I think Urban Decay discontinuing the original naked palette was a mistake. They would still be making a lot of sales on it.

I think discontinuing any of the line causes problems down the line because part of collections is being able to collect them. And as we’re recovering from the pandemic and trying new hobbies nothing’s standing out.

Urban Decay also has been discontinuing/reformulating a lot of their other popular products (off the top of my head, Naked foundation and concealer if I remember correctly?)

I absolutely love all of Ariana Grande's albums (though I don't really follow her as a person/as a stan) and I had a feeling r.e.m. was going to fail from the beginning because of the lack of excitement and care she put into it. The product demos she look confused and so like... blah, she treated it with less care than her perfumes, even. With Rare I feel like the aesthetic is SO Selena and she put a lot of thought into it and constantly lives/promotes it. I feel like (as a fellow person with skin related issues) she made a brand with a clear mission for sensitive skin safe formulas. r.e.m. doesn't have a clear marketing direction or mission that i've seen.

Literally you know she doesn’t care when the lipgloss tube is a plain plastic squeeze tube for over $15, my hair shop nicka k lip gloss works so much better for literally $2 and it’s double the size and has actual branding

You can tell this was done as afterthought. Now that she has the licensing back maybe she’ll rebrand and do better. I don’t like her personally but the perfumes smell good.

I think because she didn't hold majority stake in the licensing, packaging, distribution, etc it was a marketing tactic to try to use her name to sell the most amount of volume without making it good quality. It's similar to Jaclyn Cosmetics and Jaclyn Hill white washing the fact they were a subsidiary of the Forma Brand to make it appear that they were something bigger than they were...just a bunch of false advertising. At least with the buyout of R.E.M. Beauty from the Bankruptcy proceedings it gives Ariana the ability to follow the business model of Lady Gaga/Haus Labs with full creative control with limited hindrances of a parent company. Basically if you are aware of what Bobbi Brown/Jones Road the cliff notes of that story are Bobbi Brown created Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, made it successful, sold the company to Estee Lauder, she stepped down to work outside of the cosmetic world and for the Obama Administration and finally returned to the cosmetic world around the pandemic with master classes and Jones Road Beauty.

what put the last nail in the coffin for urban decay for me was that they got rid of their weird lipstick colors. urban decay is the reason i started wearing blue lipstick and then they gutted it one day when they redesigned the tubes. (I do adore my ultraviolet palette and now i really need to buy a single pan of lucid before urban decay goes belly up). rest in peace shade heroine (and vanity kills and roach and junkie etc). i will miss you

@@bruisedviolets I tried buying gash multiple times, but every time they had it either I was too little, not enough money to buy it, or just sold out, and now it's completely discontinued which is a shame because I feel like they could reformulate it to not have talc and be creamier without it actually being a cream and now that's not happening. I really don't know what Urban Decay is thinking.

Kind of on/off topic, but I am surprised colourpop is still doing well! It felt like they were really in trouble for a minute there a few years ago when it felt like they were launching a new collection every other week. I'm glad they're doing well and figured it out because I really like their skin and face products!

The last time urban decay was ACTUALLY urban decay (like exciting, different, out of the box, basically an alt makeup brand) was back in 2014-2016. I don’t know why they want to be just another basic makeup company it’s so boring and lack luster and not what put them on the map. It’s just sad

Honestly, 2014-2016 seems late. Maybe it’s just because I’m old enough to remember what the brand was as like in its early days, but to me they lost their edge when they made the Naked line their main thing. Don’t get me wrong, some of those products were great. I owned and loved the Naked 3 palette and their Naked foundation line was pretty good! But having neutrals be such a big part of their brand was a huge departure from their early grunge and boldly colorful aesthetic. The Naked era was all about Urban Decay chasing a main stream audience. They kept the cheeky names, but the identity changed.

I remember they relaunched their lipsticks and I was able to get a green and white one, I was a senior in hs when that happened so that’s why I put those years. I couldn’t find a white or green lipstick anywhere else and I thought it was the COOLEST thing ever

I really feel like Glamglow missed a major opportunity. Everyone was doing self care when we couldn't go out. I wanted them to get better so bad. I'd still give them a shot again if they improved the ingredients.

