So I've been wanting to take a look at this mod for a while, and today we do it rather relaxed and unofficially, I do plan to play some more missions, including ones with vehicles, perhaps checking out some of their custom skins and vehicles in the editor down the line.. But this mod is basically singlehandedly fixing all the things wrong with Call to Arms in my eyes.

ABOUT THIS GAME
Call to Arms offers an innovative mix of real-time strategy and 3rd, as well as 1st person controls. Set in the time of modern warfare, the game offers realistically modeled vehicles and heavy weaponry, as well as dozens of firearms and customizations. Command your troops to victory or fight by yourself in the 3rd or 1st person action mode.
Conquer rural areas, factories, railway stations and towns during intense missions and use the environment to your advantage. Cover is everywhere, and almost everything can be destroyed. An unseen amount of challenges are awaiting you in exciting, yet competitive online combat supported by Steamworks!
Real-Time Strategy
Control several dozen units and place your squads in cover, flank your enemies and support your allies while advancing to the next key objective. Plant claymores, fortifiy FOBs, or set up mortar positions. There is an endless amount of options to choose in the RTS mode of Call to Arms.
1st/3rd Person Controls
Not only can you defeat your enemies as a commander, but also by taking over any of your individual soldiers. You can control them in 3rd person view, as well as first person. The game has no limits!
Tanks
Take over one of your vehicles at any time and join the heat of combat during intense tank warfare! Call to Arms offers you the ability to control every single unit to the last bit, including the type of ammunition you can use to take out enemy targets.
Helicopters
If you need that little bit of extra fire power, then hop into a helicopter and support your allies in online matches with some serious air support that leaves no room for escape!

fun fact: the reason the german soldier in that meme was firing short bursts on the 50cal is because he is used to the MG3, where if you hold down the trigger for 3 seconds you send 25 rounds down range as opposed to the M2’s abysmal rate of fire

Both are good. M2 is made to directly take out targets while MG3 is more of an area denial weapon.

To address the part about the Spetsnaz ; It's the contraption of a Russian word meaning " specialist ", by that word understand special forces, basically. There's many units included understand the Spetsnaz designation, including units from the army, navy, air force, but also Ministry of Interior, Border Guard, Customs, so on.

There are some "Spetsnaz" units, like the 45th Guards Spetsnaz. Spetsnaz only means "Specialized", so like Recon units, Marines units, Airborne units, would all be "Spetsnaz" as they're trained for a particular operation.

Fair, I was thinking of the 45th myself, but the SSO would also be Spetsnaz, but arent even called as such, but yeah, Spetsnaz is just an umbrella term I thought correctly then?

45th Guards has been all but wiped out in Ukraine - no longer needs to be in the game!

The unit in full strength is now based both in the main deployment point and partially in Belarus, and individual detached platoons continue to participate in the operation (Yes, there were losses, but this is a military operation, but again they were not destroyed, and certainly their losses were not critical.))

@@2Danila1 the 45th Guards was almost entirely wiped out. Not a battalion, the entire Brigade. Visual evidence proves this.

I enjoy that the mod does effect the campaign, but it really shines in Conquest. Some of the new/modified units are great, for example they added the French Leclerc and Korean K2 Panther to the "totally not United Nations" faction. The sound effects are great, and personally I like the redone music they added. I also really enjoy that armor battles are less slugfest, and waiting for the A.I. MBTs to run out of AP so you can ignore them. Vanilla tank fights sorta just went on forever, seemed like neither tank could pen frontal armor at all, even ATGMs felt useless. Now even a Bradley IFV can get a lucky shot on a tank, and personally I love that. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I quite enjoy the Warfighter mod.

yes this mod is extremly good. like 1st and 3rd person. Gun manipulating. new vehicles new tanks etc. moders made great mod

Cool that you're coming back to CtA. Will you also play modded missions or MP? The WF mod is really cool and there are other cool mods out there and I personally would love it if you'd come back to CtA and do a lot of ceontent like the old times. Not the game just got forgotten.

@@theShermanator The are ones that have their own gamplay modifictions or added stuff like the Vietnam or UAF mod (you said you would do this in the future. There even is an Afghanistan mission). The mod: Call to Arms: Rise & Fall ACT 1 is one that will work with the WF mod bc it's just missions.

