Paradise fish recover very quickly and easily from certain illnesses. Mine was full of parasites and had some sort of eye infection. He healed up in less than a week. Very sturdy, very hardy fish. Explains why they're so widespread in their natural habitat in most parts of Asia. So adaptable.

I keep almost exclusively anabantoids , to many people look past them . They among the most highly evolved and intelligent fish you can keep. Keeping and breeding them ranges from easy to extremely challenging , an Asian black water biotope with a ph 4.5 and some of the licorice gouramis is about as good as it gets!

I miss gouramis - problem here is that the commercially available DGs are a genetic ruin, you get a couple of months out of them before they go all scabby and die. Are those albino paradise fish a little less fighty than the standard ones?
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 2 жыл бұрын
Um the albino ones seem really all over the map. Some are MORE mean....and some are relaxed. I think inbreeding is an issue, but more-over, I think the ones that can't see well, are meaner and more nippy due to fear.

BY DG you mean dwarf gourami I assume ? Well those are over bred , I love labyrinth fish but always despised those. I have had success with Pearls , honeys, sparkling, cross banded chocolates and a variety of wild betta types they are such a large family so many better options than DG if you ask me .

@@bertsbooks2505 You can't tell me pearl gourami , any variation of 3 spot gouramis, honey, sparkling, croaking, snakeskin, moonlight, aren't easy to keep they are incredibly easy. You can got to petco right now and get an opaline or gold gourami that will live for over 5 years with out much fuss easy. Other than your experience with dwarf gourami , give me an example of the horror show. It's simply not accurate to say that. BTW a pair of say betta cocina or brownorum or chanoides or rubra will thrive and spawn in a 5 gal tank.

Probably too cold for any domestic types. Wild types can withstand even a light frost, However the domesticated lines are far weaker since they weren't selected for anything but looks

at 0:52, where did you get the box filter with slots at the top? also have you made your own box filters? i think the plastic containers strawberries and blue berries come in could be used by just adding an airlift tube. the lee's filter boxes are $10 these days. the internal box filters are prolly the best filter you can have.edit/ i just saw a vis saying the paradise fish can tolerate temps to 5 degrees C in china, with slow acclimation as fall/winter provide. what do you think? are you still keeping them in pairs? no aggression? i have a spawn of 40 in a 20 gal, they are adults now and getting very restless. i have been pulling the aggressive males and placing in outside tubs. i have never seen the ''kissing'' behavior yet. one pair already spawned in this tank and i was able to remove the male with his nest in one big gulp of a 1 gal bowl. he rebuilt the nest twice as i had to relocate the fish and nest, and i now have another 100+ fry. another question, what is the average yeild of viable fish from a spawn? i have 45 from first spawn, i have about the same # from theis next spawn. there seem to be 200+ fry to start and then they dwindle down. i notice some grow much faster than others and become so big i must remove them lest the eat the smalls. also some stay so small, almost microscopic.i am thinking there are some genetic probs and they self cull due to this. also now i have adults, some are still miniature in size. i think these tiny adults could actually be desirable in nano tank set ups. any thoughts? btw, i use infusoria, micro worms, and tiny copepods as food during the tiny stage. once they get big enough i graduate them to dry food i grind up with my fingers, still keeping up with they live foods as well. i can see their tiny bellies almost bursting so i know they get plenty to eat. and same with bettas, i have 2 spawns and about 40+ adults to show for each. what do you think?
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 14 күн бұрын
Indeed, I make a lot.. or Frankenstein them together with old parts.... that's what I did with the top of this one too... took an egg tumbler top and popped it off and placed it over the filter

Fish spawn in waves of growth so that no one group gets eaten all at once... but it also means fry get cannibalized frequently. Just depends on the species

I have a stupid question probably. How do they have seven male powder blue dwarf gouramis in a tank at the pet store and they get along fine but yet they are hostile at home? At least from what I’ve been seeing or reading. your female looks pretty blue. Is there any way I could find a female at a pet store (that they think is a male)? What would I look for? Also, that is a gorgeous paradise fish you have. that is so so cute that they will actually jump the tank; darling things.
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 5 ай бұрын
Yes females*generally * have rounder fins with less of a pointed notch near the tail... more 2 rounded lobes. Then usually are nearly all blue. No red stripes ( unless spawning, then some lines do, others don't... all males have the red or orange lines though). And females often have stolen bellies also
