Met someone who knew the map well and helped me and my friend link up. went on an adventure only for him to later kill himself with a knife. 10/10 first experience

First tip: Get used to weapons.. Me: literally can't find water or a single item and dies 5 times in a row :S

Dayz has kept my awake at night laying in bed thinking about what crazy adventure I'm going to head off on tomorrow, or keep me up all night worrying about if I'm going to log back on and have no base, no friends, and no gear.

He’s totally right about meeting new players. Some random dudes invited my dad and I to a party. I was a little experienced, but it was my dads first time playing. These super geared dudes helped I find each other claiming that they had never had a mission so noble as reuniting a father and son, gave us both no sins and other guns, gave my dad NVGs, me an SG5. Had a great time playing until we got into CQC in Elektro.

Being friendly should be number 1 it makes dayz, dayz. I remember I got dayz and had only been playing for 2 weeks and I met someone talked to them nice then some stuff happend within their preexisting group so I picked to go with these two guys with some nice stuff and a huge base. That was the start of a 2 year relationship playing with these guys. Best memories I have of gaming has been with them and the worst. Dayz will give you friendships you'll never get anywhere else.

i met one of my best friends when i was streaming this game and had like 3 viewers, met up with him and now 2 years later he’s about as close to a brother as you can be without being blood

Made way hours north through the mountain trails not realizing that I had been being stalked by a pair of wolves. I heard a howl in the distance and went the opposite direction of it but they were on me.. attacked from behind, I didn’t even hear them approaching till I was bit. I unloaded my .22 into one and two from my revolver into the other. It had been such a long time of quiet wilderness that when the first gunshot rang out it actually startled me a little. They got me really good. though I managed to stop the bleeding just in time and passed out. I faded out of consciousness probably a dozen times. stranded helpless on the mountain next to two wolf corpses for what felt like forever. I was able to start sipping water between blackouts and eventually was staying awake a little longer till I could cut the bush down next to me and start a fire to keep myself from freezing. When I was able to move again I skinned and quartered those two and had wolf steaks next to my fire to recover my strength. Couldn’t believe I made it out with my life. Wish I could have taken their hides with me to tan and make into gear.

These tips have saved my life

I'm friendly and almost never get attacked. The key is seeing the other player first and talking to them with confidence. If they track you down, they are likely to attack before you can establish anything.

Tip 1 play modded servers only. Official is a shit show 3 hours to find one gun with no mag and no ammo.

I was so lucky to meet a fraction who doesnt KOS and is very nice. They usually help people out. They helped me set up a base and have saved my life a few times. I appreciate them, they arent supporting me a enough to where I rely on them but they support me enough to help me out if that makes sense. In return for their help when I go out exploring I tell them if I see bases or any type of people. They are lit af, they killed the spawn killers that kept spawn killing my friend. We had only been playing for an hour or two a day for 2 weeks.

Over 400 h on the game and i never killed a player. Been killed a lot.

I’ve been watching a lot of Day Z content lately and I only just found out it’s on Xbox game pass so I’ve been trying to learn more about the game before I start playing this video really helps with my understanding about the game

As a complete noob to the game with 10 hours as you mentioned this is a brilliant guide thank you!. Being on a Xbox just getting use to the controls alone takes time. Loot run and knowing map is what I have struggled with - running out of food because walking too far is very easily done while getting lost.

Got the game in 2015. At the time i was playing like 6 hours a day, it was my favourite game, it still is. Took a break, and sometimes i hop on, shits not the same. I miss the old days taking over mishkino milly tents with a 15 man army. Playing solo is so different, i would call myself a veteren player. And still die 10 times before i have a good run. I remember the first time meeting a dude in cherno which led to him showing me the way to the NWAF, FIGHTING our way trough vibors milly base just to get seperated by a 6 man squad with glitched m4s. Then buying a server and dupping items with the server restart glitch. Builing a base outside the map above mishkino. Dayz is just amazing.

I started playing a day ago and when he got to number 2:dont fall in love with your gear I realized i could lose it all in one go

First time I played it the other day *I was held at gunpoint by 2 guys fully geared they took me to a shed tied me up, put a sack over my face/head and fed me human meat and let me go I thought I was okay until I basically died of sickness* since then I just lurk in the woods picking off people

I think the biggest tip is just being patient. DayZ is a game that takes commitment. Learning from your previous experiences is a huge part of the game.

I’ve watched some Dayz videos for years just decided I wanted to pick it up 6 or 7 months ago. Had to wait for a sale when I didn’t have to pay too many bills. So I just got to download it last night and play some today. First time spawning in is quite difficult. Dayz has a skill base like no other game

I miss this game I remember having a huge crew and half of the airfield as a huge base just servers always eventually go down or players leave it was incredible having a community of 20 players

Just started in Dayz and first life ended with me being crowbarred to death. 2nd life, I spawn next to another new spawn, we quickly make a truce and he proceeds to bring me through most of the basics of survival, makes sure I’m decently kitted, then commits suicide right before server restart and tells me to take what I want from his corpse. Great guy, had a blast and learned a ton.

