There has been a lot of debate this week about whether India should officially be called "Bharat". The Indian Government also refers to itself as Bharat at the #g20 Summit.
There were also many meltdowns over India being called Bharat, as many political parties, media, and intellectuals opposed the name.
In this video, we discuss, if India should be called Bharat, and how it is part of a broader strategy of decolonization by the Indian government.

India and Bharat , both are official names of our country. In our constitution , in English , India is used everywhere, and in its Hindi version, Bharat is used. Everywhere India is used in English , and Bharat is used in Hindi. So any name can be used officially and we can call our country both India and Bharat. The only problamitic part is that some politicians are doing India" vs" Bharat and according to some India is a gaali.

And yeah, these parties are hypocrites, they dont even stand with those who are with them. But as sham implied in his video, these changes are must for out culture, nation. Decolonization is a thing we should focus on. Like now we call Hindu dharma to sanatana dharma, we will also move on to bharat. And be proud of our native names, native heroes. It is not our name, it is not our representative, India is representative of the geographical region not the culture. if that so, then every religion in india is hindu.

I grew up in India we were not taught much about our culture in schools. The history books painted a very unflattering picture of Bharatiya Hindu culture. However in all this there were these series of comics called “Amar Chitra Katha” they were absolutely awesome . In fact when my kids were in 6 and 10 were brought ordered the whole collection and brought it back. They absolutely loved it.

Our education system needs immense reforms and inclusion of our rich history at every level. I was from ISCE board and what i found highly unusual was that quite a lot of importance is given to European nations, the USA and other regions with entire chapters dedicated to them while all states of our nation are simple summarised into a couple of chapters. Each of our states have such a rich history and geographical nuances, rich culture, traditions and cuisines, ways of living. They each need to be equally highlighted. This will also make us aware of what we have, including our eastern states. Further, even in science and technology, agricultural practices and local methods of irrigation, economic structures and other technologies, which have be indigenously developed, should be highlighted to students at an early age so that they have precedents with local roots later in life. This will also give our young population to further improve on them and adapt these examples for modern business and thinking. Current absence of this knowledge has left our generation with only foreign precedents which, though being essential, often do not fit into our structures of public thought and practices.

Yes it is true that our current Govt. needs to rectify the majority of our school taught syllabus, specially in History text books. As per our old curriculam we were taught to praise Tipu Sultan, Babar, Akbar as some sorts of hero, where our true heroes our true legends remained in shadows, we were never taught about the great deeds of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and how he protected India from these outsiders.

@@AzadHind572 First of all, no one criticized the word India. The whole narrative has been shown in a way to mock BJP's move. We are not mocking 'India', bhai we are all Indians and Bhartiyas which is one and the same because both the names were and are in the constitution. The only difference is that we are grasping our ancient roots and claiming them too. In layman's language India was a name given to us by the raiders few centuries ago. Bharat has always been our nation's name. But did that make us angry about India? No, even though our rulers called us Indians we made it our's in every sense. We didn't just become Indians but we have and still love India with whole of our hearts. That's who we are and have always been we go with the flow right, we don't question, I mean we still call Gandhi as Mahatma and no due respect in given to Savarkar and Boseji and all the other people who gave their lives for us. We were okay with it, I feel ashamed that I was too. Because we have always seen the same narrative. And what we see we believe. That ain't gonna be no more.

Though I agree that completely removing 'India' will not be a good decision and i think Government is not that stupid. Because the name 'India' has tremendous significance on Diplomacy and Geopolitics. While I also agree that the name 'Bharat' should be addressed whenever possible as it has connection to our roots and culture

@@foggychader67 Bharat is a Hindi version... In kannada, we add "a" in end, "Bharata", in Tamil , maybe it's Bharatam. So, people can argue that why only Hindi version is used. So, it's better to use "India" at international level.

A start can be prioritizing regional language as 1st language of education and 2nd English and 3rd any language of other state till 8th. It's all in the mind. Second of all, the thing I am smoking is not stronger than the thing you are smoking, so please give me the name of what you are smoking (🚬 please I need it). Third of all, if the name of India is going to change, it will going to change on a global scale not just India because Modi Ji has such influence on world. And, fourth of all, the fact that some countries have different native and official name is only because either Europeans can't pronounce them right (and we just follow their example and don't even try to pronounce them right) or they can't be written properly in English. Which is not the case for "Bharat" as it is easy to pronounce even for Europeans (I don't know why they make fun of our Indian english accent when they themselves can't pronounce such simple words in different languages) and can be written in english letters as well.
