Very good video full of depth mate, well done. Being a lifelong Union supporter from east Germany living in Bristol, UK, videos like this make it easier to explain who we are to my british friends. However, there’s a few things I’d like to add: 1. Nobody sits on the Waldseite. In fact, barely anyone in the stadium sits. Bar the main terrace (which includes the press etc.), the whole stadium is standing only. We only have the minimum amount of seats as requested by the German football league. This will continue when the stadium gets bigger (then it’ll be just about 8000 seats). 2. I believe the main rival still is BFC Dynamo. Not just because of the history. Also because of the different political sides supporters tend to take. BFC have a more far right fan base whereas Union Berlin fans are drawn more towards the left. Personally, I still hate BFC the most, simply due to the horrible history of the East German dictatorship and BFCs role in it. Beating Hertha is nice. However, I don’t have an actual problem with them. The younger generation seems desperate to create that now. 3. You can’t forget to mention the history and politics of the club. The rivalry between BFC and Union was based on that and the memory continues until today. Before the wall came down, going to Union was a political statement. It was the only place where you could shout “the wall must go” without getting arrested. 4. Other notable players: I’d at least add Torsten Mattuschka. Club captain and legend, and still involved in the club. Kind regards. Und niemals vergessen Eisern Union!
