@@neilmckimm5077yeah it boomed in 1 year. She only started two years ago and she already had celeb cameos. Social media had been such and equalizer for bringing talented creatives the platform they never would’ve gotten in the industry because of wealth and nepotism. But now, they’re coming for social media lol. A lot of her content is just redoing other people’s videos but with better lighting and background because of her resources. That being said, this is a bit of an exaggeration to a marie antoinette joke when there’s more villainous pro-Israel celebs and politicians to fry. She’s no different than any other celebrity at that event. She’s just dumb enough to say something so stupid bc she doesn’t have as good as PR. Screw all of them equally

How is it satire if she literally is just a rich person who made a lot of money from divorce? I’m being for real with this question. Jreg is a similar type of “everything I do is satire” type of creator, but what makes him work is that he satirizes the political climate like in the Boondocks. He intentionally makes it unclear what side he’s on to emphasize the potency of his specific critique of the institution as a whole without diluting discussions with people arguing about his bias. I think in recent years he’s come out as liberal tho. With Hailey, she’s satirizing rich trad wives… but ain’t she herself a rich wife? Won’t that dilute her satire? She ain’t a poor woman or a woman of unknown wealth making fun of extreme wealth-she IS extreme wealth, except she wears it ‘sarcastically.’ This is giving Jeffrey Star “I’m a rich asshole but you love me because I’m self aware about it.” We loved him… till we realized how messed up he was and how little his sarcasm/self-awareness covered it up. It’s not cute, it’s hypocrisy. Also, her billion dollar boyfriend is a joke, but wasn’t she married to a rich NFL player? I think the “let them eat cake” bit could work as a great piece of satire, but it’s muddied by the fact that we can’t tell what’s real ignorance (billion dollar boyfriend) and what’s not (divorced an NFL player and she does have a 17k a month apartment). We’re stuck arguing about her rich person bias and whether it’s real or all fake. Like the way people make fun of CinemaSins for including real nitpicks with the joke ones, making it unclear if they’re being satirical or not. Could someone more knowledgeable on Hailey chime in on this aspect? What bit about her personal brand differentiates her from say, an unholy mix of CinemaSins and JeffreyStar?

All I learned from this video is young rich people buy $17k/month apartments instead of $4.3million Mansions. I'm all for people making money doing what they love, but maybe we should have a cap on wealth. And I say that as someone who is financially comfortable and privileged.

Yeah, when you have people spending an entire year's income (for some people) on one month's rent like it's no big deal, you know that things have gone too far. In some circles this woman wouldn't even be considered particularly wealthy, which is the most concerning thing. There should definitely be a cap on wealth at some point, otherwise it just encourages hoarding by the upper echelons. To the point where we now have levels of wealth inequality that are WORSE than the level of wealth inequality during the French revolution (something that I genuinely didn't believe until I looked it up).

because she's explaining that she isn't out there buying expensive couture gowns for one night. people were accusing her of paying for met gala tickets, which she didn't even have an invite, and you can't just buy tickets anyway, you have to be personally invited by Anna Wintour. they were doing each other a favor. it's about promotion. if you know anything about the fashion industry you would understand that the people making a lot of these clothes give them to stars for free so that their stuff will be seen and photographed. That's always been a part of it. what she means is that her and her friend worked together so that both of them could get ahead in their careers. He WANTED to make it for free so that his work could be seen and appreciated. I have seen countless people talk about this before, this is normal for passionate up and coming designers. she could have paid him for him to do work for her but that wouldn't have been the same thing, that's not what this was. she's saying that this was something they collaborated on. they're literally friends, she didn't use him, they helped each other. again, this is common for models and designers to do. I would also like to add that the met gala is a charity event for the metropolitan museum which is the way that we preserve fashion history including the fashion of everyday people. I think a lot of people mad about the met gala have no idea what it even is in the first place.

@@marigolden_mariposagirl, i literally live in new york. It’s a bunch of rich people partying under the guise of charity. The Met houses thousands of artifacts, not just fashion. The amount of money and resources that go toward the event could’ve been donated to the fundraiser. I was at the Met two weeks ago and Ariana was literally doing a performance using THOUSANDs YEAR OLD egyptian city-walls behind her. I was too afraid to touch them, but they’re using it as stage decor. But yeah, sure, I just don’t know what the met gala is and how it impacts the city i live in, and they just really care about history when they’re dancing on it. None of that is helped by the fact that the people from the countries where these artifacts are from will never get to see them because they were acquired through european colonial looting, only to be turned into a party venue once a year. Everything about the met is done in poor taste

@@MoMo-rx4zr While I agree with most of what you said, I just wanted to point out that the Met Gala is literally a fundraising event to keep the clothing part of the museum running (which is the only part of the museum that needs to rely on outside funding). Like I said, though, I agree with basically everything else you said. I don’t know why they can’t AT LEAST have the Met Gala event in an actual party venue (though that wouldn’t change all the other things wrong with it). But yeah, unfortunately, fashion history isn’t taken as seriously as many other kinds of history and most historical clothing sections of museums, including the Met, rely on outside funding.

She doesn't strike me as ill intended. She just tries to sound very relatable (trolling trad wives and stay home girlfriends and whatnot) when facts are that she's extremely privileged herself, which makes her out of touch; and I knew that eventually that would start annoying people. I never followed her content, even when youtube has really pushed it, exactly because after a couple of reels only, that was very clear to me. Her privilege put me off simply because she was trying to sound relatable in a world where she is everything but, because the vast majority of people are living pay check to pay check, when they have one. I am done with rich influencers displaying their wealth online to a world where the majority could not even dream of having what they have, their lush apartments and houses, their fancy clothing. I mean at one point she starts showing herself looking all glam while attending Hollywood events, how relatable is that!? Some people are commenting that she's privileged because her boyfriend is very wealthy, but I bet that she comes from money too, since you don't just get to date the wealthy these days unless you somehow already belong in that world yourself. The richos date and marry each other, it saves them the awkwardness of a really tight prenup. But these new generations of rich people just lack in self-awareness to gigantic proportions, they just shove it down people’s throats with these clueless displays, showing no consideration for the generalized poverty that our societies have been living under since 2008. That’s called being out of touch, and people are rightfully done with it. At least don’t display it, keep it to your eyes only, have the respect and decency of at least not rubbing it in people’s faces in the current economic climate; and also don’t insult us by trying to sound relatable when you are everything but.

I think it's more about progressive liberals seeing shapes and colors than anything she really did. There's a lot of anger over income inequality and complacency in genocide, and a lot of more individualist liberals are gonna project the blame and the righteous anger onto specific people rather than the systems they live in. Someone was gonna catch that blame and be the proverbial scapegoat; Haylee like many celebrities is out of touch, wealthy, politically ignorant, and public-facing, so on the list of potential candidates she goes. She just got unlucky being the one chosen, largely because she made something out-of-touch to someone just seeing shapes and colors; it's "wrong place wrong time" type shit. Personally, I don't really care about shitting on her or defending her all that much. She's wealthy but she still pays rent, so I don't really see her as all that similar to people like Biden, Bezos, or Bill Gates. She's just some random petite-bourgeois (or perhaps labor aristocrat) lady on a platform already known for support for Palestine. The whole "digital guillotine" thing is kinda nonsensical and ineffective IMO, but I don't really have much of a problem with it cuz it might raise a bit of awareness.
