Here is a wonderful blue-blade classic ftom the early 70s: a KDK 16" oscillator. It has 5-way oscillation, a unique feature found in many vintage Japanese fans. Unfortunately this fan does have one major flaw which will require repairs before I can start using it. But since the rest of the fan is in great shape, I'll definitely keep it around with my fingers crossed that I'll someday find a solution.

Awesome fan. Real gem from the 70s. I think this and your 16" Solaray (sorry if I misspelt it) have the same blade.

You spelled it right! The shapes of the blades are indeed very similar. The shade of blue is different though, and so is the hub fixture that fastens them to the motor shaft.

Matsushita sold an electric fans in different markets and different models. This model was sold along with Panasonic "Magic Stop" fan in 1970s in North America. Yes, Panasonic and KDK is belongs to Matsushita, now known as Panasonic Corporation. So, I guess you have already 2 Matsushita fans in Canada, this fan and a Panasonic. In Indonesia, it still continued to using a metal blades, which I suspected to providing an high-velocity airflow. My 1983 30BWJ is one of example, even though mine is from 1983, it still bears the metal blade in 12 inch size. And yes, this is a same fan that sold in Australia under the 'Hoover' brand.

Appreciate the information! It sounds like Indonesia and nearby countries got better Matsushita fans for a longer period of time than North America lol. Metal blades on a 80s desk fan is pretty much unheard of here.

Superfan man that happened to me exactly the same eith a sanyo fan 16 inches from the 70s I got it here in UK and the delivery company wasn't careful and the blade was totally destroyed. Good luck my friend and I hope that you can find a similar replacement. Very good video !!!

Thanks! Darn, that must have been pretty bad! These 70s-80s rigid plastic blades do have the tendency to break if mishandled. It's unfortunate that many delivery companies don't handle packages with care.

That 5 way oscillation future is actually there for if you want to put the fan in a corner,these are good fans but when it comes to Japanese made vintage fans i prefer Hitachi only because Hitachi is easier to work on and service,im talking about the Hitachi fans made in the 60s to early 70s the metal ones i have one here on my channel,i also show the big motor and 2 oil ports on there

@@TheSuperFanMan yes great fan,i wish you luck fixing that blade,do you have any plan to fix it?
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan 7 ай бұрын
Yes I plan on fixing it. I'll wait until I come across a parts fan or a suitable replacement blade-set. If not, I might try to patch the broken blade with a clear blue plastic sheet that's been cut to shape.

@TheSuperFanMan

There is a plastic knob in the centre of the blades. It’s most likely reverse threaded, so turn it clockwise to loosen, and you should be able to take the blades off!

@@TheSuperFanMan Ah, mines a bit different. It is a KDK fan but the centre cap is gone (either lost or never there). And I don't know how to get the blades off otherwise
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan 2 ай бұрын
Huh that’s interesting. Does it have a set screw on the side of the blade hub? If not, it may be just press fitted onto the motor shaft, and it can simply be pulled off.
@levivlijm7571
@levivlijm7571 2 ай бұрын
@@TheSuperFanMan it does have a set screw but if I unscrew it it doesn’t do anything. Still can’t just pull it off.
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan 2 ай бұрын
Gotcha. There’s a good chance the blades are stuck to the shaft because of old oil residue or rust. Try spraying some WD40 where the motor shaft meets the blade hub. Wait about an hour before trying to pull it off. Gently tapping the shaft with a hammer helps too.

1970's consumer safety guidelines, I'm surprised the fan blades aren't made out of metal with sharpened edges.

I don’t think it’s possible to 3D print a perfectly transparent piece of plastic. Otherwise it would be a great option! A replacement blade will probably be the route I’ll take, though I may experiment with cutting a transparent blue plastic sheet to shape and bending it with heat to fit.

@@TheSuperFanMan As someone who collects old fans, This is true. unfortunately, i always get the Rusty, dirty and motor problems ones when it comes to that. I've always hate it when i got an old fan with super rusted grilles. Sanding them is pain and can create a mess. Even worse, i can't make em look like brand new again. For the motor problems? Ohoho i recently got a fan this week. One of the screws that holds the motor frame together have a stripped head and i have no access to it. Still trying to figure out how can i remove it without spending too much.
