I once took my '76 Cutlass to Firestone for a front end alignment. Four hours later I returned and my car was in the same spot I left it. I went inside and was told they can't align the front end because the FUEL PUMP was leaking. I left and never went to a Firestone again. That was 35 years ago. I drove that Cutlass for another 8 years before I let it go. Never did change the fuel pump.

My gf went on a long trip, and when she came back one of the tires had a spot on the sidewall about to pop with steel wires sticking out. Another time we went on a short trip. We got there with no issues. But, coming back as soon as we got onto the onramp, the car started shaking. We pulled over and I inspected all the tires. One of the rear tires was bulged out so far it was unbelievable that it hadn't finished bursting. The spare tire had very low pressure, just enough to hold it up so we crawled to the nearest air pump. I ensured that we now have an air pump in the trunk. One thing to note: do NOT use tire sealants if you have TPMS, it will destroy your sensors. They may say "TPMS safe" but they are not. Lesson learned the hard way.

My tire was low on air and the edges became square, so I threw on the spare and drove my Corvair when the weather was less than fair to the diner for a steak that is medium rare. I should replace the tires as a pair, since the other side is showing wear and the car itself is in need of repair....even the headliner is starting to tear, but I don't care. My wife is having an affair and I'm losing my hair. If she leaves she gets to keep the BelAir. It's all too much to bear. Life is unfair.

Yeah it is new but so far so good at 50k miles. And yes my 2010 Traverse I still have and my 2010 v6 lt2 2010 Camaro who’s engine blew around 100k were nightmares. They have completely redid the Mazda line the last few years and are very nice. But as I’ve learned it could all go to hell in the next few years so here’s hoping. I haven’t been a car person per say and have owned many Chevys and a Dodge and even with good maintenance about 130-140k miles they crap out. This car actually reminds me of my 2000 Honda Accord I had. IDK how to say it but the build quality of the interior alone just seems superior to what I’ve been driving previously.
@Horizon301.
@Horizon301. 4 жыл бұрын
Ryan Arnold still, any german car will last just as long with not a single issue pretty much yet they aren’t the most reliable. The thing Is the interior quality is likely a step up from what you had previously and that makes a huge difference on the overall perceived quality. If it is GM products you had before then you may know but they are so bad that they don’t even sell them in the UK really, quality is tragic. Reliability is less so a concern here though, things like the interior make a huge difference, hence VW Group and BMW lead the way in this field and technology, Lexus for example can’t beat them or even come close to VW in terms of technology so for such reasons even those and Toyotas aren’t good sellers. I think what matters most is that you love the car

Hey Scotty the rear tires on my wife's Honda Accord. We're like you mentioned feathered wear like hills and valleys and we're making so much noise. We took them to our mechanic and had me feel the tires..We couldn't see it with the naked eye. Great video Scotty..Thanks So Much!

Heriberto Mendoza Rear tires on front wheel drive cars do this a lot. Have them rotated more . Like every other oil change . Also make sure they only run the lug nuts down with a power wrench and final torque with a torque wrench . Over torquing lug nuts will warp brake rotors .

@Eze&Yare Dominguez More importantly they have been through tons of heat cycles and they are probably dry and hard as a rock with absolutely zero grip. Your tires are like your skin, and they have moisture and oils in them that break down and evaporate over time.

Good habits that I learned to do to my tires: 1. Check the tire pressure every two weeks (15th and 30th of the month). Inflate, if necessary, to recommended tire pressure*. 2. Rotate tires EVERY oil change**. Have alignment done EVERY OTHER oil change. * - Tire pressure is printed in the owner’s manual and/or on the driver’s side door. ** - If your vehicle comes with the same exact FULL SIZED spare tire, include it in the tire rotation. Hence, doing a 5 tire rotation. Having done these two important things made my tires last longer than before. It’s a great money saver too because the car has better gas mileage and tires wear a lot better.

I think people make too big of a deal about tire wear. I've been driving and doing my own vehicle maintenance for about 25 years. I always run tires until the tread is almost gone. I will only change them early if there is a bulge out of the sidewall or any other damage to the sidewall. knock on wood, I have only had one blowout and that was from hitting a chunk of concrete from a landscaping truck. Luckily, that was the only tire i have had to change from the side of the road too. Now that I live in the city with all the used tire shops I haven't bought new tires in about 10 years. I can usually get used tires with 70-90% tread for half the price of new, sometimes less. Sometimes its hard to find matching sets of used but it seems fairly easy to find them in pairs. I don't just put used tires on junk vehicles that i will only be driving a year or two, I put them on nice vehicles i want to keep because It saves me money over the long run. I may have to replace tires every 3 or 4 years instead of every 5 but when you are doing it for less than half the cost its a lot easier on the pocket book.

@@marchawk3080 If you're happy putting around on used tires (that somebody else got rid of), it's no skin off MY nose. Over 60 years of driving experience in many different types of vehicles, and in all climates, has proven to me that NEW tires are the safest (wrecks cost MONEY!), most economical (in the long run), and provide the greatest peace-of-mind during our long-distance, high-speed touring through the American West.
@marchawk3080
@marchawk3080 4 жыл бұрын
@@SlikLizrd used tires are almost never tires that someone got rid of. Almost all of them come from salvage vehicles and still have assloads of life left on them. They usually throw away anything under 50% tread. Tires with 50-70% tread are 1/3 the price of new. Tires with 70-90% tread are about 1/2 price of new. I got 40k miles out of the factory Goodyear on my '14 RAM after i bought it new. I bought a used pair of Firestones that i put on the front for $120 and a used pair of Michelin i put on the back for $100, both were 80+% tread. I have 35k on this used combination now and I at least have another year left to go on them. This is my smaller gas truck that i use in my business which is hauling trailers. I use it for local deliveries thats why the mileage is so low compared to my diesel. My diesel wasn't purchased new and i haven't paid as close of attention to the tires o have on it. I am just trying to let people know what has worked for me. Anytime i can find a way to not pay retail price i feel like i won. I know that a lot of the older generation (who come from the 50-70's era when you could buy a new car with 2 months pay) like the false piece of mind that you can get from paying retail prices at stores. Some folks out there just need to get down the road as cheap as possible. That's the situation i was in not too long ago and it taught me a few things. I was just trying to pass on some of what I have learned.
