I think I will give this one a try. I used Vallejo Still Water before and it was a nightmare, like you said. I got cracks around the reeds of my pond. Regarding water falls I would use some clear plastic from blister packages. What came to my mind though was using this square as a nice window :-)

You gotta love blister packages, so many uses :o)WS is far superior to Vallejo, far less shrinkage mate.

Hello! Thanks for all your cracking vids, inspiring stuff. I just got a bottle of this for a dockside board. I paint my terrain with stuff I find in the b&q bargain/discount bin. I have a pot of valspar house paint that is the perfect colour for my muddy river. Is this going to work? The bottle says to use only their acrylic paint but that sounds silly to me. Ben

hey TT, have watched many vids, and learned much from you, especially the one about aerosol-spraying xps foam. am working on a diorama using foam for the 1st time, and had no problem w/the paint, since i knew what to do! so a question: i now want to add debris to my streets, and pour woodland's realistic water, making a murky funky mess. should i glue the debris onto cured water, or glue onto foam (w/elmer's) then pour. my concern is the water may not be able to self-level if there's lots of debris. thanks for everything..

With the fact that this never sticks to blue-tac and the like, have you ever tried to use it to cast smaller terrain bits for larger builds? What I mean by that is, I imagine you could take some bark or something and sort of impress it into a layer of blue tac, then gently pour in a thin layer of water effects just to get the texture, then use those pieces on larger foam builds to create rocky textures vs casting rocks with plaster, and then paint over them.
@TheTerrainTutor

I probably wouldn't use this for casting but it could be possible mater

This stuff looks like Liquitex Pouring medium for painters, pouring medium is an acrylic medium. I bought a bottle of 946ml (33oz) for $32.00. but this price was at a local store in a small town, so probably a high price, you could check out Hobby Lobby or Michael's and use a coupon. Just thought i would share, in case this price is cheaper, but not sure! It also dries extremely clear, and is flexible as well(depending on its thickness).

Thanks for the reply. The water was poured to a depth of approx 1/8 of an inch as stated on the bottle. The width of the layout is 16 inches and the canal runs in that direction.I have a road and rail bridge and I have poured the water in between,in other words three pours and I have notice this morning that the front is fine and the middle is slowly changing, but the rear is still grey..Is this normal ?.The layout is in a bedroom with no heating,other than what rises from the ground floor. Is any of this information helpful. Thanks. Graham Tandy.

After you pour it into the base can you then add reeds that will stand up and dry within it?
@TheTerrainTutor
@TheTerrainTutor 10 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't suggest it, it won't be sticky enough initially, so they'll fall over, by the time it is sticky enough, adding them could ruin the effect. Glue the reeds down with a dab of water effects first and once they've set, pour in the rest mate.

messing around with it. Got a messy finger in the end but the prize isnt so bad. making seawaves or fast moving water with these stuff is easy because it's not in a liquid form, it stays in the shape you put it. but making slow moving waters is quite challenging. These stuff is also cheap and easy to find. I got it just about 2 bucks in pretty much any store. Might you wanna try a vid of these and inform others? Thnx (hint, it sucks for slow waters but finally it looks like mud)

How tolerant is RW to water? I've heard it hates PVA with a passion and turns cloudy (apparently due to moisture) but you used water to apply the filler. So in certain cases such as with acrylics thinned with water (I'd guess it hates the proper alcohols) for basing with an airbrush or the likes of wetter clays, if they are left to dry completely then RW should not be impacted? Alternatively would sealing with Matt varnish before RW application just solve most of those problems?
@TheTerrainTutor
@TheTerrainTutor 7 жыл бұрын
It's fine with water, it just takes longer to cure and crackles more if the coat is too thin. The only issue with pva is blobs such as gluing tufts/reeds, so I use super/hot glue for those. A thin sealing coat of pva isn't an issue but matt varnish works well. I often don't bother an just paint then pour bud
@TheRiflemanUK
@TheRiflemanUK 7 жыл бұрын
TheTerrainTutor wicked, been hearing lots of conflicting information, so much so it's difficult to separate the old wives tales. The sort of scenery I'll be using won't have any vegetation in as in this case it's to represent a man made chasm which has recently been flooded so it was mainly the interaction with moisture if any parts hadn't dried I was concerned about. Cheers mate :)

Thing is, real open water doesn't look all that realistic from high up, since we perceive larger-scale features which have lower proper frequencies than we are used to from up close.

+Deipatrous got more information on that mate, seriously, looking to learn more mate
@DrWhom
@DrWhom 8 жыл бұрын
TheTerrainTutor I was on about the basic relationship between wavelength and frequency: longer waves are slower, and from high up you see much longer waves than usual and therefore the water's surface seems oddly gel-like or semi-frozen --- you do not get the glossy shimmering effect that this product seems to go for. That said, for the purposes of model-building, it is probably more to the point whether it _looks_ convincing, rather than representing the physics accurately.

Do you have to multi-layer if you want it deeper, or will it set ok with an inch deep?

"more liquidy, more viscous, more thinner..."??? viscous means it is thicker or syrup-like.

This is somthing that confuses me. terrain in gaming always goes for realistic representation. So why have tabletops screwed up water so badly ? I'm an airline pilot and flying all over Europe over the last 18 years. Not once NEVER have I seen a blue river or lake. Seas yes they are blue but the rest are a dark shade of green or black. they are too small or shallow to reflect the sky. we are great at cliffs and houses trees and bridges but no were have I seen a correct lake?

+MrBizteck It's more a case of going with the crowd because that's what's expected mate. I typically do mine green now, checkout the envirotex vid :-)

Yes, the color bothers me, too. I do very small (1/48 scale) ponds and streams, and mine all have muddy bottoms, embedded rocks and sand.