Urban Decay was my bougie brand as a teen and it got me experimenting with colours. I loved their coloured liquid liner, I had one that was an antique goldy-brown with subtle shimmer. Uzi eyeshadow was amazing too ( grey with holographic shimmer). The Moondust palette is lovely too!

There is something strange happening with Natasha Denona. The brand has been going on sale a lot at Sephora. Half of the brand is at least 50 % off right now at Sephora Canada. I bought the Retro glam palette yesterday at a 50% off discount. That palette is 4 months old!

For REM I loveee her liquid eyeshadow, but there are many doupes it’s not really worth the price tag to keep rebuying the REM. Even the Ulta brand liquid eyeshadow is extremely similar.

I think with rem it’s just packaged and marketed for young fans, but also it just doesn’t come off to me as something Ariana cares about. You can tell when it’s a money grab and when they aren’t genuinely passionate about the brand/what they are selling. Selena Gomez and Rihanna clearly show they care about their brands and what they sell in their own unique ways. Ariana has always seemed to me like she was forced into it which is why I never bothered to try anything, though I’ve heard good things about her liners!

I work at Ulta, we had a day where we had to promote the new urban decay eyeshadow palettes and not a single customer was really interested. I don’t think we sold a single one, nor do I think we were even sent a lot of units for their new palettes. The marketing for it was so tacky too…😅

A brand that’s either dying or dead, in my opinion, is Cover FX. Was really popular a few years ago with the drops and blushes then just dropped off the scene. Went on sale at Ulta then a few months later gone and never heard about them again.

I feel like Ariana Grande sells to younger people. My 15 yo sister loves her and would be happy with the makeup. But it is pretty suprising, that her makeup is kind of a flop and seems cheap, when she has built this whole fragrance empire that many people love.

I think that many brands for the sake of being trendy forget that the brand itself can have an aesthetic! Like where is my cottage core blush or my grunge lipstick? I think if they would stick to one aesthetic that does not only feature in one collection, they would have much better payoff. I think Ariana’s 60s inspired make up was interesting but the problem for me was that she focused on only one aspect of the period😅Also, can we have times back when celebrities produced perfumes 🙈 because I would love a Taylor Swift scent revival

It's a shame Urban Decay haven't gorwn with their demographic, my first high end palette was their 'Alice through the looking glass' one for the movie coming out and it lasted me from 13/14-16/17 when I started getting J Star (looking back I'm embarrassed) I do have one of their foundations and it's one of the only ones that works for my dry skin

i’m a huge ari stan & the space thing is super on theme but i think it limited her in a big way. i think it was for stans & not correctly branded to the general public. i don’t wear makeup but i was ready to drop a bag on r.e.m. sadly nothing caught my attention & i agree they do look cheap. it could honestly use a whole rebrand which saddens me to say cuz ari can do no wrong in my eyes. the concealers seemed like it was going to be the take off of the brand but all the eye makeup being such a disappointment really overtook that.

Urban Decay. It exited the market (standalone stores as well as Sephora) in Singapore too. Really shocking considering what a big brand it is.

I’m sad to see UD not doing well-they used to be such a cool exciting brand and then they became basic. Other brands came in and did what they used to do-but better. The other issue is UD is not making products we want-I don’t know who is on their creative team, but they should consider changing it up and promoting things on instagram and TikTok. Stop making naked palettes, make more mattes and less shimmers, and try new color combinations. Make weird lipstick colors again. People still want these things. And if they could change the primer so it’s a squeeze tube and return to their 2010 formula-I would repurchase primer potion. The wand is unnecessary.

@@daqueenbobo because their stocks are dropping on a regular basis and the projections from quarter to quarter aren't looking promising either. Lancome started out in all beauty products but their sales are stronger in perfumes and skincare. There's very little evolution in their cosmetic lines and their market is for the middle aged woman from 40-60. In that range they are competing with La Mer, Shiseido, YSL, Dior, Valentino, Gucci, Chantecaille, etc. There are so many brands before the pandemic to the point of over saturation and now between shaky economies, issues procuring materials and warfare/potential warfare in parts of the world that the larger fashion houses are scaling back.

