I hope so too. My friend worked as a hospital porter from his twenties to his retirement at 65. He came out to visit me on an island in Malaysia to celebrate his retirement and died of a heart attack two weeks into his holiday. One of the last things he said to me was "I wish I could stay here." He got his wish. He was cremated and his ashes put in the sea opposite the beach bar where I have a sundown drink.

The definition of bittersweet. Probably ecstatic to spend more time with his wife and just live but when it comes time to do that last task you find yourself wanting it to last just a bit longer. Good workers give themselves to their job. He is stopping the thing which fulfilled him and made him feel like a productive member of society. You gain ultimate freedom when you retire BUT use that freedom to continue to apply yourself. The moment you stop living is the day you start dying.

I met a former chief steward of an airline who had reached the age for retirement for flying. He was put on the check in desk at his local airport unril his pension was due. He was a very sad man. I came across these stuations many time in my long life of 82 years. Many of my nursing colleagues died not long after retirement and some by their own hand. This lead the to a group hospital programme of Preparing for retirement. The same applies to people who have worked abroad for many years and then when they reach 65 have to leave.
