We have an antique wheelbarrow that we plant with dianthus every year and they bloom until the first frost and a few of them come back the following year. If you're container gardening, plant NASTURTIUMS. They start blooming in mid- to late-June and will bloom well into the Fall, until the first frost if you live in snow country. No deadheading or pruning needed. We have a half barrel that we plant every year and they fill it up and spill over the sides and by August we can't see the barrel at all. The blooms will turn into seeds that look like dried garbanzo beans. After the first frost when the plants die and dry, just pile them all in the pot and leave them until the next Spring. Pick out the seeds, clean out the dead plants, break up the soil adding new potting soil as needed, and then plant the seeds about 1-inch deep (you can just push them in with your thumb) during March or April, depending on where you live, and by mid- to late-June you'll have continuous blooms. Water daily, fertilize with Liquid or Shake-N-Feed Miracle-Gro every other week, and sprinkle in slug pellets every month (slugs LOVE Nasturtiums!). We do add new red nasturtium seeds every year because the red ones don't reseed as well, but the yellows and oranges reseed really well.

I have just found you and I love your recommendations. I must be doing something right as I have 7 out of the 10 in my garden already and will aim to add the other 3!!! Your voice, tone and pace of the video is soothing and easy to listen to and keep up with, thank you. I am in the UK and we are are full in to spring time now with the tulips and daffodils all finished.. I am working hard preparing the garden for a blooming summer with lots of gorgeous flowers which will remind me of the many blessings God provides for us. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

To get dianthus to rebloom, you need to dead head the spent flowers.

I was afraid you were gonna say don’t buy dianthus. I just put 35 Paint the Town Magenta in my border and wondered if I would be sorry I did. It’s supposed to be a rebloomer, so I’ve been meticulously deadheading, but we will see. 🤞

Hi @Lifeisbutifull322 I have perennials growing there (salvia, daisies and others). I'm beginning to plant my summer annuals to replace the display. That will be in the next video.

I have all of them, but I do have to disagree about the dianthus not blooming again. I cut them way back like I do all my other perennials and they keep on blooming until frost. Of course none of them are like the first time but nevertheless still beautiful. Why was that on your list if it wasn’t a long blooming perennial????
@waitingpatientlyforsummer
@waitingpatientlyforsummer Ай бұрын
Hi jgg7377 what zone are you in? I have not known Dianthus to bloom until fall. Most of the time they are a disappointment, but I guess plants act differently in different locations. They were on my "don't waste your money" list 👩‍🌾