@@daqueenbobo One Size paid out licensing fees to do a collab with Disney and granted Disney was hemorrhaging money at the very beginning and throughout the pandemic which is very expensive normally. Disney was hurting so much so that they immediately closed stores and pulled all brick and mortar locations that weren't on Disney or theme park property so the may have lowered the fees but it would still be a substantial amount. Of the brands listed above, a good chunk haven't had a stand out product in the past three years that have captivated the masses. ABH has made the news in some distasteful opinions about the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

I would love to see Urban Decay come out with some new base products! I used to love the all nighter & original naked foundation & I was always really intreeged by their bronzers, blush & highlights too! I feel like if they caught up with the times & brought out some good cream cheek products that could really help them out. I think they do rely a lot on their best sellers like all nighter setting spray & they should capitalise on that, maybe an all nighter cheek collection since cream cheeks are notorious for fading fast?

i think because everyone is an influencer and coming out with their shitty products, having a name attached to a brand doesn't mean as much as when they did, kylie cosmetics,jeffree star, jackyln hill, etc. era, back then they were the face of the brand snd the quality or lack there of almost did not matter. Because of how over saturated the makeup market is now, name's without the quality to back them up like REM beauty. Often timed the people who are the owners, face/ambassador can actually be detrimental.

I wanted to give a different perspective regarding Urban Decay, I do believe they are falling behind and not as trendy as they once were. I live in the US but im from Mexico and I’m involved in both the American and Mexican beauty communities, and I can see how in Mexico and Latinamerica UD is still huge and people still pay full price for products and influencers are being sponsored and pushing UD while in the US it is not popular at all, it is dead. I think while they still have a strong presence in some countries, they will be ok.

I love that you aren't wearing foundation because in January I decided to stop wearing foundation too but continue with the rest of my normal makeup (concealer, blush, bronzer etc) and it looks the same just less heavy! Retinol really is that bad bitch.

rem beauty is very on brand i my opinion. She has a few spacey themed mvs and songs (NASA, One Last Time, Break Free, Focus, God is a Woman,Moonlight, 7 rings). A lot of her songs reference the moon and stuff as well. I love all the makeup i bought from it so far, and i dont really think it's cheap. The eyeshadow is very smooth and blends well, i LOVE the liquid eyeshadow and never have used it before, and the lip oil feels very refreshing. I also love the lip gloss. To be fair, I haven't tried everything though. I like the aeshetic of the makeup and it's pretty simplistic too. And quite compact, which I enjoy, similar to Selena's.

It makes me kind of sad to think of urban decay getting discontinued, because that was what got me excited about make up in the first place and my first ever high end products were all ud, but they really messed up somewhere along the way, sadly. hopefully they can change their decline, but i better stock up on some stuff just in case though 😭

jaffar morningstar's cosmetics had huge store displays here in Finland, he even had a video of full face Finnish cosmetics (Lumene) to promote entering the market. however, it barely lasted 3 years and the all of his stuff was removed pre-pandemic. Urban Decay lasted much longer, and they are still available in local online stores, but with very limited selection (like, one eyeshadow palette out of whole collection at most) & they are removed from major offline stores. so I think they are next to head out. NYX is in kinda gray zone imho, I don't find their new "fat oils" all that amusing despite the extensive marketing. also nobody've cared for Lime Crime since forever, I wonder why they still exist. &&& dunno really what's happening to ABH at this point.

My favorite are the lip balm and the lip oil. Its unique applicator feels really really nice. I do honestly prefer Haus Labs bc the lip oils last longer. But ive honestly never had a better lip balm. The eye shadows are cute but its difficult to have more than one bc the shades are so similar to each other. Only a few shades are the "standouts" for each pallete but there isnt a unique pallete. Those standouts are so stellar tho! So many hit and misses bc of the decisions made.

6:11 I don’t agree with this. I love make up, I know about a lot of brands, I have tried multiple products and I do follow some of the bigger names in the community, and I had no idea about the entire scoop of the Jeffrey situation. One can be interested in the makeup and not know what is happening behind it. Or even be interested in a KZfaqr and not know the drama behind everything.

