On the show today, we have with us Anand Neelakantan. He is an Indian author, columnist, and public speaker. He is someone who's specifically known for his mythological fiction writings. From books like 'Asura: Tale of the Vanquished (2012)' which was based on the Indian epic Ramayana, told from the perspective of Ravana, followed by a series of books based on characters from Mahabharata and Baahubali. It was a pleasure for my team and me to host Anand sir at our space, a man with utmost humility and warmth.
In this very special episode, we spoke about the various versions of the Ramayana, from Ravana's perspective, the unheard, untold stories, why is Dussehra celebrated, and the perception of Gods like Lord Ganesha & Kartikeya, Ravana & much more.

Now being a Telugu person, I am little proud of our understanding of puranas , here is the thing , Currently, 50 years of Brahma have elapsed. Since 50 years of Brahma have already elapsed, this is the second Parardha (second 50 years of the 100 year life), also called as Dvithiya Parardha. The last Kalpa, the ending day of the 50th year is called Padma Kalpa. We are currently in the first 'day' of the 51st year. This Brahma's day or Kalpa is named as Shveta-Varaha Kalpa. Within this Day, six Manvantaras have already elapsed out of the 14 Manvantaras and this is the seventh Manvantara, named as - Vaivasvatha Manvantara. Within the Vaivasvatha Manvantara, 27 Mahayugas (4 Yugas together is a Mahayuga), and the Satya, Treta and Dwapara Yugas of the 28th Mahayuga have elapsed, out of 71 Mahayugas. This is the Kaliyuga of the 28th Mahayuga. This Kaliyuga began nearly in the year 3102 BCE . (After the war of Mahabharata)

Yes , in Ramyan it is said that Jambhavant born from yawning of Brahma was born at the beginning of this kalpa ....he witnessed creation of universe , clapped hands in glee when he saw Vishnu battling Madhu and Kaithab . At the time of Ramayana he was 6 manvantar as and around 100 mahayugas old ...

There is a reason why Rishi Valmiki's Ramayana and Ved Vya's Mahabharat is called "itihasa". It is not classified under vedas, puranas, upanishads, etc. Itihasa literally means "and so it happened". You can point of few things as perhaps exaggeration or metaphors. But certainly you cannot brush it off as fantasy story like Harry Porter. There have been re-tellings. But the original versions are our history just like World War 1,2, Cold war, Russian / French revolution, etc.

This is what happens when you bring a weak communist from Kerala to talk about Hinduism. Lot of Hindus have been tainted by Islamic and other influences in Kerala, and they have lost touch with truth. This clown is a prime example. Ramayan and Mahabharat are history Itihas, and all versions of Ramayan should be ignored except the original Valmiki Ramayan. Some jokers thought they could spin their own stories about Ramayan.

@@rutulbokade1972 He kept on referring to re-tellings as equally likely historical incidences as Rishi Valmiki's original Ramayana. That is certainly not true. Also 0:22 he clearly says "I don't see them as history". Regarding the repetition of Ramayana in a multiverse, I am not sure if that is mentioned in Valmiki's Ramayana. Regardless, saying that "it is not history" is feeding right into the western propaganda of Ramayana and Mahabharat as mythology. They certainly were NOT a myth.

Sita = Mind , Ravana (10 heads) = Indriyas (10 Senses) / Ram = Ekagrata (One pointedness/Attention) ..... therefore the union ram sita is a story of the mind. Looking for everlasting bliss in 10 senses and resting in one pointed symbol ram.

There are different versions of Ramayana, I agree with that. It's like Marvel had one story in comics and different version of story in cinematic universe. But I think the first Ramayana, that is Valmiki Ramayana is the source of all Ramayanas.

There is nothing called as oldest version, we follow the cyclicals timescale and there no one is old or new, its the way as it is. Circle has no beginning and end. Kakbhushandi himself said he had seen Ramayana and Mahabharata with different results.

I was already familiar with the ring story. The first one where sita mata says about her exile with Sri Ram In previous yugas was the new one. I will remember this. Also, the most authentic Ramayan is Valmiki Ramayan only, infact, in Sri Ramcharitmanas, there are few contradictions with Valmiki Ramayan. Fact- Valmiki ji took birth as Tulsi Das ji in Kali yug to again spread the glory of Prabhu sri Ram and lead the humanity towards Bhakti and Dharm

The orginal story maybe about a war that really happened and the others are just copies. Like pirated versions. The descriptions maybe metaphorical because many indian yogis and sages were poets in the first place, but the war really happened.

My grandma used to tell a similar story where Sita was Ravana's daughter. He came to know of the fact when Sita was in vanvas. He couldn't bear this and asked Sita to come with her father, to live in his wealthy palace. As Sita didn't agree to this, he forcefully took her, "by abducting her shadow".. In her version of Ramayana, everyone was a good person and did the wrong thing because of either good intentions or misunderstandings.. Edit: I remembered how Sita was conceived.. So, Mandodari did a vrat to have kids and a sage gave her a fruit, asking her to eat the peel and Ravan to have the pulp. But somehow Ravan ate the whole fruit and he became pregnant! Embarrassed by the situation, he stayed in his room for 9 months, gave birth by sneezing the baby out of his nostril and ordered to secretly abandon the child. That's how Janak Maharaj found Sita..

