I was visiting my daughter's family. Her three boys don't want their socks to match. After a 15 minute discussion/debate on this matter we left to take them to their schools. Sure enough there were whole schools wearing unmatched socks. I have reached old age for sure now. I can't imagine how society can go on without their socks matched. We live in Arizona and shorts are worn (even this cold winter) with unmatched socks!

What I did for kids socks was that each kid had a different brand sock (easily identifiable by looking at them). I only bought that sock in the one color for the same kid. I didn't match socks in pairs but a quick sort as I could easily tell them apart and then they went in their respective rooms/drawers. No wasting time matching them up or having odd look sock that doesn't match anything else.

I had one boy with white sport socks and one with black, they preferred it that way - then they switched to white but one liked no show and the other liked ankle so I could tell them apart- buy lots of the same brand so you don’t have to match socks

Great tips. I especially agree with the meal one. When I was a child my Mum worked, so my Dad cooked the tea. We had the same thing on a certain night of the week for years & it worked great - Monday: Cold meat & chips, Tuesday: Toad-in-the-hole, Wednesday: Shepherds pie & so on. Even as an adult I’ve been like this, tho as I hate cooking & don’t cook from scratch, (No lectures please) I’ve relied on things like fish fingers & ready meals. Also, I know that air fryers etc are great but they’re not essential. As long as I’ve got a microwave & toaster I’m happy.

Great video with a great message 💕 Three kids here, living in a cold climate and having a looot of socks, the bin works great for us, after washing and drying kids usually help me sort them and put away, they really like this task😊 I decluttered for a year and a half and burned myself out so much, trying to reach the minimalist lifestyle, that I couldn't do anything at home but the necessary for a long time....then it hit me...now I'm back on track, and taking it very slow, and not trying to reach anywhere but comfort in our own home
@homesteadingdreams8046

I can completely relate to that myself. I had been going strong for about 4 months and I was so burnt out. I just had to take a break. I'm now thankfully back on track and going strong, but I agree that it is so important to just go at a pace that is manageable so we're not all burning ourselves out trying to achieve something that's not easy to achieve. The way I see it is it did not accumulate over just a few months. It is taking years to get to this point so we shouldn't expect to be able to clean it up that fast either. Good luck to you!

I made up the word Essentialist long before it was a word. I got the idea from Joshua Becker’s idea of family minimalism. Specifically when he talked about having extra serving dishes for when they have guests for dinner due to being a pastor. He said these things didn’t fallow the minimalist rules, but it was what his family needed. I like the idea of minimalism, but didn’t care for the “rules”. As I declutered instead of counting things I looked at how essential things where to making my life easier. That’s how I came up with the term Essentialist. I commented on a KZfaq video. And bam it was the title of a book 🤣🤣🤣

My mother solved the sock problem when I was a boy. She refused to do my laundry (nor my father's) unless we pinned our socks together. Each of us was given a package of safety pins. Ideally, we would take off our socks, turn them the correct way, pin them together and then place them in a hamper. Reality was that on laundry day, I dumped the hamper, searched for the socks, and pinned them together. This is embossed into my memory. These days, all my socks are identical. No pinning. All I have to do is ensure there is an even number after the wash. Famously, while traveling a few years ago I did laundry in the hotel and did not match at the end. I had been up for 18 hours and exhausted. The first thing I said to my traveling mate was, "Did you find the sock in the dryer when you did your laundry?" She had. :)

Socks! The following has worked for our family for over 2 years and is so embraced by my family that my husband purchased new socks yesterday and only bought 2 packs of the same black socks. Colour coordination! My socks are all black and short, my husband's are all black and tall. My old son has grey socks and my youngest son has black socks with grey toes. It makes laundry super simple. Each family member knows their colour. This has worked so well for us that relatives know not to buy us socks because it will mess with our system.

I think that clutter stress is generated not by the clutter itself, but by the awareness of it. "I have clutter in my home. It is wrong". Even if it is an extra pair of hair clips in an almost flawless home. Real messy people just don't get to it. They think everything is OK or they just don't give a damn.

3:19 I pin socks together before putting them in the hamper with safety pins. I throw them in the wash that way. They don’t rust but after a lot of washes they’ll start to tarnish and I just replace them. Sucks aren’t ruined.

Also only live plants and ethically recycling, being vegan. 😅😅 Although I still do what I can with better recycling. But I live with kitty carnivores and I like meat, dairy etc...Can’t keep plants alive and can’t seem to get the hang of gardening....don’t even like most veggies... and “fresh” often just goes bad on me....and just now learning cooking/food storage basics...which to me is daunting...so....lol. I mean I was never taught these things. I have to look up every little thing (like how do I store this or can I freeze that, how long does this cook again and what temp, etc?) and get “lessons” if I ever buy anything beyond just freezing meat. 😅😅 Progress is very slow but I’m seeing it. Doing pretty well with at least wraps, salads, soups, sandwiches, basic meat with one side dish cooking. I mean seriously, Bcuz to me hummus and naan bread is what I call a “meal” sometimes. 😅😅 Frozen pizza also. Or just give up and eat cereal at night. Lol. But I’ve also gotten pretty decent with “assembling” a “homemade” Pizza but with a ready made crust or flatbread. I think I’m way better at “assembling” food than actually cooking it tho. Lol. I’m just looking for decent mental health and less unnecessary chores, easier to clean spaces, less hectic schedules, less high pressure situations, higher efficiency of systems and routines. Less wasting of money and stuff. I usually just tell people I’m “into” minimalism and that it has really helped me in all those areas mentioned above. I honestly don’t know who wouldn’t want all that. I know I do. Lol. But there is a line where doing your due diligence can become more like switching from one obligatory prison to another and all the guilt that comes with it from yet again not “measuring up” to some impossible standard and where you are just making more work and stress for yourself in some other way. I think the key is working on your mind and how you think about things. If you change your mind about some things, then the necessary actions will naturally follow. And also just catering to you and yours. Being very specific and learning as much as you can about what you (and your household) want, need, who you really are, how you flow in life, etc. 6 cats. Used to be 9. Stray cat and raccoon management outside. 3 renters on the west half of my house (and one with a hound dog). 😅😅 Sorry so long. Thanks for letting me vent about my “Betty Crocker” wanna be struggles. 😂😂 Not that I want to be Suzie homemaker extroidinare. I just want to learn better ways to feed myself and get to where “what to eat today” isn’t so often a huge brain straining experience for me. Lol. I seriously would not mind at all if there were just a few pills to take for a meal. Then I wouldn’t have to stress over food things so much. 😅😅 And I srsly don’t know why the rest is so simple for me and easy but the kitchen and food etc is like some impossible Mt Everest for me. If I was going to use a title, I guess it would be something like an efficient essentialist. Lol. Socks. Mostly keep them identical and keep the number low. And don’t even wear them much whenever possible.
