Some folks may not be old enough to remember, but Toyota used to be incredibly adept at building winning rally cars - which translated into excellent street cars. Now, nearly 20 years later, they are back with the GR Corolla, a rally-bred hatchback that is the most enthusiastic Toyota of this century. With a 300HP turbo triple, a fancy, configurable differential, an a six-speed manual as the only transmission, the GR Corolla is one of the most exciting cars of the year, never mind just being exciting for a Toyota. It lives up to its promise and more, as Zack and Matt demonstrate!
Toyota provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of gas for this review.

This isnt a Z06 or a GT3. No one who pays for those types of marks will be looking at a Toyota. Yeah they might have a mark up for a small while but when you compare the price of this with dealer mark ups to other cars in its price range the interest for this will quickly dwindle. I walked away from a 30k mark up on an Emira I ordered because no one with half a brain thinks that car is worth 130k (used gt3 prices) Same goes with this. At the end of the day its a souped up Toyota corolla and no one will touch this when you can buy a used M3/911 or whatever is in its price range with mark ups. 50k is already too much to 90% of people that have any desire for this car

I’ve had my Scarlet Flare GR Yaris Circuit Pack for three weeks and 750 miles now (after an eighteen month wait). And it seems that the GRC really is pretty much the GRY but a bit bigger. All the good things of my car carry over to the Corolla, and I recognise a lot of the same hardware both mechanically and internally. For me, being from Japan, I love to see Akio’s mission for Toyota of ‘No more boring cars’ coming to fruition with such aplomb. As no one doubts their ability to make competent and reliable cars (LFA!). And I’m proud to be part of that in a small way with my GR Yaris. Bravo Toyota!

I really love the chunky tires, so refreshing for a performance car. Comfortable, durable, light. Manufacturers always use giant wheels these days to compensate for bad body styling and sloppy numb cars. Makes it actually usable on mountain roads that typically have pot holes. 20" wheels and tires get bent and blown out constantly in the north east.

the Aussies have already begun proving the legendary performance and strength of this 3 cylinder (since they got the Yaris). They've pushed them to 500awhp with nothing but valve springs, cooling mods, and a bigger turbo, before the mls head gasket finally started getting pushed thru. 500 wheel, from a 1.6 i3. the ports on the heads are massive, the bottom ends are strong, it's got a reinforced block right outta the box, it's ridiculously overbuilt. I mean, it's making more specific output (power per liter) than the best 2gz-gte's with less done to it.

Why would you ever "order" a vehicle without signing a buyer's order & agreeing to a price, first? My guess is that you never ordered anything. You likely put down a blind deposit with a dealer & never talked about price, then complained when they got a car similar to what you want allocated to them & lost out on the car when it arrived & you tried to negotiate on a price. Don't ever give a dealership a deposit without agreeing on numbers first. Very simple process.

I picked up a Blue Flame GRC this past weekend out of state, 4.5 hours away. Paid 2.5k markup (Could've been waved if I traded in, but I don't think that's worth it). I have been searching since November, and had the oppurtunity. I could not say no. 100% worth that markup to me. Amazing car, and the Blue Flame absolutely pops. I'm still going easy on it for the break-in but I cannot wait to open it up.

Such a great car. It bothers me that the highlight box around Sport at 11:45 isn't vertically-centred on the word. It would also have been better if the battery wasn't so intrusive into the rear cargo area's space. Finally, the back seats are a bit tight. Otherwise, this thing is awesome and will be remembered as one of those cars you wished you had bought when they were available...

Great video and looks like a fantastic car. However the price of this and the rival hot hatches is becoming so high with ADM it puts them into the same bracket as used sports cars like the 997, M3, corvette etc. Which makes it kind of a hard argument especially when you know the dealer is probably going to pocket $10-15k.

It's infuriating for sure, but we just have to be patient. Just like these guys mentioned, I wouldn't pay anything more than $2-2,500k over sticker. Eventually, they will be sitting on dealer lots and at the end of the day, dealers want to move product.
@autofocuscarsvids719
@autofocuscarsvids719 Жыл бұрын
@@danielgladston1785 I think you're both right. I'm looking at it to ease the load of my daily, a Boxster S. But if it gets too expensive, I could always just get a GT350 or a Cayman S. I've seen dealers advertise $4,500 over sticker in the Facebook groups, so I am hopeful that I can pay a bit over sticker, leapfrog those who won't but still not really over pay for the car. 😬

The new-car warranty and reduced running costs of a Japanese car are about the only advantage over buying a used Porsche these days. Not so sure that the GR parts will be much cheaper, though. Labor for sure.
@danielgladston1785
@danielgladston1785 Жыл бұрын
@@autofocuscarsvids719 yeah it's just a waiting game. Right now, dealers are doing their best impressions of BaT and essentially auctioning cars off to the highest bidder. It's idiotic. I had a pending deal for $2,500 over sticker (purchase agreement signed) and just the other day my dealer called and told me someone was willing to pay $8.5k over and had the audacity to ask me if I would pay $10k over. I told them they'd have my business if/when they could honor the original deal. For me, this will be my only car so it needs to be able to reasonably handle daily duties. Although used Porsches and Mustangs are awesome, they make more sense as a second car.
@danielgladston1785
@danielgladston1785 Жыл бұрын
@@shaft9000 I think there's a lot more than that. Depends on if you need the extra practicality. Also depends where you live. I wouldn't want an older Porsche as my only car. Thing is going to be an endless money pit. The higher running costs can't be stressed enough. It's a massive difference in both parts and labor.

foot tilt is common in japanese drivers. also they really like left foot braking due to their tight tracks, thats my guess why it brake is closer to the clutch so you can quickly go from clutch to brake.
@anhiirr
@anhiirr Жыл бұрын
also growing up in that region/era of driving its a byproduct of gokart racing, or racing FF where left foot breaking is even more of a commonplace of generating a specific right foot/throttle style as well. A lot of racers that grew to be famous had to come up the ranks/classes and they were able to implement a wide variety of skills/techniques from car/class to class. Which definitely comes into play on a boosted awd vehicle and trying to go full out. Youll come to notice a lot more of these skills/instincts on these GR corolla vids bc so many drivers/pros havent even driven it before and are implementing their full "ability" to familiarize themselves with the cars full extent/capability. almost like a habit/comfort zone of operation.

I'm a fanboy and coupe guy and wanted to like the GR86 so much but I've heard bad things about that Subaru engine, meanwhile this Toyota three cylinder has proven itself stout. I've come to appreciate the Supra for bringing out the best in BMW. But I just love that this thing is pure Toyota, and built in that special factory to boot. I watch a Toyota mechanic channel called carcarenut and he says give Toyota the first six months of production to kaizen a new car and work out the bugs and it should be safe to buy after that. I hope to have the money in time for a late 23 or early 24. This is the Toyota for me. I hope to be parking it next to an RC-F.