It does? Maybe so, but CtA is far behind GoH in every other respect, CtA has been a game in my library since I backed it in like 2013-2014 and it still has no voices :/

Would love to see your impression of BigOlCritty's realism mod. A lot of the same stuff as Warfighter, and the Reworked Factions mod (Basically just improving AI, weapons, and squad compositions). But it ALSO includes new factions, HUGE maps, and increases to weapon ranges and lethality. Tanks, for example, are operating at 1000+ meters, as well as helicopters and ATGMs, where even rifles can fire effectively at 300+, with everything else in between. If you've ever wanted the exact middle point between CtA vanilla and Combat Mission, this is as close as I've found.

When i played CTA. my thoughts are that id rather play my modded MOWAS.... but this mod and rex's realism changed everything on how i view and play this game. it made it more challenging and realistic. the best part of this mod is the penetration values... I like how the apc's can pen AFV's on their weakspots

100%, CtA was shit when it released, other than the fact it usd 64-bit and had 1st person, now its alright with a lot of mods, AS2 is still amazing tho

@@theShermanator I also like playing fog of war and CtA disappointed me. It was such a breather when GoH:Ostfront fixed alot of things that is wrong with CtA. It makes me think that somehow CtA was launched broken and the devs got lazy from fixing it. AS 2 is so old but its still one of my favorites Sadly, most modders migrated to GoH:Ostfront now. You make good content on RTS games hope to see you playing the new Men of War II when it comes out i heard its underway right around the corner

What really kills the vanilla game for me is the Armour models damage. Sometimes you can be shooting them for hours and they will not go down. I'll give this mode a try to finish the rest of the campaigns.

I would love the conquest mode IF the maps were bigger....like in GoH...and the spawn points were random...because...the enemy spawning in...is always the same...

Honestly, hitpoints on vehicles makes more sense than one would think. Unless its a catastrophic ammo explosion(which this game does not model at all), a vehicle can take many hits and not be destroyed. Though you hit tanks with a big enough shot in a weak enough area and you do tons more damage vs shooting into it's thickest armor. What has Warfighter done to the AI? That is by far my no1 biggest issue with CTA, is just how absolutely utterly and completely useless the Ai is.

What I truly want is *stable 64 bit* men of war assault squad 2, I wonder why they haven't made it yet, people would buy it even though it's something that should be an update, is there a legal reason behind it? Like the engine's right is owned other company or something.

Well they wont remake AS2 in 64-bit, that's what Gates of Hell is I think.. since they can make more money off that, the AS2 developers are now assisting the GoH developers as well as publishing GoH.. so I expect to see like 3-4-5 more factions, USA, UK, Italy, MAYBE JAPAN, though sadly doubtful.. maybe Poland/France, we'll have to see

I supported Call to Arms and then the devs abandoned it out of nowhere far before its features were polished/complete enough. The concept and the gameplay was solid but it needed so much extra polish that it never got. Not going to support that company anymore.

Because after Battlefield 1 and Verdun came out in 2016, people crave for more WW1 and WW2 games, so the devs decided to jump along with the hype to make Gates of Hell (basically another WW2 themed Men of War game)and Call to Arms were left unfurnished in the end.

@@theShermanator mowas2 is good gameplay just like call to arms, but after completing a countries missions, the other country missions are just the same but with different skins, so thats pretty bad, i feel robbed. Gates of hell is so bad, i only fckedup my money and time with that one

they had very cool idea with this mod and completely f***d it up - there are no firefights, its shoot, shoot, over. Firefights dont last longer than literally 5 seconds. Very unrealistic and destroy whole purpose. Thats almost always problem with mod and modders - whilte trying to fix or 'imrpve' stock game they almost always go overboard, mods just lack balance, something that could really be fixed with common sense. The same issue was with arma series since its beginning, but other way around - devs goes to extreme with everything and modds like ace KINDA fix things. For example in arma 2 ai was extremely sluggish and very easy to kill in cqb, and with arma3 ofc they had to go to another extreme and made ai shoot you headshot in 0.1s after seeing you and dont even take any time to aim...

There is a submod for this mod that extends engagement distances, firefights taking place at long range usually last as long as they do in Robz. But yes in general CQB engagements both in this mod and in vanilla don't last very long.

CQB firefights with less than 100 metre ranges don't last more than 5 or 6 seconds either. Take it from a brit that's served in ghan. If you want realism we would be sat for 8 hours firing pot shots from fucking miles away.

@@jacobdoughty3528 Yep. I think he's used to Men of War where the CQB engagements last a little longer because there are more bolt-actions/semi-autos. CQB where every combatant is armed with atleast an AR doesn't last nearly as long.
