2 things: - Enable mouse smoothing made the game less jittery for me at 165hz - Having dive and climb on the same key is a problem. Sometimes ledges are not climbable and you end up holding your dive key and not climbing, or tapping it and diving into said ledge. A better option would be to set sprint to tap shift, and climb to hold shift. This way, you can tap shift and sprint into a ledge, hold shift to climb and continue sprinting.

same here. Turning mouse smoothing off will introduce a bit of jitter (120fps @130Hz here), so I leave it on.

If you put aim mode(first/third person changer) and melee on same button, you will change aim mode while aiming, but outside aiming, you will melee.

I also recommend tap CTRL instead of hold for stratagems. Works better with tap to sprint.

Yeah the change for tap and hold for stuff has been great. And I changed to the arrow keys for stratagems like you mentioned. The pros out weight the cons overall imo

Another good option would just be to make dive double tap the space key, you can do it really quick and many other games use that for dodge or roll so lots of people are already familiar with it.

normally jetpack is tied to holding the button that you press to climb. However since this is already a hold button in this configuration, it's effectively unbound.

Hi. I followed your advice and its awesome! Except for one thing. My jetpack is no longer working when I use spacebar. Instead of jumping in the Air I always dive. Do you have an Idea how to make using a Jumppack is easy and works in combination with the changed keybinds? I tried various settings, but I did not like any of them.

Great Video, I would suggest putting aim mode to HOLD on the right mouse button for the dynamic aim, its default will mess with the settings.

I'll throw out a pro-tip that applies to far more than Helldivers. Get away from WASD, go to ESDF. It centers your hand, making it easier to reach more keys. With WASD your full pinky reach falls off the keyboard, whereas ESDF allows you to now more easily reach keys like 5TG and 6YH. Yet TAB, CAPS, and SHIFT are still within easy reach. This coming from a guy with small hands. Frankly, WASD was obsolete before it even became standardized*. ESDF is literally the hand position keyboards are designed for. *Yes, this comment dates me. I've been gaming since before the original DOOM, which used the arrow keys, CTRL, and ALT as its standard keybinds. Mouse? Is that that new-fangled thing?

Interesting. I'll have to test this out. I also cut my teeth on Wolfenstein 3D and Doom and remember (many years ago) having a tough time going from right hand on Arrow keys to left hand on WASD.

I completely disagree. You can easy access to modifier keys without moving your hand (which you don't want) with WASD. The layout you mention means you need to stretch your fingers, and potentially move your hand often, which is suboptimal when playing fast paced games.

TIP to cycle weapons using the mouse wheel. under key binding (combat). Change Equipment Short - Mouse wheel up will switch your primary and secondary weapons, while Change Equipment Long - Mouse wheel down switches you to your Support Weapon .

I use this but reversed. Only miniscule problem is not scrolling fast enough and it "switching" to the same weapon. Easy fix is just scroll with confidence 😂

My personal keybinds that are different (hopefully it makes sense for someone else): Spacebar hold - Strats (I use it too often to not have somewhere easy to press) Ctrl press - dive (couldn't stand using alt for that, you use it too often especially in higher levels plus ctrl is used as slide and crouch in a lot of games so it works reflexively) Alt - climb (i don't climb often enough and shift run is auto climb, i use when needed and/or hold for jump packs) Binds that need constant movement and direction like sprint, dive, and strat calling while running HAD to keep my WASD fingers free.

The only issue I've had if with jump and dive sharing the same keybind, you're unable to use the jump-pack.

In counter strike you can move with WASD and Arrows at the same time, is there any reason we cant do that in helldivers 2? It could be nice if i can just hope on the arrow keys to move a bit while doing WASD for stratagems :/, dont want to rebind and learn everything again.