My Tip #1 : Stop Running unless you have supplies

1st day playing after years of witnessing others' stories. I've died 4 times in 4 different ways but I'm still having fun learning the mechanics and admire the difficulty of just staying alive.

when i started playing, took me and my friend 2 weeks to JUST meet up, without gear or anything.

I can personally attest to the first tip you provided, "master the weapons". I tend to be like hyper conservative with ammo but this actually got me killed one time when I had a shotgun that appeared to be fully loaded with shells. A wolf comes along and I shoot at him, first shot misses. I line up another shot and I hear "click". I'm like uhhhhh what? I hold R... nothing happens. A life or two later I realized the difference between holding R to load weapons to begin with and just pressing R to reload.

Just bought this game the 3d time i spawned in i finally found alot loot in seconds and died short after because I couldn't get the raw chicken on a long stick 😅

8 year veteran, over 1,500 hours logged, and I still enjoy watching these beginner videos. Sometimes I pick up new tips/tricks, because this game is always updating and changing, so you gotta be actively learning to stay sharp. This is true about life in general, too.

Use the Izurvive map. it tels you where the wells are. also fruittrees and so on. also. use drybacks. fill them with some loot and food and burry them with a shovel or pickaxe. If you spawn near Skalisty, try a swim to the island. you find hunter cloting and gear. also a well, chicken, fishing rods and fish . if you are full of food and a nice tundra or blaze, take of inland.. Tulga, MSTA, Staroye, Stary Sobor, VMC, Northwest airfield Tizy. If you make it, you are a bad ass mother F. with a M4 or a AK-m. have fun :)

I honestly understand the lost part haha once I ran through the forest for a good 30mins to an hour only to just end up back around my spawn area .. I never knew how hard it was just to navigate around the map (ps4 player)

I would add to learn how to navigate, always carry a compass, it’s so easy to get turned around especially at night and/or in a forest. Great tips mate

great video! I am a noob player who has less than 2 hour game time in Dayz and thats only because i was with a friend who was helping me. Not played since because i am over whelmed with everything you have to learn! From crafting a knife and finding food and weapons, to avoid being killed by Z's and other players and everything it comes with. Makes me so nervous to play alone but i know i need to do it as its only way i will eventually learn all i am needing to play my style. Great tips, think id be a friendly at first, but fear i wont be given the chnace much when i meet other players...kind of a kill on sight to what i see most times lol

Awesome tips. As for tip #4 I was lucky enough to find someone on some tracks as I was starving. I only had around d 2-3 hours under my belt.They helped me out and included me i there group while showing me the ropes. I prop would have given up at the inventory system if not for them

I’ve been playing for a week now and yesterday I made it the furthest from the coast I’ve ever been , a satellite station just beyond a town called Gorka. I found some really dope gear and definitely fell in love lol I had a military backpack that was full of just ammo and guns and was also carrying some valuable loot. I ended up dying of hunger but as I was dying I took off my bag and dropped it in a bush ..did the same with my pants , jacket and vest in some other bushes. I’m currently 2/3 my way back to see if I can recover my stuff but am having doubts. Even if it’s not I’ll just continue from that point and head further in.

I gotta give it to you these are very true tips ive been playing for 1year on dayz and all of these tips you will learn in a few days maybe weeks

i remember my friend and i were freshies running around and i had a shotgun and i snuck up on a dude who was stacked and I didn't shoot him (had no ammo). He thought I was friendly since i caught him off guard and respected me for not shooting. He invited my friend and I to his group and they gave us soo much loot and taught us how to play the game. how 1 subtle detail changes things, those guys were awesome im glad i had no ammo at that point.

Thanks for prefacing that this list applies mainly to non modded or slightly modded servers. I play on console so mods are not an option for me. Glad to hear from someone who more supports the standalone version of the game instead of mods

First time playing today. Had a guy who played for a while help me out after he saw i was walking around in the dark like a moron. We traveled up north for a long time. We somehow had a hard time finding food. He built me a fire and sharpened some sticks. He talked to me about how to do some stuff. He made sure i understood. We were starving. He told me too follow him to the cliff and put his body to good use. He said “good luck buddy”. He killed himself. I still hear my characters stupid laugh.

My tip for DayZ is dont be too friendly, I play DayZ like when it came out, Like without any Mods and without any Cars back then and the M4 was spawning in Police Stations and the movement was different Glitches were easier... try to be friendy but when your feeling says its not a good idea to interact with this kind of players just runaway then... Most of time they gonna shoot you in the back or want you to be dead, that is my (Experience in DayZ but not everytime)

The “Rearmed” servers are really good, lots of KZfaq videos coming out on them which are bringing in people who just bought day z to play that server to all levels of experienced players. It’s awesome, I love it, I’d recommend trying it

