I have this issue but it only happens when I play my ps 5 sometimes the dots are not there and sometimes they are only when I play certain games so I am confused on whether I need to get this repaired or not or maybe it is just something that can be fixed with the settings

Right and you look at their new products and they come with all sorts of energy saving, climate friendly features and materials - pure bullshit because the way they could actually help the environment is by building durable products that people can buy once and keep for decades instead of throwing out to a landfill after a couple of years! We're doomed...

Five white spots for about a year. Finally summoned up the courage to follow your instructions. Took a couple of hours. I had a couple of extra connecters that needed detaching, but apart from that it was pretty much as you showed. No clips broken! You do have to be very careful when turning the screen over after removing the outer bezel (and when turning the screen over to put the bezel back) as the glass is loose at this point and can slip. I checked the lenses and found one other that was loose so fixed that one as well. Put it all back together and with great trepidation turned it on..... Perfect! Thank you so much. Very proud of myself 🙂

Dude! I watched this vid a few weeks or so ago, and just got around to checking my faulty, steadily worsening LG TV backlight last night. I has a different issue and is a different model, but your vid helped with disassembly a lot. I had some burned rectifying (or whatever) diodes on the led strips, but I found some similar ones on an old sony TV mainboard, and it worked! I'm still going to have to replace the LED strips eventually, but no more flickering! Just wanted to give a thanks for a helpful video

THANK YOU for this walkthrough, it was explained well enough that it also worked for my Vizio brand tv, as the components were different sizes but same configuration. The only main difference was the reflectors were *much* smaller, so there were 72 that had fallen out. In the end there were a small few that didn’t completely align, but they’re on the edges and they’re barely visible. Honestly I was just so happy the screen didn’t crack during the repair that those few misaligned reflectors don’t matter.

Great video. Although my TV is a Samsung and is constructed slightly differently, I managed to get it apart following your instructions and some improvisation. The thing I wasn't expecting was the Loctite Superglue Gel not working! I made several attempts, then switched to Gorilla Superglue, and that didn't work either! After a rethink I decided that the light brown film around each dot must be the residue of the original adhesive, and that it was preventing the new glue from curing. I found the only thing that works is to use a watchmakers tiny screwdriver, aided by a magnifying glass, to carefully scrape away the old adhesive around each dot (11 reflectors, 33 dots!) and from the back of each reflector. This was followed by dabbing away the old adhesive dust with a moist cotton bud, then drying all parts, again with a new cotton bud, then re-sticking the reflectors, again using the Loctite. Even then I had to hold each one is place for 60 seconds and not the 30 seconds stated on the pack. All I have to do now is reassemble the TV without breaking the screen! 🤞
@TheUltimateRecycler
@TheUltimateRecycler 11 ай бұрын
Wow, you are certainly committing the time to this job! I haven't had any trouble with glue residue with any of the ones I've done, but I guess it depends on the type of glue the manufacturers used originally. Best of luck with the reassembly! 🤞😊

@@TheUltimateRecycler It's all back together now and working as normal, so many thanks to you and your instructions. A couple of things I did differently; I used low tack masking tape to secure the speakers in place as I used these as support blocks when I turned the tv over as my tv does not have those built-in pillars. I then used a thick paperback book as a third support block at the top of the tv. Also, I left the logic board in place and just disconnected the ribbon cable connectors to the strip boards at the bottom of the tv as this meant less parts 'flapping about' as I carried out the work. I photographed every step on my mobile as a reassembly guide. I actually found reclipping the outer bezel the most difficult part. The top and sides clipped in straightaway, but the bottom section took a lot more effort, and I suspect this is where some people might end up cracking their screens if they get frustrated. I just left it for a while, had a mug of tea, then went back to it with a fresh calm purpose. I think the only thing I would do differently in future would be to use quick-setting Araldite instead of superglue. Again, many thanks for a great instructional video.

