Brazilian Marina Amaral, born in 1994, was studying international relations at university. But her twin passions for history and photography led her to abandon her studies to become a full-time artist. And her chosen medium is the colorization of historical photographs. It’s a skill that she’s honed to perfection and one she’s recently used for a project that combines a poignant sense of horror with a deep respect for humanity.

My uncle Gordon was one of the Canadian soldiers who liberated a death camp in '45. He refused to marry and never spoke of it, except to say it was the most horrific experience of his life, and he would not wish such a sight on anyone, and that this planet didn't deserve to have more children brought in to it, if that's what it's capable of. He finally did get married in the late 1970s, after he retired and they lived out their years together, very happily. He never smoked or drank and was the sweetest & gentle violin-playing uncle you could possibly imagine.

Patriotism dividing the world and thus creating more than enough war-emergence potential isn't dead yet and the USA's patriotism is far more dangerous than singular patriotic movements found in European countries at the moment. It is astonishing that so many patriotic, nationalist people still claim to be against antidemocratic nazi ideology, when they are the ones unwilling to stop segregating the world by labelling people in nationalist categories nobody has ever been able to actively choose in the first place. Faschist movements really could evolve anytime all over the world where mainstream culture prides itself on regional exclusivity and ostracism. It is true that the USA were amongst the countries ending Germany's nazi-regime, but it is inappropiate to imagine the USA as selfless peace-activists nonetheless - In all likelihood, the USA's main wish was not so much to save the world from harmful ideologies, but mainly to expand their own seemingly superior empire based on quasi-democratic values and managed by quasi-democratic capitalist elitists further. Unluckily, they haven't stopped doing so ever since.

look the artists point of colouring this photos was to let people feel more empathy for these prisoners. their original pictures were monochrome, which may lead some to just not bother to care, since they probably didn't look human. it was harder to relate, it was less real. after the artist coloured it, you could see more life in these photos, hence you could feel more. they were humans too. you could empathise with them more. and more feelings were expressed through the colours, hinting more about the hardships and misery during the nazi propaganda

Good video but the cheerful tone of voice with this subject matter is disturbing.

So touchy. You can’t even ask a well worded sincere question without being censored. No wonder no one knows the full truth about things. 🙄

Glad you put in the info about Jehovah's Witnesses in here. I've known about this since I was little since I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness. They had to wear a purple triangle. Most were so brave, loving and had a strong faith

I’ve read all the disgust about the narrators voice. He has narrated a lot of things online. He is just narrating. Reporting factual incidents of what happened. The picture are bad enough without a sad, dark, haunting voice telling the story. To see these pictures changes your life. I live in the same town as Eva Kor lived in before dying, and where she set up the museum to educate people on the atrocities that happened.

My great grandfather stormed in on D Day as a Canadian solider. He was hit by debris from a grenade. In the leg and stomach. At the end he was a well decorated soldier and the scars of seeing the dead left behind he was a heavy drinker after but never a mean bone in his body. RIP Great Grandfather Redmond

Hi, I'm 15 years old and from Germany, I just wanted to say how sorry I am for what my ancestors did.🙁 Terrible... Nazis were so incredible disgusting and same goes for Neo Nazis. If I could turn back time I would have done everything a human could do to make this NOT happen. Rest in peace 🙁❤ Es tut mir so so so sehr leid...😭❤ the pain and fear in the eyes of the people is so heartbreaking, I had to cry seeing this. We have the responsibility to make something like this NEVER happen again. (Sorry if there are any spelling/grammar mistakes)
