I swear to god I shot a wedding TODAY and I was taking about how badly I needed a spot light. I get home and this is the first video that pops up on my feed. You are a lifesaver man

I'm currently using the Aputure lights, but mainly for shoots where I can drive up to the venue and have time to unpack. I do take them on plane trips (and pay for the extra bag of luggage) when the job is an interview. I'll use them with the softbox modifier. When the job is a wedding, I use the Torchbolt lights (probably been using them for over ten years now), or a Rotolight Neo. The Stella Pro CLx10 lights look awesome, particularly in terms of convenience and fast setup, and particularly for plane travel, like you say. The thing that scares me is battery life (and I also have questions about beam spread). Google tells me that, at maximum output, the CLx10 runs for 45 minutes. But if you whack a Sony battery on the old Torchbolt lights, those things go for 4 hours at max output. So, I guess it depends what sort of reception you're shooting. If you have to continuously record hours of performances or games, for example, then the CLx10 doesn't work. But if you only need to turn on lighting for speeches and first dance, then, yep, they're hard to beat. From that perspective, the Reflex could be a better general option? Since you can USB-power it as long as you like (and it also takes up less bag space). But, on the negative side, it's a harder, less flattering source that might also be less flexible in terms of modifiers like soft boxes? Maybe the conclusion is that there's no perfect light, just like there's no perfect camera. You've just got to spend a ton on a bunch of lights, and pick the right one for each job...

Some great insight into quality lighting

Thanks very much for the video! Very interested in the CLx10 and Aputure 60x lights. There's a review on News Shooter on the CLx10 lights. In fact, it's quite possible that you originally heard about the Switronix Torch Bolts from News Shooter (they did a review on these lights as well, and I'm not sure there are many reviews out there). Matt's conclusions: -- He likes: versatility and high output. -- He doesn't like: cost, fan noise, and heat. Also had issues with the fresnel attachment. Heat is an interesting one, and would be the biggest worry for me, so I'd be keen to hear your thoughts! Like, if it's midnight, and B&G have gone home, and I'm trying to pack up fast, and the venue staff are giving me dirty looks, do I need to wait another 30 minutes for the lights to cool? Plus, is there any danger of guests accidentally burning themselves on the lights? One thing I think you mentioned -- that the CLx10 doesn't have a wide beam? One application I use lights for is in the morning, at bride prep, if I hang a dress against a window and want to reduce contrast compared with the outside. If it's a small bedroom, would the CLx10 lights be impractical, and only end up lighting part of the dress? I mean, are they basically only photoshoot and speech lights, when you have a bit of space? One more random thought -- the Aputure light does seem to be "softer" at 10:33. Like, the fact that it's physically bigger means the shadows aren't as harsh as the CLx10 lights, right? So, maybe they give a nicer quality of light, even if the trade-off is they take up more space, they take more time to set up, etc, etc.

I never used such lights yet, so my question could seems noobish but, the light sprays much larger on your recommanded light than the Apurture. 1. Is it only because of the modifier ? 2. Is it a good or bad thing ? (is it pratical to have more space illumintated ? Does it ruin the mood of the event, etc...) ? PS : from where I am, there are not much toast reception, so it would rather be for the cake cutting and dance floor. Thx for you enlightment xD
