Its 100% alyssa's bad read that causes the goal, but Also Dunn is literally touching lawrence when the ball is played, she wouldnt have even needed to get to it but she just needed to run with and maybe try and shield lawrence off the ball. but she jogs. its just everyone falling asleep or miscommunicating execpt fox and abby who are on the right side

I am curious as to why you seem confident that Alex Morgan should be on the Olympic team? Maybe I’m seeing a different sport but I haven’t seen any reason she should start over Smith. With all the young talent we have it doesn’t make sense to me.

True - I can see an argument for Morgan to be a backup (experience, good on set pieces). But, I don't think she does enough on offense and defense to start in front of several others. But, when she has been subbed out, the team get better. A month ago in the Concacaf the team was noticeably better when Lynn Williams was subbed in for her. Likewise, when Mal came on for her the other day, and Sophia went central, the team was much better. Morgan can no longer stretch the other teams defense, she has trouble controlling/winning balls with her back to goal, and she doesn't press well. I'm not saying she is awful at these things, just not as good relative to others like Smith, Swanson, Rodman, Williams, Shaw.

It's a lot different when you go to a game. First, Alex Morgan is a lot faster than you think. When the team runs out of the locker room led by Alex there is a belief. Her game has changed from that 9 that scores goals to that 9 that holds up play and is willing to take a punch, get the call and always get up. There is something you can't get from a computer monitor. She's that player with the huge belly deep into her pregnancy at training camp, at Tottenham a team way below her just to get back in shape.. You can't get it.

"Sonnett is locked in" LOL WHY??? Every time she's on the field for USWNT she is the clear worst player. She's slow, she doesn't close down spaces defensively, she plays zero forward passes and gives you nothing offensively....how is she a lock??

I actually see Morgan on the outside looking in. She did not have a tournament at all. In both games she was not effective and truly did not create any chance. We need to start playing to everyone else's strengths instead of forcing players to play out of position to benefit Morgan. She is a one dimensional forward. Stop forcing a round peg into a square hole

Naeher, Girma, Davidson, Fox, Coffey, Horan, Shaw, Swanson, Smith and Rodman are all locks for me Questions for Dunn, Nighswonger, Dahlkemper, Sonnett, Morgan OLI: Albert and Macario (fitness, absence for 2 yrs) Not sure how Morgan is a lock? Kruger ahead of Nighswonger IMO. I’m a Gotham fan and can see Kruger is speedier and a better defender. List needs Macario ahead of Morgan for an alt 9 aside from Smith. Not that Morgan isn’t good but let’s use players that will make our next WC roster better.

Thank you for the analysis. Very helpful. I wonder about Dunn being pulled out of the game. She was caught on Canada’s first goal BUT I did not see her making too much of an effort to get her butt back into the play. She looked like she was jogging back toward the box - if she would have tried harder she might have been a third obstacle for Leon to try and shoot through in my opinion. 😠

She wasn't any worse than Nighswonger being caught way upfield and having no ability to recover to keep Japan from scoring their first goal in the semi finals. If people are going to criticize players, be an equal opportunity criticizer, and not just the players you don't like

@@ronniethomas8780 neither one was caught. they are both coached to be up field. My issue with dunn is that she doenst sprint to get back to teh pass to deanne rose, but lawrence is a foot behind her bc she is fornting the pass. @@julianpeavy303 they were both caught up field, but if you're saying that is how it's meant to be played ten we can't expect neither of them to get back into a position to really affect the play in any meaningful way. I totally disagree with you on Dunn not hustling to get back, she was at least in the vicinity of the crosser on the goal, whereas Nighswonger was nowhere to be found and put Davidson in a real bind as you stated, but the criticism was for the wrong player. Just say you don't like Crystal Dunn instead of these passive aggressive negative opinions on her performance, like lack of hustle and other players seemingly not wanting to pass her the ball...it's absurd and it's as if you didn't watch the match

@@ronniethomas8780 if u see a snapshot of where they are when the ball is played, jenna is following mal on the attack when the us loses the ball, while canada are bombing it forward after a goalkick. I dont think either fullback are at fault but youre not fr if you think dunn hustled there. and honestly she shouldant have had to. dunn was touching lawrence bc she was fronting the pass. Tierna needed to cover. the ball was overhit, so alyssa needed to handle it. alyssa comes out SO late. lawrence is in her own half when the ball is hit, she doesnt catch up to it until its on the edge of the box. if sheridan had to deal with that same ball she would have cleared it easily

Naeher came out too slow and it was a bit far. Davidson was a 1/2 step behind the Canadian player and it was coming from the wing. I don't know that Canada scores if Naeher does not come out. Similar choice she made against Canada in the Gold cup where she got called for a penalty.

Hello Claire. Another good assessment. I also look forward to seeing what Emma Hayes can do this year, though I reckon if US gives her chance to promote football to girls and boys from all backgrounds, you could have more chance of winning competitions in future. I would say France are likely to win the Olympics, Spain have the best team and Germany and Australia are more likely to win than US. I do now think US has a chance, which I would not have said a couple of months ago.

I don't understand how anyone could watch these games and still not get that Horan needs to be in the double pivot in order for us to possess the ball. Coffey and Horan are the only players we have who can actually turn with the ball under pressure and pass into the attack. Albert, Sonnet, and Sullivan before them just cannot do the job and always backpass when under pressure which triggers an opposition press, then a launch from the goalkeeper or centerback under duress and a loss of possession. Can we just try to be a good, dominant team that plays with the ball?
