One of the harshest anti-war songs ever written. Back when it came out, the `establishment` if you will, criticized this song as being satanic, because it mentions witches and Satan. They were full of crap. They knew exactly what that song was about and they didn't like the connotation one bit.

Word. I'm reminded of Winston Churchill saying during World War Two that if Hitler invaded Hell, Churchill would at least make a favorable mention of the Devil in the House of Commons, lol! Same for the Establishment War Pigs. THEY'RE calling someone "Satanic" ?? F THAT, man!

The original lyrics "Walpurgis"were more occult based, but it's far more powerful as "War Pigs" and it was that anti-war rhetoric that made Warner Bros Records demand the name change of the album to Paranoid.

More! They KNOW it's their LAST Warning! And that their time burns away just like paper in fire! There is much unknown to most, about this song. But everyone'll know in a few more years. I'll let The Righteous One tell ya about it then. ^_^

Nicely done, JM. The 3 guys in Black Sabbath had extended periods of brilliance. I did not see them until 1978. In one 7 day stretch I saw Foreigner open for Van Halen and The Cars opening for Black Sabbath, in Jacksonville, FL. In the week prior I saw Rick Derringer w/special gues Edgar Winter - twice. Good times!

So agree, don't know how someone imposes their video version which is fine for personal sharing, but how does the real band performing it get axed? This is where reaction vids from people that don't care enough and just grabs vids by views which contributes to this injustice,... Oh well

That album cover is most appropriate. When Black Sabbath hit the world they set it on FIRE. Just imagine what the churches thought. I was only 14 years old and remember what I thought... Music is never going to be the same again... I was right.

That was the exact reaction after seeing Aerosmith as my first concert in 1973. I said to myself 30 seconds into their opening song “This changes everything.” I was and am right! That was the Get Your Wings tour. Saw them again only a few month later fkr the Toys In The Attic tour. Then 3 more times before 1983, then lost interest until Permanent Vacation.

They do leave an imprint on you the first time you hear them. The first time I listened to them in the mid 70s it kinda scared me. I'd never heard music like that before. I love their early stuff with the original lineup like in this tune. I think my favorite tunes are Paranoid and Fairies Wear Boots.

I'd stick with the Paranoid album for now since you've done a couple of them. Most of my favorite Sabbath songs don't really have such heavy meaning. It's usually more about the music and the delivery than the lyrics. You already did Iron Man so you probably get what I'm saying.

Great reaction to a classic anti-war anthem. With NATO hellbent on out-escalating Putin in Ukraine, and the accompanying daily increased risk of Things Suddenly Spinning Out of Control so that the last thing most of us see will be the FLASH in the distance, I'd say this is a pretty timely song. Actually, what's awesome AND shitty about this song is that it never gets old...
