We’ve got a double-barrelled hunt this week as Mat Manning sets his sights on grey squirrels and rabbits on two different permissions. The shooting is tricky in bright, windless conditions but Mat shows how to use fieldcraft to put quarry in the bag during tough summer sessions.
On the test bench this week is the Walther LGU. This German-made underlever is regarded as one of the finest out-of-the-box spring guns on the market - tune in to see how it fares on our review range.

Good timing on the Walther LGU as I'm just now shopping for another springer air rifle, but I do want an under lever model. I bought a Terrus earlier, and am totally impressed with that rifles build quality and shooting accuracy, ( as long as I can keep up,...which is half the fun) It would seem , so far, that Walther is a name I can buy with confidence. That was good shooting in the first portion of this week's video,..thanks for this one Mat.

I`ve had the Walther Master Pro .177, it couldn`t touch my TX, Pro Sport or HW 97K all, also in .177.

Recently new subscriber, and I have to say keep up the great work. Content is great. The video quality is excellent. You do a great job on telling everyone what is happening. And the editing is superb. I love that fact that you are not scared to say things like they are. I love the fact that even though you live in a country where access to firearms is WAY different than here in the US. Some of the comments made in the videos, frankly are nothing more than unproductive. I will never understand why if someone is NOT a fan of a certain activity why they even watch the videos. Either way keep up the great work. There are many people who enjoy your videos.

I wonder how a reversed pellet would do in a rifle like that. worked great in Daisy 880. So much more damage to any target. Living or standard targets.

I’ve hunted all my life but there’s one animal I could never kill. Rabbits. I see them all the time. I just think they are so lovable if you happen to catch one and keep it for a day or two and release it. I would never shoot one.

They dig holes in pasteur fields that horses and cows step into and break their legs. If you've had to put your horse down because of a rabbit hole, yeah they're cute, but they're also pests.

Always a pleasure to watch the show. Such a shame that not everyone appreciates the time and effort that go into making it. I don't find the product placement too intrusive. It is part of the modern world that we have to accept or we wouldn't have a show to watch! I like the LGU but I already have a (23 year old) TX200 that still produces groups like that at 30 metres so I don't need one. I'd still like one though. Any chance of a review of the Kral NP02 any time soon. Looks interesting, very compact. Thanks again Matt for an enjoyable video.

I did ask a question on a previous video about an article in airgun shooter 109 about smells if you take the precautions you suggest won t all that hard work be for nothing because of the smell of the oil used on the gun I use Brownings Legia spray and it does leave a lingering smell

Hi Matthew. That is a really good point, and certainly one worth considering. I would go as far as to change to another oil if the smell is really noticeable. I use Parker Hale Gun Oil most of the time, and it doesn't have much of an odour. All the best. Mat

Very enjoyable episode Mat, nice to see you ambushing rabbit, I've been doing the same and some days are fruitful whilst others are sadly not. That Walther has come dangerously close to me re-evaluating my want for an AA Pro Sport, and the Walther LGU Underlever also comes with a very nice beech stock that puts the price under £400. what's not to like?. /simon

Unfortunately the UK limits the amount of power allowed to some 600fps, so a hide will be a very good idea!

Here in America we have ticks and things we call chiggers. Nasty little almost microscopic bugs that burrow I to the skin and itch horrible. Are ticks and such an issue across the pond? Just curious.

The LGU looks good but the recoil looks harder than your claim. I have a LGV with a recoil that allows a pellet in the top turret to only move about 1 mm when the gun is fired. Can the LGU do that?
