Japan is a country at the cutting edge of robotics technology. While many advances in robotics are utilized in factories and other industries, they are also finding their way into restaurants! Today, Shizuka explores the fascinating world of robot cafes and restaurants.
From a long, robotic arm preparing award-winning coffee, to robotic avatars controlled by people with disabilities, Tokyo’s robot cafes are a peek into what the future of dining may look like. Absolutely amazing. I worry about the consequences for servers, however it seems the restaurant still had a host. But it's a wonderful and unique idea and execution! Thank you for sharing!!!

That cafe with the avatar concept is really good outlook for the future for sure. Imagine disabled people who still have special set of skills can get a second chance in what they do best not specifically in restaurant but other things like painting, care , constructions.

That is soooooo cool!!! I especially love the concept of the last restaurant helping people with disabilities continue working. I’ll definitely be checking these places out when we (hopefully) travel to Japan next year.

Great implementation of technology, if the robots will be multi-lingual. I don't speak Japanese and have been intimidated by going to Japan alone. I hope DAWN expands to more locations - I would pay a small fee at every establishment to talk to someone that is bi-lingual with English as one of the languages. I can see this as a great gig for people that knows at least two languages to help a guest make an order - imagine a Japanese person going to Rome and taking to someone remotely that can speak Italian and Japanese.

pretty cool, I prefer interacting with an actual person though most of the time, although it's great to see some of them give opportunities for people to work from home, anyways it's Summer time and you know what that means, bbq! Robots are ok, but would rather see more Robata videos!

I would get ice coffee from that cafe I didn't know pepper parlor was a thing but I heard about pepper the robot Dawn Cafe is cool if I was working at one at home it be fun and nice how she mentions disability workers I wish these were in America 🇺🇸 Bring to New Hampshire

4:04 Improve restaurant profits, cleanliness and make it easy to clean, by laminating (gloss) the restaurant paper menu (print new clean ones) in plastic at local stationery shop.

Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics" A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. So far so good at those cafes. Another fun video!

I see Shizuka, I click. The novelty of robots is interesting now, but I wouldn't want say Shizuka replaced by robot. People need to work, and I do interact in conversation with people providing goods and services. Now if the Gundam robot available, I'm there.

With labor shortages all over the world... Robots will eventually replace people in certain jobs. Increases efficiency which is great.. But it would also mean certain industries and jobs will be gone in a matter of years.

I particularly like DAWN cafe. Not that I am against the others but they don't really seem that interesting for me. I'd much rather speak to humans but robots piloted by humans also meets that criteria for me.
