Just FYI Laith, Mountaineers get terrain bonuses on almost all types of terrain, not just mountains. They're basically better infantry, so you can use them for taking a variety of different things (and marines get massive bonuses against rivers). Also if you go into the war tab using the icon at the top that looks like an explosion and press call allies, it'll probably override their decision and force them into the war.

Bear in mind, when you set your troops to a fallback line, you lose many bonuses of a set full battleplan, and hinder your offense. Note: you do not have to click "go" on the battleplan, just setting it gives you offense and defense bonuses.

if you do the Czech railways focus and improve relations it increases the chances of them being annexed or puppeted when you do the demand focus.

If a nation is capitulated while in a civil war by an outside power it counts as if the side that didn't capitulate winning the civil war. The Soviets were in a civil war so you capitulating them made the other soviets win.

Austria Hungary I would say is my favourite thing to do in hoi4, a ton of fun.

I've got almost 1500 hours in Hoi Iv and my first successfull campaign where i got the two achievements as Austria-Hungary is the best experience i have in the non-modded game. As for moded, a joint first place is as the Enclave reborn for Owb (Old World Blues) where you go the M.O.R.O.N route to restore the US

I feel like they could have at least let Austria keep a strip of the littoral so they could have a coast. Incidentally Franz Ferdindand's sons (who couldn't inherit due to his morganatic marriage) spend WWII in work camps, but they did survive.

Size of focus tree does NOT equal focus tree quality.

The AI went with the communist opposition, and so started a civil war in the USSR. That civil war was still ongoing by the time you invaded. So when the USSR capitulated, the other side of the civil war automatically annexed them, meaning you couldn't take anything from the Soviets. It's very dumb, of course, but that's kinda how civil wars work in the game. It's also why mods usually just add a tag for each civil war faction, rather than use the internal mechanic the base game has.

I don't know if this strategy works or not but it used to be my go to to avoid war with germany over sudeten. 1. Set your game to non historical focuses. This will allow a greater chance for CZE to say no to sudeten 2. Make a spy agency and spy on germany so you can know when they do their focuses, always check them first (they need 1 day to pick a focus) and only then chose a focus. 3. Go down the AUH path. Improve relations with CZE, do the integrated railways in the meantime but do not protect CZE. 4. Once germany starts sudeten start the protect CZE focus, hopefully if you've done it well they will end up on the same day. Keep your relations with CZE positive, only then they will be annexed, if on 0 you will puppet them and germany attacks, if negative they refuse. Ideal scenario: germany completes sudeten, CZE say no, germany gets a CB, you complete the focus, CZE say yes, you annex CZE, german CB obsolete. I have to say it once more, this is an old trick, idk if it still works

It actually DOES say how much men you are in defecit. If you click on a land army icon on top right, below the time, and then move to the opened tab, theres a small button with picture of a list on the top right of said menu - it opens another menu which has your required manpower number, number of guns, number of manpower you have and etc.

There's an alternate reality out there where WW2 didn't happen because of Senor Hilter, but because Leith wanted to "get the WWI boys back together".

my advise is to use the improve relations option when you try to get something from a country, they will very likely accept

Top tip: You can place an army group frontline without them being seperated by army by shift-clicking when you place the frontline down. Saves me alot of trouble

Hey a few things one, if you shift click with a field martial it evenly spreads the units, two if you click on the army button by the world tention then click the top right button you can see how much manpower you are missing.

About the war with the Soviets They were in a civil war (Soviet Union vs SSSR) and you were at war with the Soviet Union, so when you capitulated them, it counted as SSSR's victory, so the annexed the Soviet Union.

Soviet Union was fighting a civil war so that war was pointless because all you did was help the other side of the civil war win and take over the country
