Well I know it's been two years since this video was made. but I just wanted to say very nice video. I'm glad that you changed your mind about front wheel drive cars.. I love my Honda dc2 type RX I would never sell it. I've had plenty of people throw me offers for her. buts she is mine not for sale😂. Feel bad for the people that got rid of there's. They'll never know what they had.... I've always been an admirer of the Honda Integra Type R since 1995.

My 1994 Integra GSR is the funnest car I’ve ever owned. I’ve owned numerous cars... 2013 Corvette, 2009 Bullitt Mustang, Camaro, Civic, Probe, Ram 2500 Cummins, etc etc etc. This Acura although not a Type R, is a pure fun driving machine. I have owned my Integra GSR for five years and I will never sell this car! I enjoyed driving my Integra so much, I sold my 2013 Corvette because the Integra made my Corvette seem boring. People just don’t get that you don’t need HP and speed to have fun!

People who were around in the 90's know. Sometimes the fastest and best cars aren't the most fun. The Integra and the fun civics of this era just had a certain element of joy to them that are almost impossible to beat. It sounds stupid to say, but the first generation Neon also had that joyful driving experience to it (despite kinda.... maybe... definitely, being a giant POS in virtually every other way.)

But that's really not the point. A lot of other 1.8 - 2.0 cars had the same or more power in '99-2000-2001. It's not about the power with this car, like he said, they completely revised everything within the chassis and suspension. It's also about when it makes the power, just like my 2001 AP1 S2000 did with 240hp. The only way to drive it staying way at the top of the RPM range and driving it like a race car. And it rewarded you better than any other fwd sport compact car I can think of.
@Daveyboy_GolfR
@Daveyboy_GolfR 3 жыл бұрын
@@_TheElMan yeah but sadly we never got the Civic type R in NA. For us the Integra type R was only true stripped out special edition race car for the road during that time. Not sure if you're from the UK or other part of the world that got these vehicles but over the last two decades, we've been quite envious of all the super limited, ultra stripped down pure little racers that never came here. We missed the original and earliest evos and Imprezas like the 22b and the tommy makkinen EVO VI, the escorts cosworth, and the MK 1 and MK 2 focus RS. the Peugot gtis, astras, cupras, meganes, etc are also vehicles we've never received. Many manufacturers had an elite ultra high performance version of there already more mass produce high performance hot hatch or sport compact, like ones that I mentioned, but we never got them. Same deal today with the Gr Yaris, I30 n, and the new model fiesta ST etc. Oh well I'm just venting LOL. Maybe you're from North America also who knows.

My younger brother used to own one. It was pretty good tbh. Edt: To elaborate, thanks to the vtec you don't have to rev the beans out of it , but you can, and you want to. Below vtec it drives like a fwd E30 320i, above Vtec it's a fwd E30 M3 evo. Except you have a panoramic forward view, and no sound deadening compared to the german. It' a car that is fun even at legal speeds, and still very easy to drive at non-legal speeds. It's as good as FWD cars will ever get. Edit2: Honestly, the E30 BMW's are closer to Volvo 240's than they are to Integra Type R's

Do you mean the production costs vs the MSRP? The '97-'98 ITRs didn't sell well at all. Most people didn't know what they were. They preferred the GS-R for the comfort features. Even insurance companies didnt know what they were. Rates were cheaper because they classified them as the RS model. '00-'01 was a different story. The Internet helped people realize what they were. Dealerships were able to mark them up. '01's sold very fast for a mark-up.

Zack, you and I shared the same mind set during our early days of getting involved with performance vehicles and thank you for sharing this. Today I drive a 2019 Audi RS 3 on fast country back roads much like Malibu Canyon roads I ran 1958-1973. But my vehicle of choice is certainly superior and my appreciation of such is likewise. Truly GREAT handling and performance automobiles today!

I'm gonna echo some things that have already been said. 1 Zack I was not a fan in the past, but whatever you did, well done. Much better presentation. 2 I'm not a big fwd guy but the ITR is one of the exceptions, it is an excellent machine. While I am still a RWD fanboy in general living in canada and owning my first AWD car recently has woken me up to the different kinds of fun you can have with different kinds of cars. Keep it up.

Great video Zack. I was stuck in the V8 RWD tribe for a long time until I test drove a Civic Si recently. There is something really great about a light car, that is quick and handles amazing.... and still gets good gas. Like you said, don't be close minded, almost all companies make good vehicles.

Great advice from Zack about brand loyalty. It's not bad to like or even prefer a certain brand, but don't close yourself to the possibility that there may be something out there you like more. Couldn't agree more, which is why I have an old Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and a newer Mazda 6 GT. The two couldn't be more different, but offer an enjoyable experience in their own way.

I was a service manager at a Honda dealership when these were new. I had a customer that bought one, he showed up in the service drive, told me to get in the drivers seat. The only thing he told me was,” take it to 9,000” Super rad car for sure. I had several built Honda’s including a ‘95 VTEC Prelude and a RX3 race car at the time. Thoroughly sorted from the factory.

I had the pleasure of owning a 1999 ITR DC2 here in Melbourne (Australia).... in which I clocked up 165,000 kms (from new) & enjoyed 13 track days during my 5.5 years of driving nirvana. I was utterly addicted to the VTEC scream of the B18C engine, the wonderfully slick gearbox, dynamic handling & complete package of Honda engineering. Even 17 years on & after driving many higher spec cars, the memories of the DC2 remain as some of my best driving experiences ==> If I had the means, I would buy another one anytime!

I am a Ferrari fan, but learnt over the years to respect other manufactures such as the Acura NSX, both original and new version, and what they have brought to the industry over the decades. happy to say, I'm waiting for the new MDX TYPE S to be released and have my order in place to be one of the first. Wow Zack, fantastic review dude. Especially near the end of the video. I resonate so much with this. I was born and raised outside of Detroit, muscle city. All I wanted was a muscle car and I thought tuners were stupid. Fast, big body V8s are king. Then I moved to the east coast and got more involved in the tuner scene. I have changed into enjoying something more agile than brute force, straight line power. Does it mean I hate muscle cars now? NO! But like you said, every manufacturer has good and bad. I was the first one in my family to get a Japanese car. Everyone was skeptical, but now everyone loves it and wants to drive it haha. Good review again Zack.

Great review and thank you for your honesty. Honda Type R cars are just special. I missed out on the Integra Type R the first time around and fixed that 20 years later with my FK8 Honda Civic Type R and this car is a keeper! You hit the nail on the head about Honda cars engineered to last. I'm not going to modify my car, just keep it stock. What parts I do get will be OEM and I am just going to maintain it, keep it clean and enjoy it. Muxh respect for Honda for making manual masterpieces like these. These cars are just going to be rarer and more sought after as time goes on.