“Try to learn the mechanics of your weapons” Me : violently poking with a stick

Things I found in under 10h of playtime; Scythes are absolutely useless as weapons. Use a pickaxe instead if you want a one-shot melee against undead freaks. Even an orienting compass is incredibly useful, because we all know what regular compasses look like, so we can fill in the blanks. In my *personal experience,* that bottom right island has guns and ammo, but make sure you have a campfire ready to go once you hit land or you will probably freeze to death. Chernogorsk is a massive city, but don't let that trick you. It has trash loot 99% of the time. Military bases usually spawn guns, but are hot areas for looting and pvp. Still a good area to run by, especially if you're on a modded server that shows trader locations, as you can sell your un-needed weapons and ammo When you do sell stuff, make sure you unload mags and disassemble guns first to maximize that cash. Traders also tend to accept cars, so do the same with a car. Take it apart, sell it and its parts. Maybe you'll be able to get an upgrade, or some nice cash if you like walking. If you want to keep your stuff, go around gunshots. If you have no map in-game, use a second monitor or mobile device with a map up. You can tell where you are by entering a new city and looking at your top left corner for your location. Without a compass, use landmarks to find where you're going. Find the town you're in, and look for roads that go towards your next destination. I'll try to update this as I play more, but that's my guide that I made from 10 hours of standalone. DayZ Mod knowledge doesn't really carry over because it's an entirely different experience. Good luck, y'all.

The cooking and hunting is a good point Six. I think the PVE is a really important thing to master because you may be able to run up to Stary but then notice that you´re out of food, you´re freezing because you wanted to wear booty shorts and you´re sogging wet because you watched SixMacs on youtube (and went swimming in a pond). i just got into playing it yesterday, first 4 tries i got killed but i ran into a couple ppl who were pretty nice, they didn’t talk but we just jumped and went our own ways without any problems

I have about 1,500 hours in this game over 8 years, and I still greet the world with a friendly "howdy, would you like to trade?" You'd be surprised how many veterans of DayZ are willing to give a genuinely friendly player a chance. Of course, if you just yell that you're friendly, but have a gun out and moving to a position of cover, that's sketchy af, and expect to be gunned down, even by me. Best thing you can do is press F1, and do the Q+E wiggle dance (you know what I'm talking about) while standing in the open. This is pretty much a universal sign of real friendliness in DayZ, as you're taking the first step of trust. You will still get killed occasionally, because some players are just too scared or stupid to reciprocate friendly contact. Another thing us veterans really miss are the days where we hear, "Hands up." Used to be people would get the drop on you, and rather than kill you, they simply restrain and rob you blind, and if you were a female character, force-feed you their rotten zucchini or bananas, lol. They'd often leave you naked and handcuffed, which is fine, because you can always break free and you've retained the food and water you already consumed, which is better than starting as a fresh spawn. Very few bandits these days are actually bandits, but rather psychos - the KoS kiddies. Bandits in DayZ are about as rare today as heroes in DayZ, so if someone tells you, "hands up" in DayZ, do it. They probably have you dead-to-rights, and the fact they haven't killed you yet is a good indication they're an old-school bandit that will let you live, and maybe even just rob you a little, leaving you with most your gear.

Need all the help I can get. I die every 15 min from spawn. Either from hunger. Exposure all that shit stuff. I have to use modded servers just to get by for a while. Vanilla servers need more stuff

Get yourself a fishing rod. Pond carp are as good as animal fat. If u can't find a fishing rod, make one with long stick and rope, can't find rope?combine 2x6 rags. Cut up clothe items to make rags. Harvest food from zombies, try find a pickaxe for easy zombie kills, fireaxe is a decent 2nd weapon. Use vitamins beforehand to eat raw food and drink unfiltered water, pond water etc, saves time cooking. Knife is imperative when first spawning for food, if u can't pick one up use a pickaxe or sledgehammer to mine stone to make a stone knife, use this to make fishing hooks from chicken bones, worms from ground etc. Fish, animal fat, strawberry jam, baked beans and peaches are decent food items, items like sardines, fruit, chicken breast will pretty much only keep your food level at a standstill for about 5 minutes. Eat animal fat and you will forget about food for at least 30 minutes. If u find vegetable patches when first spawn,pumpkin, tomato etc, fill your inventory up with them and use them to head to the nearest town inland for more chance of finding items that haven't been snayched up by freshies. Use a bottle or canteen to drink rather than hands, alot quicker to fill your stomach. Drink until full up stomach sign appears before moving on. 2 bottles of water or 2 canteens is enough for this. Get your food sorted as priority and go about playing the game however u play it.

Tip 2 is what I was hoping to hear. Runescape you get so invested in your gear that losing it is EXTREMELY hurtful.

I didn't know that sliding down on ladders can damage your hands. I almost bleed to death with good loot.

Then you told me about "don't fall love with you gear" my bag glitched up on a roof top with ak47's and all my inportent stuff....

Step 10 - be good at shooting guns. Great tip 10/10. Couldn't have got there on my own.

In my first hour of gameplay I was stabbed, starved, starved, killed by a zombie and then died from exposure. Time to learn what I'm doing wrong :D

I met my best friend on dayz. He was being friendly to me so we went on to live in the wilderness with a tent and a fire. We then logged on one day to find two people looting our stuff. They killed us.

Your first tip is the reason I like playing modded servers when guns are easy to find and I do exactly what you said and just shoot the guns to get the recoil and aiming down with the guns in case I do find a good gun in a community servers
