Funny about this! I was going over my xopy of Yeadon's Register of LNER Locomotives: Volume 48, which lists the J70 Class. Wilbert Awdry stated in his "Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways" that while Toby could have been 68221/127, he never explicitly confirmed it. Like I did with other characters, in order to fill gaps in what I like to take as finishing something Wilbert Awdry never got the chance to, I checked the J70 allocation details in the Yeadon Book, and matched them up to the history of the Wisbech and Upwell Tramway. I found that 68217/136 of 1903-vintage, unlike 68221, worked from the beginning of its life at Wisbech and, apart from one winter stint at Colchester, was not transferred away until the arrival of the first Class 04 Diesels in 1952. I thought that alone aligns so well with the Toby we all know, and giving a solid foundation for his dynamic with Henrietta too. 68217 was thus withdrawn from service in March 1953 with a newish boiler fitted as late as 1949, which adds something as well to the condition Toby would have been in when purchased - initially transferred - by Sir Topham Hatt. The tramline Toby would have worked, I ascertained to have been a branch to Wisbech St. Mary. I used the same Yeadon Book to ascertain another Sodor Resident attached to Edward's Branch Line: the first-built J68 Class 0-6-0 Tank No. 41/7041, which in 1940 was sold to the War Department and never returned, being scrapped at Faslane Shipbreakers in Scotland by 1952. In my take, Toby met an engine aptly dubbed Celia while their basis engines were in Stratford Works upon the outbreak of WW2. Not forgetting her telling story, Toby advocated for Sir Topham Hatt to give her the second chance he got, and she was saved in a position of being dismantled for spare parts on the spot. What do you think? Regards, Samuel Farris.

It's especially funny when you consider the American engines are built to a smaller scale than the British ones. British trains are modeled in 1/76th scale, American and mainland European ones are 1/87th scale. So the size difference is even more pronounced in real life.

That GCR 9N would make a great TVS character. It’s fan-character time! *Ahem* Robert is a Class 9 tank engine from the Great Central Railway, who works as a shunter at various locations along the Little Western line and the Coastal run. In his GCR days, he was teased relentlessly by the other engines for his huge size for a tank engine, and his controller turned a blind eye. So he doesn’t often speak to others, preferring to keep to himself. But with the help of Duck, Oliver and Arthur, he learns that good people and engines are very real, and not to assume that goodness is just a mask to hide evil

Congratulations on the Wedding! The American models really strike my interest in this update. It's great that you are now living in Washington state and are becoming a Great Northern fan. Believe me, it is one of the best railways in the country. As a fan myself, most of my HO gauge collection is dominated by Great Northern models of all kinds, mostly boxcars. I cannot recommend the GN more and here is a tip: avoid the ready-to-run GN liveried 2-8-0s by Broadway Limited, Bachmann and any other company that makes them as none are accurate to the real GN F-8 Class. The brass models are more expensive but are exactly like the real prototypes. I hope you consider more Washington State lines in the future. For Washington State railroads, I also collect Canadian Pacific, Northern Pacific and currently on the look out for Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway stock. And, the unfinished models of Gordon, James and Henry, the first words that came to mind when you said they were the only models not show cased were "Disgraceful, Disgusting, Despicable." Couldn't resist.

50:43 yep. thats me. Dillon the F40PH. you're probably wondering how i ended up in Tug's video. so it all starts sometime in 1976 when i was born in a EMD factory. i left the factory in the Phase 2 livery and headed for my route on the Northeast Corridor. by 1991, me and my bois (the other F40PHs) were already being replaced by P40DCs and 8-32BWHs. eventually i got tired of Amtrak selling us F40s and left for the Galar Region (yep. the Pokémon Region in Pokémon Sword and Shield) i would work with many Intercity 125s. the Mark 3 coaches were lighter than the Superliners i was pulling in America, but they did the job. i liked pulling Mark 3 coaches on the Mainline, and sometimes, i even towed broken down Intercity 125s! this just goes to show the British Railways era was bad, but it could have been worse.

