I traded in my 2020 GX for the 2022 to get apple car play and the upgraded infotainment. Also, Mark Levinson sound was only available on the Luxury trim, but now an option on the premium trim. This vehicle is just perfect. Yes, mileage could be better, but that’s the trade off. I get 19.8 mpg overall with mostly highway miles. The barn door is cool. Not an issue. Third row is for kids in every car. Touch pad is fine too. It’s not over sensitive, imo. This thing is designed to run for decades without major repairs. That’s a BIG deal. The base off-road package is great for most uses.

@@jaypikachu6660 Better off with the older 4.6 ported injected MPI V8 everyday and twice on Sundays. I prefer the older design with the smaller grill. Since these are very reliable with the bullet proof 4.6 MPI V8 I would rather spend money on the last year of the older design. That is a 2013. Something with lower miles. As these are good for well over 200K miles. The new MSRP's are too high. I've seen some lower mileage 2012/2013's Around 70K miles for under 30K. I'd go that direction then paying full MSRP price of a new one. Generally by new vehicles but getting an older GX with low mileage is a safe bet. The Japan made truck has legendary reliability.

Just bought my 2023 GX Luxury model and I LOVE it! I am coming off of a Toyota old school SUV and this is a huge step up in luxury and handling! The V8 is super smooth and this promises to be the last year of the old reliable V8. Gas mileage is the same as my old V6 Toyota. I could have waited for the 2024 GX, but this will have a different engine and transmission- so will it be as smooth? No one knows for sure. The new GX will probably be more expensive, have some levels of tweets to be fixed in succeeding years, and it will be back-ordered for USA delivery for about 6 months. I took the plunge to buy the 2023 GX Luxury and I have zero regrets and I will not envy the new 2024 GX either. I have reached a stage in life where I do not care about paying for premium gas and I want to ride in comfort in my 'forever' Lexus GX!

Love my 2023 GX and the only major issue is the Mark Levinson audio system, all of friends in which are ten of them have encounter the same issue, if your playing your music on a volume pass 51 on the radio for like after 20min the Audio will shut off. The only way to bring it back is to turn the vehicle completely off and turn it back on, resetting the radio won’t have a fix. I, have taken the GX to 3 different dealership and same issue as well of my friends. Twice I, received a premium loaner and guess what no issue on the loaner!!!!!!

I live in that area.. rural (7 acres) but 30 mins from DC and bmore. Mine is a 2021, but damn this is usually the most beautiful car on the road, and usually always the most capable car on the road... stock. You can upgrade if you want serious off-road stuff. But seriously that just means removing running boards and aftermarket front bumper then it can go almost anywhere.. stock. But as is, even premium it is a dream that pushes through 4 ft of snow but floats like a cadillac on the road. Only bad thing is gas mileage, but honestly if you can afford it, who cares... shits sweet

This thing is a beauty. MPG is low, but I like to think we even out as a family with the Model Y my wife drives. 3rd row is electric on mine and it works well for kids. It's a really good feeling when you know that you can go cross country on your car at a moment's notice and not worry if it will make it there (as long as you have enough money for gas). To each it's own, I really like my GX.

It's easy to use the trackpad with your thumb while driving. You can also use the Menu button to quickly get to the main screen without having to touch the display. As far as the third row, you want to access it from the other side instead of the driver's side. The seat slides further, allowing you to climb to the back with more room. If you opt for the Premium Plus or Luxury package, the power folding third row makes it easier to use the seats when needed. We have the right seat in the third row up and the left one down so we can have more storage and an extra seat available for our child.

I have a 2017. Gas mileage is 15 city 20 highway at around 75. Premium required. Which going in you know this. 6 years of ownership and 75k miles, changed brakes and rotors around 40k miles and OEM Bridgestone to Michelin. Otherwise bulletproof. Few things I’d like changed would be a bigger tank. Range is around 300 miles. 3 blinks on turn signal when you tap it. Otherwise been very satisfied.

