use a channel other than 38 (35, 36, 37, 39, 40, and 16) - nothing changes. At the least, when calling CQ on 38 (even if all you're hearing is "11111111111111..") before you unkey the mic, ask for stations to move to one of the other channels to establish a QSO. Reasons: 1. It's polite 2. your conversations will last longer than 20 seconds and 3. It reduces traffic on 38 while increasing traffic on the other channels. When SKIP is active (and we're in the new sunspot cycle, so SKIP is almost an everyday occurrence, at least for my station in Texas) you'll find more stations listening for a CQ call on a frequency other than 27.385. This method has been successful for years more often than not on the Triple Nickel, so the concept is proven. As well, you won't need a huge amount of output power to have fun. But running excessive power, is another topic for another time. Afterthought: an overrun channel 38 could almost be a Simpsons episode. Homer and family are about to take a trip. There are several different ways out of Springfield, but Homer says to Marge: "Let's take Route 5 Marge... Marge replies: "Homer, that's a terrible choice! Traffic is bumper to bumper on that road". Homer nods slowly and says: "Exactly......".

27.025 (CB channel 6 AM here in the US) is often times virtually unusable in this part of the world. That and 27.085 (channel 11) on AM as well. There are way too many people running ridiculous amount of power on these channels. And over here in the US they are referred to as the "super bowl" channels. 27.385 LSB (channel 38) does well here.

tbh 6,11,28 are pretty much impossible to make a contact on normally when skip is rolling here. Just too many stations with too much power blowing out the frequencies. The 36,37,38,39,40 lsb etc can work quite well, but when skips good, there are so many stations on that it's hard to hold a conversation unless both of you are the loudest ones on the channel. No way I'd ever be able to hear Europe on 38lsb here on a good day. I'm usually able to work people stateside on AM from 12-35, and working people on lsb is usually easy, but hard to hold a convo. There are usually always some guys that hang out on 27.420-5 lsb that are outside of the riff raff of the standard 40. 27.455usb is the latam call channel, always a lot of activity there, good place to hang out if you know spanish. A lot of spanish speaking us stations are there. In the US I hear mostly mexican stations running in that range running from 430-500 in usb. Of course 27555 usb is the main DX call channel, and most of the exciting stuff I hear is from 27500-27650. Beyond that there are a couple random spanish freqs like 665usb 695lsb and 715usb. Occasionally brazil up in that range as well. Very little FM, but I met a few guys in MN that run FM on ch 25 almost every afternoon. "The Japanese Superbowl" also seems to be on ch4 AM and comes thru here sometimes.

Hi. Cold weather can deffo effect the tuning of the 6900 radio on sideband if the radio is in the cold. They tend to off freq so people will either sound mickey mouse or donald duck till the radio warms up. As far as the antenna goes it should not effect the receive but may cause a spike in the SWR when wet or frozen.

That level of noise on a 6900 is about normal and i get the same on FM and sometimes more. It should be a little lower on SSB. The signal meter is a little sensitive and you will notice that i reduce the radios RF gain (and signal meter) to enhance quite signals.
