I just got fitted and chose the JPX 923 HM with 460 Recoil F3 shafts. I am 65 with a 4.7 index and have been playing the JPX 900 Tour irons with Recoil 660 F2 shafts for the last several years. While I scored well with the 900's, my distance suffered. I was hitting my 7 iron in the 155 yd range and I play with a lot of younger players who are 2 clubs longer than I am. I wanted distance without giving up accuracy. My 7 iron now is just over 170 yards consistently and my ball flight is straighter than ever. This is my 4th set of Mizuno's and I feel as if I have found the fountain of youth. Thanks Mizuno!!!!

I’m 62 and have a 23 handicap. My swing speed with a seven iron is 76 mph. I’ve just been custom fitted by Mizuno and approached the fitting very open minded but have to admit I was hoping I’d walk out with the Pros. I couldn’t believe how well I hit the HL’s and fitted with the Neo Pro shaft was bang on centre strike. This was a huge improvement over my usual toe strike. Mizuno have absolutely nailed it for those struggling with launch due to a lack of club head speed. I did hit both the Hot Metal and Hot Metal Pro’s but the HL’s were a clear winner. Just waiting on my order to arrive now 👍🏻🇦🇺

Same here Grant, I’m 65 with a 9 handicap, and my best was with the high launch. Mainly because of the stopping power. 7 iron avg during the fitting was 155 carry and 162 total. Even better on the course. I’ve played about 10 rounds with them and picked up a solid 2-3 GIR. I didn’t get the GW, but I might order one. There is a big difference between my PW and my 50* Volkey. I did get a 4 iron in the HM and weakened it from 19 to 21 degrees. And it’s a beast.

@@budbeasley221 I actually got the set from 5 iron to sand wedge with a 4 iron replacement ( 20 degree flyhi hybrid ) which I absolutely love hitting. Like you, I love the high flight and the stopping power on the greens. I kept my TaylorMade “big foot” 60 degree which works in well with a five degree gap between PW to lob wedge. I’m actually finding I can hit greens more often and from further out. Can definitely see my handicap dropping to high teens next year. They just give me so much confidence. Glad to hear your enjoying yours and I think it just goes to show that they just might be the ants pants for many different handicap players 👍🏻🇦🇺

@@ski3504 The set begins at 5 iron and down to a 55 degree sand wedge. I supplemented the set wth a 20 degree 4 hybrid (fly hi) to replace the 4 iron ( also fitted).All clubs are consistent by retaining the same shaft from 4 hybrid to SW. Hope this helps. By the way, my new H/cap is 18.7 thanks to a few lessons and actually having the right clubs in my hands for the first time in my life. Hope this helps 👍🏻🇦🇺

The pro is offered so that people can combo. I’m a 9 hcp and I could see myself using a 4-5 hl, 6-7 hot metal, and 8-gw hot metal pro. That would be a great combo set imo

I think the JPX Line up is absolutely awesome, it’s nice to have variety and some people don’t like the look of the 221, 223 or 225 and would like a JPX Line but in a more compact form to suit a players eye but still retain the performance That’s a JPX Line offers. I play the 921 HoTMetaL and I’m going to play them until the heads fall off they are absolutely incredible. Mizuno rocks

to answer your question. players cavity performs different than a hollow back players distance iron. ive personally had i525 and pro 223, neither perform like the zx5 or hmp or wilson d9 forged...zx5 and hmp and d9 forged are more forgiving yet offer the same offset profile and longer heal to toe....there is definitley a market for that exact profile. hollow back irons i525 and pro 223 arent very good on thin mishits smaller profile heal to toe. the one exception may be the tm p770 and 790 because of the power slots....

Great vid Matt. As others said your question has a two side answer: -the pros are there to enable doing combo, it’s nicer to have thinner top lines and soles as you get to the 8i +. -also, you’re a pro wirh a fabulous swing speed. Normal and older people will likely see LONGER carry with the HL than the others due the novel mix of tech and traditional/weaker lofts. 🎉

Matt, good vid. Thanx for all the great content. With regards to your question, I think it’s important to note that, at least here in Norway, the 923 pro is close to half the price of the 225 pro. That could be why they added the 923 Pro. It’s a less expensive, but still compact club.

I got fitted for a new set of Mizunos earlier this month and it was a toss up for the 225s and Hot Metal Pros. Only reason I went with the HMPs was price. Saved $350 but yes I agree, tooo many options and it gets confusing.

I had the 921 hmp and just got the 923 hmp. I loved the 921 tons of forgiveness and felt amazing. The 923 does all that but looks way better. Me personally I don’t strike the ball well enough to jump into a 221,223 pro model. I need the added distance from the hot metal. So the hot metal pro is the perfect combo of forgiveness distance while still looking amazing. That’s why I chose them.

I was hitting someone’s Cleveland High Launch 3 iron on the Foresight simulator. I was absolutely shocked how high it was going and that I was getting 6-7000 backspin on a 3 iron. They are made for lower swing players that have a hard time getting the ball off the ground like my 82 year old golf buddy that goes with me sometimes.

