The reality that " Morecambe & Wise " Christmas Specials are still hitting the top viewing figures over 40yrs since the last one was made just reinforces how loved these two were & still are. I dare say as the years go by we will see less & less of these two on TV, but at least we were blessed enough to have enjoyed such innocent clever humour. Which is a rarity in the 21st century.

Probably the best comedic duo Britain has produced. They were (are) an institution. Stiff competition from the Two Ronnies but Morecambe and Wise tipped it with their length of time served.

Famous people would love to be invited onto the Morecambe and Wise show, Peter Cushing trying to get his appearance fee throughout one of the series was superb, the celebrities didn't mind getting the piss taken out of them either and as Des O'connor showed sometimes they got their own back.

I live in Northern Ireland, turn 50 years old tomorrow and this is the first time I've seen this sketch. When Eric complained about being mocked for wearing glasses I thought "That's RICH coming from a man who's trying to rob a bank" which made the joke funny. This is the first video of yours that I've viewed since you shaved off your beard. You look VERY different when you are clean shaven( in a nice way) but I still would recognise your jolly infectious belly laugh anywhere.💰🏦🔫

The idea of going 'off-piste' with the notes through the 'window' was so typical of these two and the wonderful way they'd do it would leave everyone wondering as to whether it was 'ad-libbing' or scripted.

They were the masters of classic comedy/sketch/variety shows, if they did a classic piece, they would improve on it like only they could, and when they created their own sketches, the sky was the limit. They had created their own style within a popular genre of comedy, and by doing it better than any of their peers, they ensured their fame for the ages. If there had been an Oscar for classic theater comedy, then Morecambe and Wise would be the all-time leaders in Oscar wins, as they would have won it every year during their career.

Hi, Not sure if anyone else has told you but Morecambe & Wise were part of what us known as the Golden Era of British TV during the 60s & 70s. They were so famous & influential that major stars from TV, Movies & Classical Music(Andre Previn) would love being involved as it helped their career too. All stars who appeared rehearsed massively to get these sketches right & the whole UK would come to a halt when families came together to watch their Christmas Specials which were the highlight of TV in the evening of Christmas Day. Both the BBC & ITV here in the UK had a massive stable of comedians & double acts, all beloved but M & W were comedy royalty. Great to see you enjoying British comedy & you are right when you ask, Why we can't make this kind of comedy now? I do think that we in Britain have always had a little more freedom to be a touch more risky with our comedy which may be why you love it so much.

My family actually saw these two perform live in Blackpool, Lancashire in the 1960's. There was a whole variety show, with singers, dancers etc. The main memory was when they pretended to be on a hospital trolley, travelling along a roller coaster which was projected onto a large screen behind them. After the show , we travelled through the Illuminations (check those out! ) One of my best childhood memories.

Woody Allen did something similar in Take the Money and Run. He had a gun made of soap which ended up as a fistful of foam and there was a lengthy debate with bank staff as to whether his note said ''I have a gun'' or ''I have a gub'' because his writing was so unclear.

Have you ever done a review of 'in sickness and in health'? Or 'steptoe and son'? You may have heard of the American versions of these shows, called 'All in the family' and 'sanford and son'. These were originally British shows, then American producers bought the rights, and produced there own versions. Archie Bunker is based on a British Character called Alf Garnet. Them shows are classic.

Morecambe and Wise made three feature FILMS in the 1960's. They are buddy comedies similar to Abbott and Costello or the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby films. Nobody has reacted to those. You could be the first lol They did pretty well at the box office and they are genuinely funny :) "The Intelligence Men is a 1965 comedy film starring the British comic duo Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise. In the US, it was retitled Spylarks. It is subtitled "M.I.5 plus 2 equals 0". The film was successful enough to enable Morecambe and Wise to make two further films, That Riviera Touch and The Magnificent Two. "

Eric made laugh out of the time he had his first heart attach too. He was driving an expensive car at the time a £7000 Jensen late night / early morning when he had to stop and ask for help. The only guy that was about was had only ever driven a tank in the Territorial Army, but agreed to drive him to a hospital. The Jensen lurched down the road like a kangaroo buy they eventually arrived at a hospital but it was closed. The only person in the hospital directed them to another hospital. If I can find the clip on youtube I will post it.