So if you're looking to go deeper into American locomotives, Walther's is on a roll with their diesels, and if you can find a proto-2000 USRA standard 0-8-0 at a decent price go for it. I don't have one myself but people keep telling me they are outstanding models. Edit: People are also loving the Bachmann New York Central Hudsons, Trainworld still has a bunch of them so why not give it a shot?

Stephenson rocket wasn't the first successful steam locomotive, just the winner of the Rainhill trials. There were extremely early locos but the first commercially successful was salamanca at the Middleton Railway, the first successfull standard gauge was locomotion I believe

As much as I love being American and American railroading, I ADORE British locomotives. Especially their liveries, cause we Americans only painted streamlined locomotives (in terms of steam), and any color you can find on a steam locomotive is either very VERY dark green or blue. Man I love BR Blue like tug, and I like br green on a few locomotives (more specifically, the Bullied Pacifics) and Br black looks nice, and I absolutely LOVE the big 4 and pre grouping liveries . Learned something too, British railways did something similar to Strasburg 2005-2016 (well before 475 got her N&W lettering back in 2017 permanently after a photo charter) and have British railways but in the style of the locomotives original railroads, even tho I saw tornado in that livery 100 times online, I only JUST figured that out cause of this (also the case with the Strasburg fleet a few months ago). Another thing I figured out, that the class 121 exists. I used to hate British diesels being a steam fanboy, but I’m trying to warm up to them, still a steam boy tho.

47:54 My favorite steam locomotive of all time! The Southern Pacific GS-4 No. 4449 Daylight is one striking beauty of an American streamliner; its bell, air horn, and her famous Hancock 3 Chime steam whistle will always be iconic to a steam locomotive in my heart! The fact you have a collection of American trains is very impressive.

52:06 you ever thought of doing Emily in the RWS/Headcanon style of Models??? Probably would need to buy another stirling single for such an idea (since you probably would like to keep the current one you have) 4:41. But considering how much that model is currently...i doubt we'll be seeing her anytime soon... but hey...sounds like a cool idea, at least. Also maybe Diesel too. Headcanon of him being brought back again and staying somewhere on sodor??? Or like Spencer, he's a mainland engine that sometimes comes over to sodor. To help when needed???

You just need to pick up models of Bittern, Sir Nigel Gresley, and dominion of Canada to complete the 6 preserved A4’s. 41:27 this is my favorite version of Scotsman, and when combined with the second tender from the USA Scotsman, it just brings a smile to my face.

51:55 For layout mashup - search for Jimmy Lambert's "Tea and Moonshine" series. In it he runs pretty nice bunch of british locos on layout, modelling North Carolina in the 1940s with very dry humour commentary. Some parts of it are crazy hilarious.

Now THIS is a great railway show!. If it'd be of interest to you Tug, i highly recommend seeking out ( if it's still available ) Heljan's model of the *HS4000 Kestrel Prototype* to add to the collection. Known as "The Bird That Flew Too High" she's an incredibly unique engine, being only one of a kind built, and at the time in the 60's was the most powerful locomotive in the world, not to mention it's apparently still to this day argued to be the most beautiful looking class of diesel engine ever. Her history indeed is pretty fascinating and is such an underrated legend in my opinion. Defiantly deserves more recognition. 💛🤎

If anyone wants detailed pictures of Waddon, I work at the museum where it is stored. Sadly, its storage is unheated during our cold winter months, and the roof has leaking issues, allowing it and many more engines to suffer light rusting damage. We'll hopefully get the budget to fix the roof this spring to help conserve this beautiful engine, among others, in our collection.

I have an idea for your dead Oliver model. You can remove the motor and customize it to look like he did in Escape! Take off the siderods, write "SCRAP" all over him, and it'll be perfect once you finish Douglas.
