I’ve always thought the secret to a good hockey mask design is similar to a good flag design - The design should be simple enough that even an 8-year old could draw it. I’d add Wayne Stephenson 77 Flyers Bunny Larocque 82 Leafs John Garrett 82 Whalers Mike Palmateer 78 Leafs Billy Smith 77 Islanders

Cards that would have been in consideration for my top 10 list would be: 1976-77 OPC Ken Dryden. Most of his cards he was pictured without his iconic mask so this one will always be a favourite of mine. 1975-76 OPC Rogie Vachon All-Star card. Again most cards from that era don't show the goalies in action so this one makes my list. One of the cases where you don't need artwork to make a mask iconic. 1980-81 OPC John Davidson. This card always reminded me of the famous Ken Danby painting. Davidson's card from the previous year is pretty nice too. 1979-80 OPC Wayne Thomas. Just a cool mask I remember liking as a kid and the only card I had of him wearing it. 1980-80 OPC Mike Liut. Another iconic mask without paint. His mask can been seen in a few other of his cards but I like the pose on his rookie card the best. 1983-84 OPC Pelle Lindbergh. He only had two cards before his tragic death. Both feature him wearing his mask. These are just off the top of my head so there may be more cool mask cards I am forgetting. If you want cards with goalies wearing masks I recommend checking out the 1974-75 Lipton Soup cards. It is a small set but I think every goalie in the set is pictured wearing their mask.

And oh yeh, the Leafs traded him away. IDIOTS!!
@jimtownsend78992 жыл бұрын
@@harveyabel1354 Worse yet for the Leafs: They traded away Doug Favell's former tandem, a Mr. Bernard Marcel Parent. In the early Flyer days, my favorite was Favell. I still have one of his catching gloves. Seeing him inspired me to play goalie, and speaking of masks, I've worn all the different styles from the 60's to the modern style. But anyway, after Bernie was traded away to Toronto and wound up under the tutelage of Jaques Plante, he returned to the Flyers to be the preeminent goaltender of the NHL. Funny story: Bernie attends my church frequently. He says to me one night, "I could have used you playing in front of me." (I'm 6'3", and heavier than my old playing weight of 225). I told him, "Bernie, I was a better goalie than I was defenseman, and I was not a very good goalie!" Point of correction: Grant, Favell had his mask painted bright orange when he was in Philly. That was well before the 73-74 season, obviously.
