Today we are taking a look at the Timbertech 130 airbrush. which is the same airbrush as the master G22. Or does it just appear to be? We will find out! The Master g22 has been a very popular airbrush on amazon for some time. Partially because its very cheap price tag. However is it worth having? What can you really expect from a cheap airbrush in todays market!

I should mention, by no means am I implying these compare to an iwata or creos level of airbrush, or even a sparmax. However I am very aware some will choose to try a much cheaper option to get started for various reasons. I just see no need in spending anymore than necessary on the same product. Not everyone can or will justify a significantly larger expense to try something out. I still strongly advise a quality name brand airbrush for those who are certain they are going to be doing a lot of this for a very long time. All the best to you! Bill

When i started, I got a master g23 and it was enough to let me know if I wanted to continue. The seals was the first thing to give out on it. Then I got a harder and Steinbeck evolution it was an excellent brush but expensive. I got a few other brushes in between. The last brush I got was the gsi procon 2.0 and it's a great brush for the price.

And I think that is the most common reason these sell so well. Even with the creos 290 being in the 100 ish range... that's still a bit out of the comfort range of most people just to try and decide they want to do this.. Also in my case I bought a cheap airbrush just to spray some stenciling on something that a spray can was way too much for. If there was no cheap option, i may have never bought my first airbrush.. It wasn't until after that I got interested in art. :) It was a couple weeks later I walked in hobby lobby then bought a neo (which i did not keep long and was not much better) Because even when I bought the neo i had no idea i was going to be using an airbrush much. I didn't know how to clean them.. was trying to spray pearls through them etc. It was a rocky start for sure :)

I have the Timbertech from a bundle with a compressor, and it's not even labeled with a name. And then I just bought a used Master Airbrush, which after studying, looks like a G22, and noticed it was exactly the same as the "Timbertech" one I have. I guess I've got some interchangeable parts now. Also acquired a used Badger 105 Patriot with the Master, and I'm thinking it'll be my workhorse. Sounds like it's a little nicer quality than Master brand.

Hi Bill, that's a very fair and interesting overview of the cheap airbrushes. I have the H & S evolution 2 in 1. It's so easy to strip down and all the different parts are interchangeable with the other airbrushes in the H&S range. you basically get 2 airbrushes for the price of 1. Still more outlay than the cheap chinese airbrush you were reviewing.

Absolutely. I won’t really keep any airbrush that has a screw in nozzle only option. Except grex or passche which have much more robust nozzles and threads. And even then those are not my first choice. Easy to clean and maintain is often overlooked. But 16 bucks? I’d not feel bad at all about this. 30 bucks even really probably not. Speaking of I need to do a mass review on some brushes. Cause I think I’m gonna sell about 7 and probably promptly go buy more to try 😂

2 year ago a bought a fengda kits for about ~$115, compressor vwith tank,Airbrush and 6 bottles of cheap paint,and i bought for around$33,- a fengda 183 with the 3 exchangable needles and nozzles. Just changed the o-rings for better o-ring. Polished the needle and guess what. Still working 100% and use it 3-4 times a week. Noise level is the same,still quiet. Getting only in the spanish summer hot after 40 minutes. But a smaal ventilator does wonders. I was a trucker before and the golden rule was. When you take care of your car,the car will take care for you. Now i bought myself a x-mas gift. A H&S evolution 2 in 1. And will use the fengdas for Primer and clearcoating. The still work as the first day. Maybe i got lucky. But i did not wanted and could affort to spend $500,- on better material then. And i was not sure or i could manage the airbrush. Was the best buy i did. But slowly upgrading things,now i know i am a decent to good car moddeling painter. Happy holidays for ALL out there

Awesome! Clearly I didn’t need another airbrush. And got some really nice ones here. But I thought it was important people could see these are the same. As I mentioned it took me buying a cheap one to know I wanted to do this. 😀 Thanks for commenting!

@@TheAIRspace your welcome. I hate that some builders have not a good word about those cheap brands. I do watch a lot barbatos rex and others about the ins and outs from Airbrushing. And including you i get wiser and more clever about the mixing rates etc. But we all need to start somewhere. And my last build won a 3 th place in a regional modelshow with a special note about the paintwork and how well it was done. For me this was a great result,due my only 2 years of Airbrushing experience,and whit cheap tools. The 2 winners above me complimenten for that paintwork also. And did not believe me i have done that job with a $33 airbrush.

@@janvanrenselaar5998 what is missed about airbrushes.. is types. Needle taper is important and noone talks about that.. For instance of these two airbrushes neither would be a good choice for basepainging models... and pearls would clog them quickly. But by the same token a badger patriot is awesome at spraying basepaint and pearls etc at models.. but really falls down as a detail airbrush (in standard needle and nozzle configuration) Different airbrushes suit different needs, one of the reason there is such a huge difference of opinion. I love doing art, and small detailed paintings but I also love doing larger paintings.. and occasionally i like to paint up 3d objects. What works best for either is not the best for the others :)

While these do a decent job, im still not a fan of screw in nozzles. I just dropped a review of one with self centering nozzles. They can get the job done, they certainly are not as refined as my iwata or creos brushes. But they do have a place.

