I'd expect they'll develop a "living hold" mode, where it sways its body just a little bit, replants a foot here and there, and so forth, when it's not otherwise engaged in a task. That would be not only dissipate much of the creepiness he mentions, but more importantly serve as a safety feature to keep bystanders on notice that it's powered up and ready to do something so they won't just ignore it as they would any nonliving object like a rock.

As an ecologist, I would find this little guy very useful to bring my lab equipment in the field. Right now the heavy stuff is stored in backpacks because cars can't really go deep in the woods. I think I would be way happier with fewer weights on my back and more batteries and sensors around. I wonder how long can Spot last when cruising, tho. Not as long as a donkey, I'm afraid (we got their help at some point), but being a robot it would be easier to bring around the country and store.

Would be interesting to know in what applications this robot would actually be commercially viable. Sure, it can do all sort of neat things. But at the cost of a car, it does have to compete with more specialized but simpler robots (like in a warehouse) and even humans. As a camera platform it has to compete with flying drones and multiple stationary cameras. And so on.
