Hi, just stumbled across your channel. Love the video. Your shelf of games looks quite similar to my collection! What's your take on fit to print? I own the other three games (cascadia, verdant, calico) but I also own art society and world wonders which are both tile placement games so I'm unsure if I need fit to print!

Hi, I really taught that for Clue yall would recommend Deception, murder in Hong Kong, and for Monopoly maybe Monopoly deal, a faster funner version. For Risk I taught maybe Memoir 44. But thanks for the suggestion seemed like a fun topic

Cool list. TI seems a big step up from Risk! I'd try Small World or (Vinci) for a tighter faster empire building game.

Honestly, I don't know that it is. Obviously there's more rules in TI, but as a person that made that jump, TI gives me that experience of a game I'm going to play all day that I think is missing from a game like Small World. I like Small World, but it doesn't feel as grandiose as these war games.

@@CrunchyCozyGames as far as complexity i'd say Small world is a LITLE more complicated then risk TI is WAY more complicated

What a brilliant video! This is the first time I've come across your channel, and if all the content's as good as this, you're going to end up stuck with me as a subscriber (you've been given fair warning!). Some of the classic games on your list, I still really enjoy. Sorry! for example, I'll play that game every night of the week, and twice on a Sunday if anyone else wants to join me, love that game. Mind you, your replacement for it, Camel Up, is an absolutely fun and fantastic game too; maybe we'll drop one of the playthroughs of Sorry! on Sundays, and have a go at Camel Up instead? Cluedo (where I am) is the hill I die on! This is purely becasue of the nostalgia, it was the first "real" game I ever owned when I got it for Christmas back in the day. I admit it has it weaknesses, but I still have it on a pedestal from which it can't be shaken. I haul it out if at all possible, and my gaming buddies will even indulge me sometimes. The Game of Life you upgraded to Heat, now that's a jump! You went from possibly the second worst game of all time - Mastermind is the absolute pits of all games - to a modern classic. Me, I'd happily accept an evening of Tic-Tac-Toe before playing The Game of Life. For a long duration game you had Risk as the classic, upgrading to Twilight Imperium. I can see where you're coming from here, TI is an excellent game, even if I've only ever played it once, but it's certainly much more expensive than Risk. But actually, if I want a long duration game, I go back to a classic. It has treachery... backbiting... conquest... and can end up in fisticuffs if played with the wrong crowd, but dang it's fun, and it is, of course, Diplomacy! The only downside - apart from the time spent in hospital after the game ends - is player elimination, especially Austria. There's no doubt about it, if you draw Austria, it's not unlikely you'll spend most of the evening playing Patience/Solitaire. But apart from that, Diplomacy has it all, and when played with experienced players, a good game of it can almost be a form of art.

Thanks for watching and commenting. The real rule of game night is that everyone should be having fun. Whether that's playing Sorry! or TI, it doesn't matter. This video was really just out of fun and a click-bait title. What we love best about board games is that there's something for everyone. I have never actually played Diplomacy, but I'd love to! Hope you do subscribe, we're really enjoying making content.

I agree with these to a point. One we start monopoly with 10 times the money, pass out all properties randomly… game is over in less than an hour… we learned this from Wii Monopoly… it eliminates the 2-3 hours of randomness with the dice rolling to get the properties randomly… pass them out randomly and that thane 30 seconds…. This makes the game amazing. My young kids taught me this when Wii Monopoly came out…. Next, Risk is amazing! Twilight Imperium is amazing… but if you have a version that has amazing pieces like the Lord of the Rings Risk it is still a great game… will never stop playing Risk for Twilight Imperium…. I have 6 kids two son in laws ranging from 30 down to 17…. They all grab the Risk game over Twilight Imperium. But it is the new version that has tasks for you to complete!!!

That definitely sounds like a better way to play Monopoly. I still like Risk, to a point. It's definitely an easier teach to new players. But for me personally, if I want to clear a Saturday for an all-day game, I'd prefer it to be something with more crunch. My parents have The Lord of the Rings Risk, but it's been a long time since we've played it. I'll have to give it another go.

I don't know what expensive is, but the basic version of Sorry is currently around $20, which seems reasonable. What I did is there was a sale at Target (this was maybe about 10 years ago) and like a Sale -- and bought like 8 to 10 of the classics all for around $10 each.

