you're looking at it the wrong way. There are tonnes of reporters that don't make sensationalist titles, and guess who reads them? Not many people. If tomorrow, this news outlet starts being honest, it will fall in rating, and another dishonest one will rise to the top. They do this because there's a demand for it. When was the last time you took your time to find a good reporter and went out of your way to promote or reward them? You start by: 1) having discipline to not fall for click bait; 2) taking your time to actively look for good journalism, not just passively wait for whatever comes; 3) rewarding good journalism with more than just clicks or views. If people do this, we will see less click bait and more content. But people would never see fault in themselves, they rather blame it on the media, who operates on the same law Rafael Nadal has stated - they are rewarded for what they were able to sell / generate.

During the years, I would see interviews with someone who learned English as a second language (or is in the process of learning it). Listening them answer in English and then in their native language is night and day. Obviously, this varies depending on the individual. My hat's off to people that can speak multiple languages as it is something I never had the opportunity to do.

Women just don't attract the same size audience. Rafa's example about modelling is a good one. Many women will buy clothes depending on who's modelled them, whereas men don't really care. A high profile female model could earn an organisation far more than a male model, so should be paid more accordingly. Female footballers earn less than men, but if their wages were the same, would as many people pay to watch them? Probably not. I personally think that male footballers are grossly overpaid, but if people pay to watch them play, then the demand is there. If their clubs try to pay them less then they'll move to another club. That's how business works.

I think "deserve" is the entirely wrong word here. You might "deserve" the same amount of pay for doing similar work. But if nobody wants to see you, thats irrelevant. If the customers decide what they want to see, they won't always honor those who did the best work. Thats just the way it is. You should of course always try to get rid of hurdles that prevent people from having success. But even if there are none left, not everyone will get what they "deserve".

If a female or male sport does not generate profits or generates less than the other gender, then it is unfair to charge more or less for being a man or a woman. If the WNBA was watched on the same level as the NBA, and its merchandising sold the same, then, and only then, should women earn the same as men. In the meantime, they don't. That WOULD be unfair. Good point pro tennis is the definition of capitalism and a meritocracy. Team sports has politics woven in but ultimately the multi billionaire who owns the team doesn't want to be a loser to satisfy some liberal kumbaya agenda. Professional sports is much more about viewership. Whoever can attract the biggest audiences gets paid more money. It was probably this way in Roman times at the collusseum! You could argue that sports organisations should push the women's game more and encourage people to follow women's sports more, but right now more people are interested in the men's side of the game. Same in football, same in golf etc

I am a woman and I totally disagree with equal pay in grand slam. It is a big joke. Men are playing so much longer. It is unbelievable that women are always mentioning equal pay when they know they are doing less work and bring less money to the sport.

The duration it is not the key point. It is the quality and the show of the matches the difference. Any top 100 ATP male wins any top 5 female tennis player. It is other sport.

the thing is that the unequal pay is not related to time on court rather than revenues. What about slam matches where men win in 3 sets in one hour and a half? should that player earn less because less time on court?.. the disparity of pay is completely based on sex and the fact that women's tennis generates less revenue. But since it gets less revenue and subsequently less money, there's less motivation than there is for men, so it will always be more difficult for women. It's a vicious circle.
