They were actually looking for a nuclear submarine and its nuclear torpedoes that the US government had lost and didn't want the Russians to find out about. not saying that it isn't inportant, but why wouldn't it be easier. slave ships syopped coming to america in the 1850's. and they were made of organic materials, and they were much smaller. why wouldn't it be harder to find older, smaller, more degradable materials?

The Titanic was pursued as soon as the tech was available. There were (monetary) valuable objects on the Titanic. Slave ships did not afford the same luxuries, and most of those lost were seen as subhuman. So..... I don't think there is a valid comparison between the two.