I've had my 2013 for about a year, and absolutely love it. The earlier iterations do have slightly better approach and departure angles. At 160k miles, mine drives like a dream. I do currently have it torn apart for some repairs and maintenance (leaking radiator (very common), and chose to replace the water pump, belt tensioner, and idler pully while I'm in it). If looking at an earlier 460, be sure to check for the intake valley coolant leak, cam tower oil leak, and timing cover oil leak. Mine looks to have recently developed the timing leak, but I can likely monitor it for years before it becomes an issue. When the time comes, it's going to be a costly repair (maybe a bit more than I'm comfortable DIY'ing). My only real complaint is the lack of a transmission dipstick. Some dealers will try to claim the ATF is lifetime, even though the manual gives a service interval for it. Changing it (properly) is a huge pain, and could have been simplified with a damned dipstick.

Great video as always. I am a GX 460 owner and I don't think the mpg is that bad at all. My brother has a Ford Explorer that gets pretty much the same mpg and it is trash compared to my GX. Also, I did a DIY third row seat removal and used a kit from GOOSE that replaced the floor where the seats were. I insulated it as well and it works great. I am so glad I did it because it is just the wife and I now that the kiddos have moved out, and the GX 460 is the perfect road trip vehicle.

However, one test ride made me a convert to the old reliable GX and every KZfaq video praises the old GX V8 reliability, while the new GX model will be unproved, have a few bugs and will be fully ready in 2 or 3 years of feedback and refinements. Plus, the wait for the new 2024 GX will be 6 months down the road. Buy now, no regrets.

The side folding rear door on this and what is sold as Land Cruiser here in Europe, is something i don't understand that they keep: The reason for side folding backdoors were the mounted spare wheels on the door. And Toyota/Lexus has moved the spare wheel under the rear end of the truck and there's no factory way of mounting it to the backdoor. So why not make it swing up then? And as i encountered such a siefolding door has another disadvantage: imagine two people carrying something large and trying to put it into the storage area of the car/truck. With normal up swinging doors you can be on each side while lifting it in. With a sidefolding door that doesn't open more than 90° you can't. (On the positive: a fork lift can drive closer than with an up folding dor.)

It's a bit silly to complain about a 21 degree departure angle and a side opening trunk for parallel parking situations; it's kind of talking out of both sides of your mouth. The implementation prioritizes BOTH on-road and off-road benefits while it's critiqued for not being fully committed in both directions. A 21 degree departure angle is more than sufficient for non-extreme offroading while the lower front valance that reduces that angle helps with aero/MPG on the highway. The side opening trunk is an off-road feature that gives access to the roof while standing on the rear bumper; you don't get that with a top opening hatch and otherwise need to install a ladder for the same access. Also as already indicated, the rear glass opens so the side opening trunk isn't that big of an issue for parallel parking anyway.

Have 2022 Pearl white with the Mark Levinson since April 2022 with 26,000+ and it is the family vehicle now but, primarily the wife's 2001 4 Runner 246,000 4WD replacement. That 4 Runner is now with our 17 year old son. I was not crazy about the GX during the test drive. I hated the "ECO mapped" A/T that short shifts until you get into the throttle. But, have grown to truly enjoy the vehicle and as with the 4 Runner, simply feel at ease with full fait that it will "just work" for many years to come. Personally, I have a 2001 Boxster, 2006 Ram Cummins that I use. I love both and both are reliable. But, both require parts replacements at times due to age/wear of non-"wear" items or items that should last a long time. Porsche's water pump is supposed to be replaced every 30,000 miles because of a plastic impeller for example. The GX is really and yes a second really good at everything it does. It is now the best at anything to my way of thinking except being "bullet proof". It tows well, it off roads well, it has good space, it has good power, and the list goes on. In every segment, I would have preferred a used Range Rover (Full size, not a silly Range Rover offspring) but, the Land Rover will never be "bullet proof".

The only reason why I'd buy this over any other SUV is because of the 4*4 system and RELIABILITY thats it. Other SUVs are better in every way, we talking about safety, performance dynamics, efficiency, power, speed, technology,Multiple engines, flat cornering ability etc....Buut they will all stay behind in terms of reliability as they age. Also if you're on budget these are easy to get plus they still run like champs with close to 200k miles. Also the kind of people that have lots of money and switch cars a lot, this is less likely to be on the menu. Wonderful car alongside the LX570. These things will always be there for you, Just regular maintenance thats it. I know its toyota/lexus but buying a used one, always get it checked because people abuse cars.

