Thank you so much for this. How would these 5 vary with an older subject. Where you have to account for skin creases and wrinkles. Thank you.

What lighting setup (product names) were you using on this shoot?
@peeweebarney
@peeweebarney 2 жыл бұрын
For creases and wrinkles, use a large softbox, or if you have only a small softbox, bring it closer to the face. Then add a white reflector to the opposite side (or another softbox instead of the reflector). Harsh lighting is okay for faces with perfect skin, and soft lighting for imperfect skin. .

What really differentiates this from the other videos is that you used a continuous light-source instead of a strobe, and you focused just on the lighting rather than taking each photograph. That makes it easy for us to visualize how the lighting changes as you move the reflector around, and see the changes in real-time. Very well-done!

Great lesson on basic portrait lighting. All too often people try to explain basic lighting by using more lights than a rock concert and confusing and scaring the newbie. Get the single light poses down and see how to change from one to the other and you have a solid base upon which you can build up the complexity.

You're a cool dude JP, thanks for this. You might want to cover controlling the light in these different setups. Gridding, flagging, spills etc. Every setup has it's own challenges regarding to light positions, studio space and the types of background (luma and hue). Back in the time when I was starting with photography, this stuff gave me headaches. A complete tut on this topic could be pretty useful to the community. Cheers

Notice what he is using here? Dollar per dollar any fool can learn this in 20 minutes.Give this guy a $20 LED ring light and Canon T1i the result would be he would not be able to even take 1 single shot. These "Pro's" rely too much on their full frame $5000 cameras and $2000 strobes, not enough using their brains. Any of this information can be learned in a matter of hours, but good luck getting the equipment required to actually use this information properly. All these techniques were made and designed around an expensive setup, never really meant consumer equipment.

Absolutely enjoyed this video! Went through these portrait lighting setups in class today, but you made them so much more enjoyable. Those were some fancy dance moves at the end :-) Be well and stay encouraged!

Thank you for the video. I like how you showed where to position the light and model. As a visual learner, I was able to immediately see how the light positions change with the split screen (half with the model up close, and the other half with you moving the light around), instead of me having to "imagine" how the light would look.
@TheSlantedLens
@TheSlantedLens 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Angela. Yes, that split screen really helps show the details of the lighting. Thanks for watching!