Now that's how to make a good repair video. Thanks for that. I found one of these shopping at "La Strada" or the roadside today. Now I feel confident I can fix it. I just need a table tennis table. Edit: Got the display apart and I also had a single one hanging on. I have one tip I want to add that I think might help people attempting this repair. When you come to lifting the back plate, I found opening the fragile plastic locking clips very easy @9:38 if I slid a 2.5cm square of plastic along the groove sideways over the clips. This didn't bend the plastic clip any more than the bare minimum plus it also means you can release every clip and ensure they stay unclipped whilst separating the screen.. Very small chance of breaking one in frustration with ones that slip back in. I tried the plastic clips used on bread bags but it is too thick. But the size is about perfect. I used a semi-rigid plastic lid supermarkets package baked goods like scones or biscuits in. I suppose a plastic milk bottle would also work fine. Just be sure to count how many you use and ensure you don't leave one inside. The clear ones are hard to see and it caused me a problem with one stuck in a clip on reassembly. Another tip I have is to get a black (dark) marker and dab it onto the ends of the three little nubs. It makes lining them up with the LED holes much easier. I used ordinary super glue. TV works fine now except the smart features and apps are pretty obsolete as is the WEBOS version stuck way back at 1.4. Which I pretty much expected.

Thanks a lot, I just repaired my LG TV with your guidelines. Excellent video all round. I was extra careful with the screen glass, as you showed and had no problems. Only thing, I had to improvise a the bit when you detached the long chips at the bottom, as my model was slightly different: I had to unscrew the full motherboard instead, which proved to be a good idea. On a side note, when glueing the back the clear cylinders, I reckon the three dots constraining the piece in place were still with glueing power, even after around 7 years, although you could sense that it would detach back again at some point later. I glued the three dots with Loctite, but because I had a well lit room I could see through the clear cylinder where to plug the piece rightaway, without much trial and error. Overall, thanks so much for your very instructive video!

nice video. You helped us fix the TV without messing with the screen. For me, the model is definitely the lf652v which has the main board in external plastic and the side board to go down, I faced difficulties because I had to remove the logic board to rest on the bottom since the tapes are difficult to remove. I also changed the rear lighting, I didn't stick them, but I faced difficulties in removing the white plastic pieces, as he wants to do them front to back, and it's better to push them from behind. in general, if you do it with your peace of mind, it is an easy process.

Hi Chris, thanks for making this video. I just finished a 7 year old Philips 43" LED TV with Ambilight. All of the lensens except one had fallen down. So it was quit a job to fix them all. The white circled outlines are all gone now. Now that I know how the tv looks on the inside and I'm paying more attention, i can see the actual 5 rows of lenses behind the screen.. or maybe I applied to much glue....? Very happy with the final result. Thanks again!

Thanks Adrian! On most LED TVs, particularly as they get older you can notice the array of lights if you look for them. Most people don't know so don't even register slight unevenness. Possibly regluing makes it a little more noticeable but it's better than not fixing the problem at all! 😊

Good on ya, Mate! I love the idea of having the screen be face-down. I hope I can do the same thing with my 60 inch Samsung that seems to have a couple of bad backlight strips and is causing a gradual darkness along the top 1/3 of the screen. Thanks for sharing.

Just a second comment to say thanks once again for this video - I have just replaced (fully) all the backlights in my 10 year old LG and it worked like a charm. A bit more difficult than I was hoping since actually getting in and doing it versus watching a video are two different things. The plastic clip in shrouding holding the optical filters in place was the most difficult thing. It does not help I am getting old and this sort of stuff is not as easy as it was when I was younger. But I hope it will give the TV a few more years of life as I would rather wait a couple more years before getting a new one (and I would rather like to keep this as an emergency spare regardless or maybe even use it in the bedroom with a second Nvidia Shield attached).

@@TheUltimateRecycler: It's my pleasure. Chris, do you discharge your TV's capacitors before working on the TV? I know enough to do this on a heat-pump unit but it didn't occur to me do so on this 60 inch Samsung TV and I got a pretty healthy jolt while I was simply disconnecting the individual LED strips from their shared supply line. My hair is still smoldering! :)

Well I tried it and the procedure is good. I have an LG 55LB6300 I glued about 35 crystals back on. Putting the thing back together however was tough. The chassis was hard to get down and clipped back inside the screen. I did eventually get it all back together and it seemed great. However when I turned it on the screen was junk. Just a bunch of lines and several cracks on the corners. Oh well, it was nine years old.

Good on you for giving it a go all the same. The LCD screens are so delicate and they pretty much need to "fall together" as any force at all will crack them. No great loss though as the TV was no good as it was. Thanks for watching 👍😊

I'll try this for Sony TV. It should be fine as far as i see from other videos of replacing LEDs on the same model. Looks dangerous to me to lift the LCD alone by hands as well as using these suction cups which are actually for glass and they may damage the screen. They are not even completely smooth. They have some bump in the middle. I was researching how to do this for a while and this looks the best method as you don't disassemble the screen assembly at all. Thanks a lot

Yeah modern TVs are less hazardous than CRTs as far as high voltages go. But don't have it turned on while apart, and be careful around the power board and large capacitors in general as they can hold a charge.

