I don't know to be impressed or upset with myself that i understand every reference and the conversation the two people above me just had. I always feel bad that the other captain had to die. The one thing that never made sense to me is, a universal translating device would totally be able to figure out a language like that even without understanding the references... No offence i love picard as much as the next trekky but Data would have been a better choice than picard as far as actually figuring out the language, because with ONE reference he can could translate the entirety of everything every recorded by any starfleet vessel not JUST what was heard on the planets surface

And yes i know they didn't "get to choose" they just beamed picard and the other captain down and put up the "no transportation" scatterfield (plot device so they cant use the transporters)

The best part about Picard is he's the best and is everything you want to be but he doesn't seem perfect. He isn't some Marty Sue who never makes mistakes but he does what he can to stand by his principles and you see the issues that it causes. He doesn't believe in bending the rules when it comes to some things but in others he's willing to ignore all those around him to do what he feels is right. It truly does make him the best Captain.

It is really his will to dominate his own shortcomings and make himself a better man that make me think he's far superior to Kirk. Kirk is only a guy driven by his passions eventhough he is capable of intellectual reasoning when time demands it. But he doesnt really change his behavior. Picards leanrs from his mistakes and moves on. Kirk is the teenager fantasy whereas Picard is the figure we all want to become as adults. And I personally agree with Wesley here, he would have made a good father, at least he is a good father figure.

@@Pilchowski01 Japan did the exact same thing everybody else was doing at the time and has been as civilized as everybody else since then, and Korea broke down but still managed to give birth to at least one developed nation, and it’s not so much technology than ideology that spoiled the other half, an ideology that poisoned even already semi-developed nations such as Russia, and that’s not even counting the fact that the southern half probably wouldn’t even have survived without foreign interventions, so those are actually good examples

Picard's absolute best moment was in TNG season 4, episode 2, "Families" - going home to his family vineyard in France that had been inherited by his resentful older brother, provoking his brother into a fight, rolling around in the mud, breaking down in tears, all to reconnect with his humanity and come to terms with the trauma he'd experienced at the hands of the Borg. In a franchise that tries to distance itself from the dark side of humanity, it's an uncomfortably honest look at PTSD and the horrors of war.

I think that comparing captains does not really work. they are all different and every show made them face unique problems that they had to deal with. The common denominator among Enterprise captains is that the universe will throw the hardest challenges to the Enterprise and her crew. they all will have to find ways of making the universe blink first...

This was a damn fine bio. Picard isn't just a fine example of a Starfleet captain, he is THE example.

Very well done very nicely thought out I am a huge Star Trek TNG fan and a huge Donald Pikard fan I absolutely agree with you that he is the best choice for the ultimate captain and leader of humankind.

For me this is Captain Picard: "They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! I will make them pay for what they have done!"

Keep in mind Picard goes against starfleet a couple times, he’s more of an example of a proper 24 century morale human being.

I love how this channel doesn't patronize fandoms while still keeping in universe the whole time. I just thought of that when they said "Other Worlds" in the end instead of fiction worlds and its just a atmosphere I really like.

Just me over here getting choked up by the biography of a fictional spaceship captain. Even if it turns out aliens don't exist, or warp drive is impossible, Star Trek is a vision of a hopeful future that we could absolutely have, and that we should be moving towards. Captain Picard is like the embodiment of what the Federation means as a whole, and is thus deeply aspirational.

Admiral. This will need an update, as long as the new character is great too. His decision meeting the romulans to ignore Riker and Word saved a war from starting season 1 of sttng. Absolute brilliance

I suggest a Dosier on Captain edward Jelico of the Star Trek franchise. He was in the episodes Cahin of Command part 1 and 2. A misunderstood Captain but an awesome tactician as far as I can see. Great channel!

I don't consider Picard to be canon. My canon is the post-Nemesis novels, where Picard is twice offered promotion to Admiral, but declines both times (the first as head of Starfleet's recovery efforts from the Borg War, the second time as head of Starfleet's exploration missions. He is tempted by the latter, and even considers it, but is ultimately content to remain Captain. However, when his activities involving Section 31 are exposed, his punishment is somewhat similar to Kirk's. He can remain captain of the Enterprise, but can never hold the rank of Admiral).

Please, can you do Coronel Jan Templar from the Killzone series? He was anything, to field soldier, to war hero, to leader of army, and martyr. It took all the cunning and special forces of space Rommel to take him down.
