Van Helsing falls under the category of a guilty pleasure movie for me now. This movie, does not have a very great reputation. The critics absolutely hated it, it only did alright at the box office, but there’s also a small pool of fans that either grew up watching this movie like me, or just enjoy it for what it is. Maybe you, watching this are part of that pool of people who love this movie, or maybe you’re part of the majority that hate this movie. If you are one of those people, you probably aren’t gonna like this video very much.

Van Helsing was my childhood comfort movie and obsession 😂. I remember coming home from Kindergarten with it playing in the living room and was instantly hooked! I proceeded to annoy the hell out of my family for years afterwards as I would watch it at least once every day! It’s now been probably almost a decade since I watched it, but I’m so ecstatic that there are others out there that love it almost as much as I do

Same I was obsessed with it as a kid. We had it on dvd I watched endlessly. When I was like 8 I dressed like van helsing for Halloween. My dad let me use his old ass leather cow boy hat. We also somehow found a trench coat that fit me. Even to this day it’s my favorite movie. People always hated on it. It’s finally getting the love it deserves

I adore this film, it has so many different themes & lore from vampires, werewolves & Frankenstein. This storyline holds up till this day. This movie is highly underrated & had many big stars in it as well. Dracula’s story with his wives & children are so wildly & good written. Alongside Van Helsing & Dracula’s relationship. I got so hyped when I seen you’re covering this - your videos are so in depth & entertaining. Thank you. ❤️🎥

The best description i have heard of this movie is that "It is the Nickelback of Gothic Action movies". It is a kind of guilty pleasure of mine as im fully aware of how convoluted the overall plot is, but i also love how it takes itself seriously while Hugh Jackman is shooting an automatic crossbow at CGI versions of those three actresses. As a side note, the licensed game that came out for PS2 and Xbox is actually a pretty decent game, it gains extra points cause Hugh Jackman and almost all the original actors redid their roles there.

Bless you for covering this underrated gem of a movie. Love the clear passion the filmmakers had to give homage to the classic monster movies of the 1930s & ‘40s. It managed to fit Van Helsing, Dracula, his wives, the Werewolf, Frankenstein monster, Mr. Hyde, even Igor all in a cohesive story. It definitely deserves more attention and praise

i must have been 13 when i watched van helsing. one year prior evanescence dropped "bring me to life" and from that moment on i got into everything gothic, rock, metal, fantasy etc. therefore i loved it. hugh jackman and kate beckinsale were awesome and the whole aesthetic was right up my alley. i watched it so many times but i couldn't tell you anything specific about it today. i should rewatch it. great video, as always. i really appreciate your content.

I really appreciated the vagueness of Van Helsing's backstory. It really makes you want to learn more about him. Really a smart writing choice that just didn't get the payoff it deserved. I'm still okay with filling in the gaps myself!

I've always loved this film, ever since it first came out! I never understood the hate it gets. Especially, as you said, if you're a fan of The Mummy. They're more or less the same kind of movie. Hugh Jackman crushes it as the title character, and I genuinely think this is one of David Wenham's best roles too. He's hilarious as Carl! Kate Beckinsale doesn't offer much than being eye-candy (she's better in the Underworld films - also underrated vamp/werewolf flicks), but I still really like her here too. And Richard Roxburgh is fantastic here - easily, one of my favourite Dracula's. I always felt this movie was playing into the whole over the top silliness at times of the old black and white movies (the "it's alllliiiiive!" style stuff), while also still paying it respect. So if you watch it through that lens, it's so much more entertaining.

I just rewatched this a couple months ago after enjoying as a teen, and I friggin loved it bc it just took itself so seriously. You're like okay, Franky boy, vampires, werewolves, what fun and silly play. But the story and even just the run time showed to take itself seriously and I think it's a bona-fide good movie. And how it betrays common tropes that you think will be there; I absolutely loved Van Helsing handing Dracula a big ol' crucifix, and Dracula screams in pain while holding it as it swiftly melts away in flame, and Dracula continues his monologue. So good

I truly did not want this movie to end, I wish we had gotten a series that follows Van Helsing after the events of the film or a prequel explaining his past. They left alot on the table with the Lore. I loved the setting they filmed in, the action and character designs were awesome. For example, what other legendary beasts/characters could Gabriel go up against next, who has he already taken down before this film? The Devil was able to casually transform Dracula into a nealy unstoppable threat to the world, as a former Archangel would Gabriel ever feel the need to go after Satan himself? Where does Frankenstein's monster end up?

I just don't understand why this movie didn't do well. It was great. And no, this isn't nostalgia speaking, I've watched it as a kid, as a teenager, as an adult and I love it more each time. It had similar Box Office numbers to Batman Begins and Superman Returns yet only one of these 3 movies was allowed to go on and become greater. I'm willing to bet that had Van Helsing and Superman Returns had gotten their planned sequels, they would have only been better, at least at the Box Office. But oh well.

For any who like Van Helsing, you should check out Robert E. Howard's character Soloman Kane. Kane you could say was an inspiration for Van Helsing and monster hunters in general. Kane is a Puritan who travels the world fighting demons, vampires, evil humans, saving innocents and the weak. The Del Rey book: The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane has most if not all his stories in one.

I'm still a fan of this film, (I'm absolutely in love with this Dracula adaptation) but watching this review made me really think about how insanely packed this film is. There's just too much going on, leaving nothing with a "finished" polish it could have been. But I wouldn't change it. I love this campy, oversexualized mix of my favorite monsters in a film. I think no matter the faults, it'll always be a special piece of media to me.

This movie also has some steampunk elements to it also. I personally love how they opened with it as black and white which was a great homage to the original universal movies. I've personally always thought this movie was a banger even when I was 10 years old when I first saw this movie when it came out in 2004 I was like this movie kicks ass 🤘🔥, also I find it hilarious that Universal has been trying to make a monster cinematic universe by having all their monsters meet up when they already accomplished this with this movie 20 years ago , I mean you got Dracula, The Wolfman ( two Wolfmen) , Frankenstein's monster , Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Dracula Brides all in this one movie, the only ones missing from this movie was Frankenstein's bride, The Invisible Man , The Mummy and the Creature from the Black Lagoon so if they managed to somehow fit these monsters in this movie or a sequel that never happened then they would have had their cinematic universe decades ago

I saw this movie in theaters and it blew my mind, super fun movie. Going back to it nowadays it feels like how a live action Castlevania film should be, cheesy but with an earnest effort.

Being a 90s Scooby Doo rerun kid I can’t express how god damn good this was at 10 years old in the cinema. Dracula’s wives were hitting different by then

Great movie, loved it growing up. Had no idea it was the same director that did the Mummy movies, that makes so much sense.

this movie is beyond awesome, everything was packed into one movie where it could have been at least 2 or 3, i remember my aunt taking me and my brother to rent movies when that was still a thing, and I picked van helsing, after that point ive probably watched it 5 more times over the years, awesome movie!

I still watch it from time to time. I’ve always loved it. Btw, it’s Van Helsing’s own rule that he will not kill a creature that isn’t evil. The order actually orders him to kill frankenstein’s monster

I love how over the top all the vampires are in this movie. It's like they have no control over their impulses or emotions. They just hurl themselves totally into whatever they feel like doing in the moment, cackling the whole time. It's great.
