I don't think she meant it like you took it, because locals don't get out and do touristy things ...because its taken for granted . We did picnics spots as outings on bank holidays or moonlit nights.

Hans, [1] it is very safe in Barbados and most parts of the Caribbean. Just take normal precautions: e.g., stay in the safety of numbers and public spaces as much as possible. Avoid being alone or in secluded spots. [2] To live in Barbados or most islands in the Caribbean can be as expensive/luxurious or as cheap as you choose. E.g., there are places that you can rent for under U.S.$500 per week . . . or you can find villas and hotels that cost thousands per NIGHT. There is a great variety on the island . . . in everything from food to accommodation to activities to festivals to entertainment to social events . . . and it is really up to you how much or how little you spend in the end.

michael reidy, no, all COVID-19 restrictions have been removed in Barbados and throughout the Caribbean. The world has changed radically since year 2021 and tourism and the cruise-industry are fully back to pre-pandemic normal capacity, itineraries, products, and services. Enjoy fully! Of course, it is still highly recommended to practise basic protocols such as wearing a good-quality mask in airports, during flights, and in crowded places. Always good idea to practise good hygiene and sanitation. Physical distancing makes things more comfortable for everyone, as well as safer health-wise.

Don't worry some day you may be able to travel around Barbados.

I do not know how much you have experienced Barbados or the rest of the Caribbean, but there is so much to do, to see, to touch, to taste, and to experience, it is an amazing country/region! I think that the biggest issue is how IGNORANT most people are about all that is available, and that includes many people who live on the island (or in the region). E.g., persons from the South might rarely or never visit places in the North or the East. It is surprisingly easy to become comfortable and familiar with the cosmopolitan urban corridor from Oistins to Holetown and to forget that that is only a 1/4 of the island (i.e., 3 out of 11 Parishes).

Anissa Talbi, Barbados has done very well in managing the COVID-19 pandemic. Its case-rate and death-rate are well below the global average. We saw what happened in Britain, U.S.A., and elsewhere and learned not to take things for granted health-wise. To this day, many people practise basic precautions such as enhanced hygiene and sanitation, wearing of masks in public/indoor places, physical distancing, and getting vaccinated.

orep Epstein, Did you mean "mask"? Highly recommended in airports, flights, and crowded indoor spaces like public transportation and tours. Basic public-health measure to stay healthy during your expensive travels. Nothing worse than illness to ruin a great vacation.