Thumbnail fact: It's the picture of Sun (ML hero based on the Chinese myth of Monkey King). He is actually a Buddhist character of a beast famous in Chinese and Tibetan Buddhism who was tamed to accompany one of the Bodhisattva to obtain a very important text. There are several Chinese movies based on him and interestingly, the dragon ball z anime is also based on the same character but in a human form (Goku).

valmiki ramayan is the original version. every other version are renditioning/ interpretation/ commentary. ravan was referred to as dashanan cuz he was very learned, just denotes strength of ten brains. similarly shreeraam was mentioned as dashgriv, doesnt mean he had 10 faces. it means he was alert, watching in all directions. sahastraarjun doesnt mean he had 1000 arms, it means he was very powerful physically. sanskrit is poetic language.

i saw a post online in which a woman starts crying kneels down and puts her head on foots of Arun Govil sir who played Prabhu shree ram in ramanand sagars ramayana and she stays there for a while immobilizing him so he requests her husband to stop her.... you can see so much emotion and devotion towards a actor who played prabhu shree ram. so a humble request to ranveer ik you are always excited its fun to watch your podcasts but flow flow mein kaam mat bighado "use your words wisely"

@3:19 its not multiverse of madness. It is "Cycle verse of Craziness". The story shows the cycle nature of epochs. That means Satyuga, Tretayug, Dwaparyug, Kaliyug ends and then again Satyuga starts. And this cycle goes on and on. And events keep repeating themselves.

Mahabali is one of my most favourite character. Because inner hanuman has to take a choice. Though a Tamil Brahmin, I love the fact that I still worship guru padhmasambhava. Gives lot of clarity. But Sita being a daughter of Ravan is true in some versions.But Mahabali is also considered a big bhakth. A war won can change history

We all go round and round and end up knowing the truth for liberation, thanks to all ther versions to teach us a civilised way of living so that we progress no matter what religion plays a significant role in a story. Ultimately the truth belongs to all and these stories are just a mere tool to evolve.

The only true versions of Ramayana are the Valmiki Ramayana and Tulsidas Ramayana. The rest of the others are just man-made versions by the people of kali yuga.

The story where Sita is Ravana’s daughter goes something like this: When Sita was born it was prophesied that if she is in lanka, lanka is destined to doom. Hearing this ravana decides to abandon the child and leave her in a river in india. Meanwhile janak is childless, after many yagnas, he was guided to dig at a certain place (Sorry but i don’t know where exactly). Upon digging there he finds Sita(same reason why bhudevi is considered sita’s mother and also when sita wants to end her life after seeing luva kusha and rama fighting he says “O mother please take me back to your womb” and bhudevi comes and and takes her into earth). The prophecy comes ture when Ravana without knowing sita is his daugher abducts her and takes her back to lanka which is the beginning of its doom. It is believed that for ravana’s good qualities, he was blessed with a goddess daughter who even gods address to as mother/devi but for his bad qualities she was the very reason for his demise.

As I had read somewhere. Ravana was a great astrologer and when mandodari gave birth to a baby girl, he foresaw that this child would be the reason for his death so he asked his guards to kill the child sending them faraway. The guards took the child north and threw the child into a river then it was found by king janak 🙏

First of all - change The title of this clip, it is immensely disrespectful for the content material that you are claiming to discuss. If you really want mind blowing theories about the Ramayana, there are many other perspectives, like look at all the plants mentioned in the Ramayana and how they closely align even today with the geographic locations in which they were mentioned. Look at the construction of the bridge between Lanka and what is today Tamil Nadu. The real mind blowing aspects of the Ramayana are likely the 18 secrets of the story, however this is all at a very high philosophical level.

Ami Gantra had made the point that Valmiki Ramayan says ‘it so happened’ you don’t question movies that say’based on true story’. Why would they lie? It is a re-telling of history with the purpose to give lessons on dharma and truth.

I am from Malaysia When I went to Bali in Indonesia I saw "Wayang Kulit" which is a beautiful version of Ramayana.....this Wayang Kulit is performed since ancient times over there and the best Character I liked was Hanuman Dangerous and fierce looking Hanuman

I have heard a story like ravan just wanted to sita to be in his place (as sita is avatar of god laksmi). As he wanted that his country should always be prosperous. Ravan consider sita as maa. Along with that ravan was also a devotee of lord Ram, he was a gate keeper of god Vishnu. One day Vishnu told that make sure no one should disturb me. That time laksmi came to meet Vishnu,and the gate keeper refused to give her entry. Then laksmi gave curse to that gate keeper.. like this and some related story also ...

I think, as the different versions of the Ramayana were written by sages and munis or people like them, maybe they wrote about Ramayanas in different dimensions. It is known that the creator Brahma applies different permutations and combinations to create different outcomes or the same series of events. Likewise, maybe this is the same thing...Different outcomes of Ramayana in different dimensions, going through a different timeline of yugas. We can get the idea from Dr. Strange MOM for sure.