There is sole differentiation between jpx & pro lines. The cavity back will be more forgiving than the most design. Mizuno knows what they are doing when it comes to design and marketing. A set of MP18 MMX is still on my wishlist.

Here's my story: I played JPX 825 irons for 9 years and loved them. Last year I thought that I would get a new set of clubs, given the age of the 825 and technology advancements. So I sold them and got fitted into another major brand iron after trying them all. They were nice in the fitting bay but I could not play them on the course. I began to wish I had kept my 825s. Now, a year later, after trying to make them work, I gave up and went back to get fitted again. I told the fitter about my old 825s and asked if Mizuno still made a model that was similar to the old 825. He brought out the 923 models and the rest is history, as they say. I now own a set of 923 Hot Metal. Perfect! They remind me so much of my old JPX 825, only they perform better. Mizuno did it again for me!

Think you have a very valid point Matt. I went for my fitting at Birkdale performance centre on Sunday , I was pretty open minded but really liked the look of the 225 s . After the shaft optimiser he never put one in my hand . Instead I tried JPX 223 hot metal , Calloway’s , Taylormade stealth, Cobra. I ended up with the Mizuno jox223. I tried them in the studio and on grass on the range . 1 more week till they arrive . Ps , I added the Gap wedge to my set .

Matt, I played MP20 MMCs for a season but needed to switch to graphite to help with a bad case of tennis elbow. Switched to the JPX921 HMP and haven't looked back. Sure, they don't feel the same but distance and forgiveness are A++ , I play off 5.3 and honestly, a straight ball flight suits me 90% of the time. Negatives, knockdown shots are almost impossible and they are too hot sometimes. The 19deg 4-iron with Recoil shaft is an absolute weapon

I think the HL is its own beast for slower swingers, different to the others What you want to consider is blending, it's not just about "one club sets". As you say, the pro is more workable. So you can go pro or HM, or build a set with pros in the scoring clubs and HMs for the long irons. I've got a 921 HM 4i back in the bag, and I use it as a driving iron off the tee or harder fairways - 210 summer average. I couldn't do that with my previous set. 221/223/225 - same game, but for blade lovers, and the workability is even higher. Much less likely to build across, though. But you can.

It makes sense that you would question the number of irons offered. But one major aspect you missed is price point. The Hot Metals are one of the best values out there at $963 US. The 245 pro are a good bit more at $1400 and play smaller than HMP. The jpx tour and jpx forged are the ones that are most redundant comparing directly against the MP line

Brooks Koepka played and won with previous jpx tour models as a non Mizuno staff member. And according to a couple of sites JPX Tour is the most popular choice for irons played by Tour professionals who are not contracted to play a specific brand of golf clubs. And there might also be a generation who grew up with a jpx model and got better and better in golf and want to stay ‘loyal’ to the jpx And the other way around, those who played mp-blades and looking for a bit more forgiveness aren’t feeling to switch to jpx models. But I would think the people of Mizuno have figured out all their data to cover the whole spectrum of their golfers preferences.

Why do you hate us? (j/k) You are missing what the industry has also been missing for quite awhile now...that there are decently skilled golfers with slower swing speeds that can benefit greatly from GI technology, but either struggle with the severe offsets, oversized club faces, and wide soles that come with it, or don't want to give up workability. We've been BEGGING for a club like the HMP for many years and now you question whether it is needed? What is next, we should only be allowed to play with hybrids? The 923 HMP continues the refinement of an iron that is PERFECT iron for golfers like me.
@daveh2814
@daveh2814 Жыл бұрын
I'll add that the offsets of the 923 HMP are nearly identical (w/in .001") to the 2010 MX 300's I used when I played my best golf (5 hcp). The GI tech allows essentially the same 7 iron to be 4.5 degrees stronger with even more forgiveness. The additional 1.5 mm of offset in the HM (and 2.5 mm in the HL) is a big negative for me.

@@BuffaloBarber24 225. I got tested and it was similar dispersion/distance. HMP is a few yards further, but 225 looks better...the 225 is really forgiving in that small package...as long as you don't use a 225 for a 3,4 iron....I shoot low 80s, 5 iron 500...I have a 6 iron to SW.

I loath how manufacturers trick consumers to think they have invented special clubs. The difference in launches is nothing more than the loft of the iron. For two decades club makers have decreased the loft to make golfers think it’s science behind how they gained distance when in fact they made a 34 degrees 7 iron, 32, 31, 28.5 degrees.

The difference is the with low and rearward placement of weight, the stronger lofted irons achieve the same peak height.

You forgot CoG. If you JUST de-lofted a club, you can’t be getting those peak heights… So yeah, it is, in fact - science and math. Funny that. 🙌

That’s incorrect. For these particular clubs it’s the weight distribution across the face that results in the high launch.