Urban Decay just blew it with the over use of Naked Like Nars & Orgasm. Urban came out with a Born to run pallet or something like that. It was absolutely brilliant. Def not enough hype for i. Then they returned to the boring Naked themes again

love her music but ariana has never had an iconic makeup moment and i don’t associate her with the beauty industry at all. those eye stickers from the break free video are all i can think of. to me she’s always had bad skin and brows & gets clowned for over tanning etc etc. now if she created a brand of HAIR extensions, that would make sense with what she’s known for!

it's a shame that Urban Decay didn't capitalize on their fame as online beauty communities were starting to grow and soon booming. I've been on youtube for a long time and fell in and out of makeup content since ~2010, I can't say exactly when UD started being mentioned but it was *Early* . I still wonder if the primer potion is magic because they sure convinced me it was back then, and if I hadn't been a child-early teen with little money I would probably have bought into them hard. I think they're being led by people who still think online fame is just a free but small promotion and nothing to invest in. Meanwhile I don't remember the last time I was in a makeup store buying things physically, and with how makeup has been oversold so much in the last 8 years there's just 0 incentive to go seek out products that have no reputation or presence other than "they used to be good"

REM was licensed to Forma, the same people who own Morphe. Forma used crappy cheap ingredients for REM beauty. People don’t like the quality of REM I’m hoping once they’ve got full ownership of REM from Forma, they will do a relaunch like Haus Labs. I think the case goes before a judge next week. 21st March?

I work in a beauty store in Sweden and before christmas we got the information that Glam Glow would stop being sold here in Sweden. So we put all our Glam Glow products on the Christmas sale… Can’t remember if they said that it would stop being sold in Europe or just sweden. When it comes to urban decay we will only have the essentials from UB in store. The setting spray is still very popular here in Sweden and some people love their eyeshadow primer.

i... just do not agree with the rem beauty one tbh. i already have a couple products that i have repurchased at least three times? base, cheek, lip AND eye products, especially their blushes, primers and glosses. and i went to sephora recently and, living in paris, wanted to checked their recently opened counter and almost everything??? was sold out so... people are clearly interested. i think the aesthetic of the brand in real life definitely just fits hers, feels cohesive, actually expensive and just overall is pretty and glamorous. idk i just do not get the people in videos saying it's underwhelming

I really like a lot of the newer products from Revlon, but I’m concerned about their viability as a company. I know they have done some sort of bankruptcy restructuring, but I don’t have a lot of details. I will be very disappointed if they go under because I’m a big fan of some of their lipsticks and foundation.

I’m very curious about the constant sales over at PMG (not complaining but I feel like there is a massive sale every quarter!!) and the fact that their collections/collabs are now at discount stores in the US…the products continue to be good quality but it just doesn’t seem normal to have so many sales with such big discounts…it makes me wonder if they’re trying to beef up revenue to attract a buyer🤔

I would say Stila and Buxom are in trouble, I don't ever hear about them anymore. Also, I know Smashbox bought some Becca products but I honestly feel like no one buys smashbox anymore either? Not a beauty brand, but I do think Mario Badescu could also be in trouble since being scrutinized during rise of Skin Care TikTok in 2020.

I love Ariana Grande, but REM always felt like it wasn't really her. I'm hoping that once they get rid of Forma, she'll rebrand and actually be passionate about it and possibly give us the ethereal vibes we've all been waiting for. But I'm prolly just being optimistic

I would rather rock my own skin because it looks great. I do suffer with hyperpigmentation, and I just use a color corrector and spot conceal. I am medium tan skintone.

Urban decay has been so lack luster for years. I used to love them for being edgy and having pigmented products with punches of colors. The last thing I bought from them was that vegan wild greens palette and that was THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT!!! It was so bad. Aside from their eye primers I don’t buy anything from them.

You bought one of the worst Urban Decay Pallettes. All the Naked, cherries, heat, even the stand alone colors are MIND BLOWING. The Gwen Stephani Pallette IS THE BEST PALLETTE I HAVE EVER PURCHASED. They go on like a loose mica almost. It's insane.