Note on V-sync: you should keep it on with a frame cap if you have a g-sync monitor for the maximum smoothness with no input lag penalty. The game is a hog for system resources and even on 7800x3d + RTX 4090 you will get FPS drops from time to time, so it's better to have variable refresh rate enabled (unless your monitor has a bad implementation of the tech, which is often the case with Samsung Odyssey monitors, you can check whether or not your model has problems on RTINGS).

"Open strategem list" works best for me with _PRESS_ Ctrl instead of _HOLD_ (combined with the arrow keys...) With my pinky not having to keep the button pressed it's much easier to move. Moreover, I don't lose time from mistyped combos caused by an accidental release of the Ctrl-button.

New user and I have always used a controller on my PC, but decided I am going to commit to keyboard and mouse starting with Helldivers. Played through the first few levels with everything on default and it was definitely a little clunky for myself to learn. These changes made it so much easier and now I am killing commie bugs and bots in droves.

Good tips but the space bar to dive and climb has gotten me killed a few times. I just set it to always climb as a toggle with another button. There's almost never any reason for you to not climb anyway.

Good point. Personally I haven't had any trouble with space as climb and dive but I could see issues happening. I just make sure I'm holding down down space. But I haven't thought of just a climb toggle, that's a good idea

The best setting I’ve found is placing the mini map as the side mouse button and the stratagem call in to side mouse button make sure to change this one to press instead of hold so that you can just press the button and not have to hold it. make sure arrow keys are selected to actually call down the stratagem this allows you to sprint and call in things at the same time it is so op and makes the game so much more easier

@@regenosis by default the buttons are the same moving/calling down stratagems. In the option screen scroll down to where you see your stratagem controls and change the up,down,left,right to arrow keys, also make sure to change your stratagem button to press and not hold

@@trueawakener5211 What I mean is while you are moving with your left hand on WASD, it's your right hand on the arrow keys, meaning you have to take your hand off the mouse? I guess that's the trade-off. It's probably worth it but gonna take some getting used to.

@@regenosis yes correct. But honestly it’s not much of a trade off since you can’t shoot while calling in stratagems no way. The only true con is that you cant fully look around but you can definitely still turn left and right to avoid bugs that are in your path while calling in the stratagem. It did take a few games to get use to it but once it stuck it’s been the best button setup I’ve tried so far. And works very well with the jump pack which you can call your stratagem in while in the air which is a good brief safe place when things are going crazy and your surrounded by bugs use the jump pack there’s a small window to call in your stratagem while in the air

put switch aim and dive on space, climb on shift. you can also put climb on space to work with jetpack but i was going under the map whenever i ads while near something climbable, although if i repeated i got out.. also do Qadc and mouse 3 hold for stratagem

Level up your stratagem bindings. Get a mouse with side scrolling and bind your stratagems to your mouse thumb buttons for up and down and side scroll left/right for left and right. Boom. Stratagems on mouse

Everyone who has above 60 FPS after turning off "Mouse Smoothing" has a problem with stuttering. There are a lot of threads about this on Reddit. I think it's the graphics engine's fault, the target hardware for this game was the PS5 console and the game doesn't handle that much information directly from the mouse. On RTX 3080 and mixed settings (Ultra/High/Medium) I have about 115FPS, after turning off "Mouse Smoothing", despite the same amount of FPS, the frames feel like they are dropping.

Almost all of the difficulty of this game is battling the stupid fucking aiming reticle that's constantly swaying with a massive delay to what you're actually aiming at. This goes double for larger weapons especially marksman rifles. I don't know why we can't just shoot where we're aiming. Recoil on a full auto weapon is fine obviously, but why do we have to wait so long after we've already lined up the crosshairs? I hate it so much and it is by far the biggest deterrent for me.

Mouse thumb buttons are already bound to push-to-talk, other to game and other to discord so that's a no. Primary on mouse wheel up and 2ndary on down is a good idea. And jesus why do ppl still play with wasd-setup. Been using esdf for ages and dive is bound to a. Gives the ability to use at least y and h (maybe even n if needed). I don't understand wasd.