This was really cool! I've never heard of most of these games before but would love to give them all a try. Lol that was pretty awesome you ended with Risk cause the entire time I was thinking I wonder if Risk will be on here. I used to play it with my friends all the time back in the day, but it does have some serious flaws, the worst of which is it's like 99% luck. It doesn't matter how good of a strat you have, if the dice are mad at you for some reason that day, you have no chance of winning. I will most definitely be checking Twilight Imperium out

There's definitely some luck involved with TI as well. And some days, they dice just aren't your friend. But, TI has ways of mitigating the lucky rolls with upgraded ships and tech. Full warning: it's expensive! If you're looking for that all-day game though, this is one of my favorites. I wish I could play it more often.

Great video! I'll have to check out that camels game, sound fun! Yeah -- in defense of classic games -- one thing I've found that in general modern games are crunchier. I dislike Monopoly, but lots of those other games I'd argue are actually pretty good -- for one reason they are super simple, and very easy to learn. How are the games you recommended in terms of complexity? I introduced some of the couples we hang out with to Uno -- and they love Uno (great drink beer or wine, socialize, simple to play, and very fun). Anything like Uno? -- and key here is simple -- my complaint with many modern games is that they IMO have gotten more complex -- this is fantastic if you are really into board games -- but if it's the occasional game -- where half the fun is socializing -- do you have any recommendations? All the games except for the camel game you recommended -- all sound more complex than the game you're suggesting they replace.

Party games tend to be my recommendation for those games. For instance, Monikers is a pretty evergreen suggestion as most people have played or heard of Taboo and Charades. You're absolutely right that modern games are crunchier- a reason we love them- but they're not for everyone. The classics are that way for a reason! For the simple to play, great to socialize, and very fun a few of my picks would be Cockroach Poker, Muffin Time, Decrypto, and Champion of the Wild.

@@CrunchyCozyGames Thanks for the great response! Yes, want to avoid party games - not looking for stuff like charades or taboo kind of games. Looking for simple board games, that are at that almost brain-dead level of simplicity like Sorry or Life (although Life I feel is too much of a children's game and Sorry gets boring pretty fast, although good for infrequent games). Thanks for the recommendations I'll take a list of the ones mentioned. And that Camel Up game you've mentioned sounds like something at that level. Definitely going to check out Camel Up, and look at these other recommendations. Thanks!

One we just played that we liked a lot was "Mountain Goats." Players roll 4 dice and then use them in any combination to move their goats up a track towards the top. But, only one goat can be at the top spot and if another goat makes it there, the one previously at the top falls to the bottom. It would be a great game for people used to Sorry or Life and it plays very quickly.

I enjoy the integrated whole, whose rules are easily adaptable for differing player abilities, though I prefer the actual rules with the auctions. There are several hobbyist games that can take the place of Monopoly, but not a single easily accessible game that does everything Monopoly does - that I can think of anyway. If I wanted a simple roll and move, maybe Mlem. For an auction game, perhaps Ra or For Sale. For buying and building, maybe the 2006 Days of Wonder edition of Cleopatra and the Society of Architects, or perhaps Alhambra, or even Everdell. All that said, I never actually suggest playing Monopoly these days, but do end up happily playing it now and then… and I’d far rather play Monopoly than Acquire… There’s room for all tastes of fun here! (Note I actually own two versions: the millennium edition and one from my childhood. I am fond of both.)

For sure. Board games are for everyone of any taste. This video was inspired by the various Monopolys I've been given as gifts because people hear I like board games. For some, Monopoly is THE board game, just not for me. I agree with you though that there's not a 1:1 comparison though. Acquire was my suggestion mostly because of the hotel buying and selling, but you're right, they absolutely appeal to different tastes. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@CrunchyCozyGames I don't like Monopoly -- main reason it takes too long to play -- but it does have one thing going for it -- almost everyone knows to play it. That's one good thing about all these classic games -- almost everyone already knows how to play them, and not counting Monopoly most of them are super simple. I subscribed to your channel -- I like that you seem to be into simpler games -- I can play Catan -- but the couples I hang out with -- that's way to heavy of a game for them -- so yes looking forward to some of your recommendations. We love Uno -- but I would like to add some variety to our game sessions. 😂