Not really! The Toyota LANDCRUISER (V8 models sold in the US) are somewhat “collectibles” because of how *FEW* of them were sold in the US. The GX, OTOH, sold in *HUGE* numbers (one of the most popular Lexus models), so there is not going to be any dearth of them in the used car market 🙄 …at least not for the next 10 years or so! Also, the new 2024 GX is still BODY-ON-FRAME. Of course, it does not have the old-school V8.

yes you can adjust the sensitivity, but once you've got the touchscreen in 2022+ the touchpad becomes an ornament. the screen is well within reach and the touchpad just makes for slower interaction. he's kind of critiquing the touchpad because it exists, not realizing that Lexus really only just left it there to save money on redesigning the center console for 2 final model years ('22-23); next to no one with a late (final) model GX460 is using that touchpad over the touchscreen.

I do wish they would have gone more down the design path of the LC Prado Kakadu to get better off-roading angles from the factory, but let's be honest: no new Lexus buyer is going off road in these - that's for the second or third owner to do. I also much prefer the removable third row seats of the GX 470 as while they are equally useless, you can remove them completely and get a lower loading floor in return.

This and the 4 runner are the last real Toyota's. And they are both going away. Seriously thinking of picking up a GX 460 but in my heart I really want the overseas Prado version with the D4D diesel. Either way, I just can't get myself to take that much money out of my retirement. If I could get the diesel without that ugly grill I"d probably spend stupid money for it. But even the Prado's front end took a dump for the worst. Seriously considering just buying a 1997 JDM Prado import. Japan has many low mileage examples in great shape. Because the bottom line is that Toyota's best land cruisers are NOT made here.

I have a 2018 GX 460 that i bought brand new. The new infotainment screen/climate controls is what I wanted on my 2018 model. I think it's sad that Lexus lags behind in adding features to this model line. I get the fact it was selling well for them and so they don't feel the need to update it. I don't think I will buy another because I really wanted a pickup truck, but my timing was bad for options back in 2018. Also, I don't enjoy going to the gas station to fill up because you need to use 93 octane gas. I wish Toyota/Lexus would make a pickup for the Lexus line based on their Hilux line. I would be more incline to buy it than a GX 460 the next time I'm in the market for a new vehicle. Hopefully that won't be until at least 2028 model year or later.

As this review is posted on 5/23/2023, several days ago, Lexus just put out two tease pictures for the upcoming release of the fully redesigned 2024 GX550. The V8 will disappear, and in its place, a twin-turbo V6 with updated tech, safety and a wider and longer (and allegedly) more rugged appearing "off-road" chassis on top of their newer more rigid frame. This begs the question, if you need a new car now/soon, do you buy the current GX460 with its proven dependability refined over 14 years of updates to the same basic platform (released in 2009/model year 2010), or wait for the 2024/25 GX550 realizing that the first few years of a complete redesign inherently have bugs to work out. As a Tahara-built vehicle though, this should put the 2024 slightly ahead of most new model year vehicles built elsewhere. Lastly, will GX460s still hold their value once the GX550s are released? These are questions I am wrestling with myself.

GX 460s will always have strong resale. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. The new models will be in very high demand for the first few years. Dealers will have long waiting lists. If you’re considering a new model contract your dealer now to get on the list. Sewell Lexus in Dallas now has a close to 3 year waiting list for a new LX. Expect similar wait times if you wait a while to request one.

Hello- yes I had the same concerns too! I wanted a very reliable old tech V8 SUV and the GX fits that criteria. The new GX will be a fine vehicle, but it will not have a V8, it will need a few years to tweak out design bugs and it will have a long wait list too. I went with my beautiful 2023 V8 and it rides beautifully. No regrets and I will not be jealous of the new 2024 GX either. My 2023 GX barely fits in my garage, so a bigger vehicle is not desired by me!

With the new2024 gx460 you will have the v6 turbo. Turbo engines do not last as long and burn out consistently. So reliability is a big question with the 2024. I have gone to2023 and no regrets. New Lexus and Toyota’s have become junk cards and will not go anywhere the old models. I pick reliability over technology. Oldcrefrigators went 20 years new ones 5 to 7 . No brainer dude