I was just watching my 55" samsung tv and heard this sound like something dropped. I got up and looked around and couldn't find anything that fell? I go back to watching tv and I have this bright light in the middle of my tv. I google what's going on, which brought me to your video. So that sound was the reflector/lens falling inside my tv and now my anxiety is racing watching this video wondering if I could possibly do this? Your video looks straight forward, and I like the keeping the LCD always laying flat so not to break it idea.... My tv is 10 years old so I'm guessing it's common but I've never seen this happen on any flat-screen tv my family has ever owned. But at least I have answers as to what exactly happened.... and it IS fixable. (It ain't broke.) Thanks again for making such a straight forward video. My tv is Samsung though, but the process would probably be very similar?
@TheUltimateRecycler
@TheUltimateRecycler Жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael. Yep, I think all LED TVs would be very similar. It is quite a common problem as these TVs age - cheap glue that breaks down over time with heat. It didn't happen with earlier flatscreen TVs that used fluorescent backlighting and not with plasma TVs either - just the LCD LED TVs

I reckon flipping the TV after removing the front bezel or before installing the front bezel is still dangerous as the screen is not always glued to the matrix frame and can fall out or is only supported by ones hands on the side. Thank you for the very clear repair video!

excellent guide! I still managed crack my glass though 😢 Just a word of caution: when you are putting the outer bezel back on, double check on the reflective sheet underneath the glass. If the reflective sheet doesn't sit flush against the inner chassis (or back plate, if you will), it will bunch up and push against the backside of the glass. That, combined with attempts to use bit of force to put the outer bezel back on = snapped glass. On my attempt, the said reflective sheet and the glass came off and got slightly misaligned, and I should have paid more attention when reinstalling the backplate. Well, that was my $30 lesson for the day 😂
@TheUltimateRecycler
@TheUltimateRecycler 11 ай бұрын
Thanks. Oh that's unfortunate - sounds like you were nearly there for a successful fix! Yeah, alignment is rather critical and if anything requires excessive force - dismantle & re-check! Thanks for sharing the lesson.

Mind you that this might not go as smooth on all (newer?) models. I did this on a 55PUS6401 and ended up cracking the LCD. While removing the inner chassis (10:26), the plastic bezel came apart (was badly taped together) and a few sheets that are behind the LCD panel (and should be aligned during re-assembly) became loose and I had a hard time trying(!) to re-align all of those and I think while putting the chassis back in place and trying to fit things, I cracked the LCD. If I had known up front that the situation after lifting the inner chassis would be such a mess, I would have never wasted any time on this. No big loss here since I was going to trash the TV anyways because it was a temporary one that had some more defects other than a small white circle but I wanted to see if the white circles could be as easily fixed as suggested in the video(s). In the end I did manage to glue the diffuser back on and put the tv back together but as mentioned, with a broken LCD on the bottom side where I struggled the most to re-assemble. I hope this helps someone else who is willing to attempt this. Given my experience I would say that on some models this might be a VERY risky repair. If you DO proceed then make sure to pay EXTRA attention when extracting the inner chassis to make sure everything under it stays in place and take a good look before completely removing the inner chassis completely to see how things are put together. good luck, you'll need it.

Thanks for your feedback Mr W. Yes if things get out of alignment, assembly is more complicated. Someone else mentioned a similar issue, but many have had success and I haven't had any cracked screens in the few that I've done. It possibly does depend on the models - slightly different construction with the bezels perhaps. Ultimately the TVs are no good really without the repair and no one would pay a repair shop to do the job on an older TV - so I feel it's worth a shot anyways. In just about every case, it's no big loss if you fail. Cheers, Chris

Excellent video! How would you do the same job on a curved screen tv, when the screen cannot be laid flat, without risking breaking the screen? No luck on a Vizio M65-e0, I'm afraid. There's no inner bezel, only a filter frame which doesn't secure the LCD panel. So while I've got the reflectors glued back on, now I find that I can't flip it back over to put the bezel on without the LCD shifting out of place. Too big for a one man job! I'll try again tomorrow with help and hope all is not yet lost. Still, it was worth a shot! I wouldn't have paid to have it repaired, so no real loss either way. Thanks for the informative video nonetheless!