Hi Bill. I just got what appears to be an unbranded 130 for Christmas. The wife gave it to me to review on the channel I'm launching. I can't find any info on the nozzle size, but it pretty effortlessly pulls clean hair lines. The one thing I noticed is the needle rides a bit off center through the reservoir. My best guess is the teflon seal is deformed. Will the seal from the G22 fit it?.

I totally agree, It’s been my experience to just use the cheaper Chinese airbrushes and if you need parts just order another and strip one of them down for parts. I purchased 2 extra 130 airbrushes for parts. Total was around $30.00 with free shipping plus I got extra needles and such. My Sagud brush parts will interchange with the cheaper brushes. Used to be die hard Paasche guy then I found out they were even getting their compressors from China! Funny thing for 1/3 the price, I can order the same thing from Amazon. So long Paasche!

when I first started i got a master. One day later I tossed it. Two years later i have 10 brushes. Not Masters mostly Iwata and creos. But one day i decided to try the Point Zero... ITs identical as a master but its the best chepo i think now... All and all as you know that there is only a few manufactures and they mostly come from the same place...lol MAybe the difference is when you get experience you can make any brush work the way you want... Does that make sense to you Bill? BTW Congratulations on the 10K buddy... You deserve it..

The point zero i have has been pretty darn good. No question i could take a harbour freight clean it up tune it and make it perform.. don't mean I would want to :) But I certainly understand what you are saying. These are still mostly throw away i mean who would spend 15 bucks rebuilding one. But they are wildly popular I mean the g22 is the same as the g33 minus the cutway handle and needle limiter. Which of course is just another fengda. I mainly bought these just to show they were the same airbrush. These are serviceable.. aside from the needles being pretty rough finished.. you could definitely do worse. Now with that said.... I have a cheap airbrush here that ill show in a week or two. That far exceeds my expectations. Enough so ill probably buy a second. But ill abuse it a little and see how it likes that for a bit. If it was warm enough id go outside and paint something big.. but yeah that shipped has sailed for the next 3 months :)

If you’re on a tight budget but want something really good - GSI Creos Procon Boy 0.3 (PS289) was for the last couple weeks in ~$84 range on Amazon, comparable to Iwata HP-CS. Can’t for wrong with that one.

I’ve told everyone about that brush, and the cost yet soo many sleeping on that at that price point . But even then I look back to where I started and I was not willing to spend that on my first airbrush either. Of course I had no idea where I’d go with them. Clearly there’s a huge market for ultra cheap airbrushes, this video is just pointing out many are just the same. I do have a review on the 289 it’s my most recommended airbrush at any level.

Good video on these! Although I don't want or need one, I do have a question. I have a Matco MABCR3 (highly overpriced new) I bought used with a bunch of paints and other stuff that is also this identical external style. My question is are the tiny .3 screw in nozzles universal among this style brush? I broke the nozzle a long time ago but wasn't interested in Matco's inflated cost for the whole kit (needle, head, nozzle, cap..) and they do not offer individual parts. I was looking at the Sparmax dh-103 nozzles but wasn't sure of threads and other perameters. I did read too to avoid the cheep Amazon stuff though due to poor machining and soft materials.
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace Жыл бұрын
I’d have to look that brush up. There are two sizes of threads I have seen on these so no they are not all the same. Amongst most of the Chinese ones they are the same thread but not all. I’m pretty much of the opinion almost all threaded nozzles just suck period with grex and pasche breaking the pattern with thick beefy threads. I wish there was a full database on the threads but unfortunately not. And I certainly don’t have time money nor enough desire to build one 😅

Buddy just bought me the Amazon $169 compressor w/tank Kit w/ G22 brush 24 paints going to get into Fishing lure painting ... hopefully its a great starter kit .... what brush would you recommend after I stop being a rookie and want to upgrade ??
@TheAIRspace
@TheAIRspace Жыл бұрын
For lures and stuff, details are not all that important. its a lot of shading. and most details are done with stencils What is important is easy to clean and durable. And you are going to want to spray pearls.. So your going to want another airbrush probably very shortly after you start trying to do metallics. For basepainting primers/ laying clears/ and metallics at smaller scale like that badger excels. The original partriot, the omni are great. The ps290 gsi creos fan pattern airbrush is also amazing ive done a review on that and the omni elsewhere on the channel. The patriot arrow is really inexpensive on amazon right now if you don't mind a smaller cup amzn.to/3WZnLsT The 290 amzn.to/3Z4TElJ Ive been testing a really inexpensive airbrush that's significantly higher quality than the g22 with self centering nozzle (easier to clean and maintain) that i'm sure ill be making a video on soon. But i'm really putting it through some torture testing for a bit. That probably will make a highly recomend list *This post may contain affiliate links and as an Amazon Associate and a member of other affiliate programs, I may earn a small compensation from qualifying purchases.
