The low e-string seems to disappear in the soap demos. I'm thinking the pickup must not be wide enough for the string spacing and the string is not aligned with the magnetic field. It's too bad because they look and sound cool otherwise!

That Low Rider is killer! As is the player playing it!! I love the fact that you go through all the different playing styles, so everyone can actually hear what the gear you're playing sounds like in different scenarios!! The main question i have about the Low Rider is: How's the balance? Is there any significant neck dive? Keep killing it!! 🤘🤘

I’d be buyin the saint soap. Definitely putting flats on it. Would be super curious to hear this bad compared with the short scale version. Long scale (LS) rounds vs. LS flat vs short scale (SS) rounds vs. SS flats

I just can’t understand why they don’t make the pickups a bit wider, it’s so simple! I can’t bear string volume imbalance! I also get hives when a string doesn’t pass squarely over a pickup pole!

@@Bassman1999 I think it is because they are being true to the vintage specs but the Teisco basses they were in back then had narrower string spacing. It is just poor judgment on the pickup makers part

The green speaks to me. All really nice though. Personally wish they were a few hundred dollars less but dont we all wish everything was cheaper! Thanks for sharing these with us and great job on the video. Edit: I was looking at prices for The Low Rider and The Grail bass at over $1,050 usd each. The ones shown in this video are less than half that price putting these along with the Squier CV series liked you stated. A great value at that point and now I'm REALLY interested. Shipping across the pond is my only gripe.

I just got my Saint Soap today. No issues with the frets on my greenie. I did have to do a setup, but it was decent out of the box. I'm normally a P player, but this one just might be my new favorite. (Have to let the Honeymoon phase run it's course.) To me it sounds like a cross between a P and a Thunderbird. A darker sounding P might be a good description.

I'd love to hear them all with some fuzz on them too. Nice review though. I think I'd agree about the J pickup on the Saint. I'm not usually a fan of a bridge pickup on it's own, but that sounds like it imght be useable! I just wish Ashdown would match their product annoucements with the availability of the product. Images of the roasted Capri have been around since January on their Facebook. It's October and they're still only at pre-orders. There isn't any point trying to create a buzz around their products if people can't actually get their hands on them.

For the record, the Ashdown Capri, while having a great neck, good soldering wrt pots & jack, nice fretwork etc has one HUGE fundamental flaw....the pickup. The E string is noticeably quieter than the ADG strings. Im so pissed of with it that I have ordered a 12k toaster alnico rail pickup from Dave Konig at Retrovibe Basses (nice guy, I bought his Stinger pre-amp, which is an homage to the pre-Ernie Ball Musicman pre-amp found in the original Leo Fender designed 'Stingray'). The fact that Ashdown think this is OK to release to the world speaks volumes (if only the E string spoke volumes). I love the shape of the Capri, the neck is great, fretwork all good....but that pickup sucks-ass. As an addendum, there is plenty of room in the cavity routing at the back for a little pre-amp and 9v battery too ;-) Also goes to show that some 'influencers' are nothing but corporate whores. Lastly, the Capri suffers from near suicidal neck-dive, don't even think of slinging it round your neck on a slippy nylon/polyester strap. I have mine on a nice fat suede-sheepskin backed 'Perri’s Leathers Ltd.' 'fat' bass strap...ergo, it stays put.

I liked the soap pickup basses best for tone. The lowrider is not for me with its looks, neck dive and too bassy boominess. I pre-ordered the Saint P-J in onyx green because I want that versatility and it didn't disappoint me in this sound demo at all. Apparently Ashdown take delivery of these roasted affordable basses in November. Thanks for demo. I hope mine is good when it arrives but I'm capable of set up and ironing out any minor bugs. Glad I ordered mine based on this review, Jonny.

Thank you Johnny, for this video! I am a huge fan of your channel. Love the basses, the neck and green color look fantastic. But, I feel like almost every bass that is reviewed sounds great and punchy. This is probably because of the fresh strings. Alright. after finishing the video. I still want to get my hands on a lowrider. I was in musicstore cologne last saturday and tried out some basses. I like the shape of the T-Bird, but I absolutely hate glossy necks. It just doesn't feel right for me. And I love roasted maple necks with satin finish. Oooh yeah. So this might be the one for me. On the other hand, I also tested an Ibanez SR300 something which is only slightly more expensive and stuck in my head since.
