5:46 - I asked a friend of mine who is a pilot, he said yeah theres technically some rules but they are mostly guidelines and if you try to bring anything sharp or something they deem dangerous, they will take it from you. Scissors, screwdrivers, knitting pins, whatever.

Another outstanding video JC. I believe that all of these tools wouldn't be allowed on a flight from Ireland

Ive seen several people on here (americans ofc) who say that they take a prybar when travelling instead of a pocket knife, because its a legal way to have a tool that does some of the same things and works as a self defense weapon at the same time. What they seem to not understand, is that most of the civilized world will enforce the spirit of the law and its usually not actually any less illegal to stab someone with a prybar than it is with a knife. Its the action that decides what the object is classified as. Also the thing I dont understand with most travel kits is why are people so focused on getting them through the security at the airport? Just put the stuff you want in your suitcase that you get back when you land anyway. Is there something one needs a screwdriver or pliers for while drinking a 50 dollar can of coke in a tiny airplane seat? Someone please explain this to me, im going nuts over it

I think there are frequent travelers, especially business travelers on short trips who prefer not to check in. So some kind of useful EDC may be desired. I know I would prefer not to check in too most of the time. But often I check in an empty suitcase that contains a couple of knives. If I get stopped at customs randomly, that always gets a strange look from the custom officers.

@@urbanknifeguy I guess that makes sense, I would prefer to travel light too but I find it often a bit cumbersome to not be able to bring stuff and not being able to take stuff home with me either.

I'm not sure what TSA agents in the US might do but in my experience, neither in Germany nor in India you would be allowed to bring one of these tools into an airplane. In the EU are rules like you can bring a knife with 4cm blade etc. but the security agents simply take even smaller knives away in my experience. They simply throw such things in their bin. So, not only in Asia: keep such tools in your check in luggage if you want to ensure that you have them at your destination. Btw I'm seriously concerned what people think who urgently want to bring such things like pry bars etc into an airplane. Why someone would need anything like that on a plane?

Never heard of a plan being hijacked by someone with a pry bar. I'm concerned about people who accept authorities putting so many restrictions on everyone. If a lunatic wants to attack people traveling they can do so at the security line with no problem. If they want to hit someone with a hard object, there are plenty of other options. The 9/11 hijackings could've been prevented by locking the cockpit door. And putting things in your check in luggage doesn't ensure you'll have them as they can be stolen. Japan has a low theft rate but in much of the world a lot of travelers have things stolen from their checked luggage, or have their checked luggage stolen entirely.

I mean, are you really going to need your tool on an airplane anyway? Just put it in your luggage that you’ve checked on. I understand some people don’t want to check on any luggage but if it’s really a big deal and you’re not going to check on luggage, just buy a cheap multitool. You can use on your trip or make sure you square away some money to buy an expensive one when you get there if you really think you’re going to need it but for the most part, no one’s going to need that type of thing on a trip. Maybe you’re going on likelong bike ride across Europe or something so you might want a tool but I think for the most part if you’re going to do a big long trip like that you’re probably going to have a lot of luggage and so you can just use a check on service.

Would bet all the tool listed there can be confiscated at most security check points in South East Asia or most Asia countries I travelled to. Would say anything / tool possibly can inflict injury is not allowed. Sharp, pointy, saw tooth tools are no go. Flashlights with 'DNA extractor', large zip tie, small cute knuckle, tactical pen with pointy end, duck tape, nail clipper -- super high chances to be removed from the owner before boarding in some airports.
@urbanknifeguy

I think Zip ties and Duct Tape should be fine. Nail clippers are ok if there is no pointed file.

@@urbanknifeguy Can’t recall which county that I traveled to recently that illustrated duck tape and zip ties are not allowed as carry on. Could be Vietnam or China. First time seeing these as banned items on plane.

Can't see any of those being allowed on a flight leaving the UK either. You might get lucky if they don't realise what it is but theres pretty much a no tools allowed attitude. Cheers 🍻
