What makes Christianity unique? I just came from watching a video of the bond hearing of Dylann Roof, the Charleston SC shooter who killed nine people who were studying their Bibles, he spent about an hour with them before pulling out his gun and shooting nine of them. He reportedly said to police, I almost didn't do it... they were so nice to me. At his bond hearing the victims loved ones told him they forgave him, that they hoped he would find salvation through Jesus... that they would not allow hate to win. No one, without the grace and mercy of God Almighty within, could do this... as their Savior asked them to do, to love their enemy, and pray for him.

Debra. I love Jesus. I was told by an apparent Christian that I had "no right to forgive!" and "had no authority to forgive". I quoted this story of extreme forgiveness to this person. I do hope they get the help they require. You and I forgive as we are encouraged to in Gods word, The Bible, but it is the act we forgive, we cannot forgive the 'sin'. That is in Christ. Christ only.

@The Truth Just because stupid men use passages in the Bible to justify their monstrous acts doesn't mean that the Bible actually condones racism. According to the Bible, YHWH only created two humans that reproduced to populate the earth over time. Those two people had every people group in their genetic makeup. When people use repulsive phrases like, "keep the race pure", they're beyond ignorant to not even use common sense in understanding YHWH's truth and ways.
@anar3602
@anar3602 4 жыл бұрын
@The Truth yeah . . . that all sounds ridiculous. Good thing that's not really the truth. *Racism* The Isrealites are the descendants of a singular man. Basically . . he impressed God. Despite the reality of this man's advanced age and barrenness of his wife, this man rejected the reality of what his eyes saw and what his own human logic told him. He dared to believe, because of the one that told Him the impossible was possible. He took God at His word. Even as time passed, this man stood expectantly that He who promised was faithful to complete it. As a result God kept his promise. Even throughout the ages and the stupidity of this man's descendant, God stayed faithful to this man. This isn't about race. Isreal is a choosen nation, not because of who they are, but because of one man that touched God's heart by believing beyond the condition of his circumstances. *Worship* is not a demand, it's actually a natural byproduct of literally being in the presence of THE CREATOR. YHWH is, in my experience, an emminating being that sends out particles of TRUTHS that are received like packets of knowings. _Not sure if this makes sense, because I'm trying to express alter dimensional truths in human words._ I knew things immediately in His presence: He had been at my side all my life, He was hurt by my hurt, His love for me was inexpressible, His essence was literally LOVE, TRUTH, JUST, RIGHTEOUS, HOLINESS, He wanted to heal my heart from life's wounds. He literally poured laughter and joy over me as if it was water. To be in His presence is life changing. Worship before YHWH is the result of LOVE and getting built up again is a really great perk. Galatians 5:22 - _"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,"_ Nehemiah 8:10 - _" . . . for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”_ *Sexism* isn't true either. Why? There's no male or female in the kingdom of Heaven. Galatians 3:28 - _"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."_ Homophobic Again, wrong. Sin is sin in the eyes of YHWH. If one comes into the knowledge that He's right and you're wrong everytime, there's no issue . . . obey that it may be well with you. He'll take care of the rest. To walk with Him is to be reborn, where the old man is dead and one walks in the newness of abundant life. *Hell* Again, wrong. Hell wasn't created for man, it was created for fallen angelic beings. But you have free-will, just as every angelic being does. It's not like you don't know the choice . . . so choose life. / / / I recent heard a testimony of a guy that gave his life to Jesus. *But only for a week.* He told God he didn't believe He was real, but that He would be willing to put his trust in Him for a whole week. If He didn't prove Himself he'd go his way knowing that he had given it a real effort to find out. He said it worked for him. Just an idea.

As a muslim, l think we all believe in same. we have differences but we all believe in one God and try to be good on behalf of God. That is fair enough. Fırstly I adore Mr. Lennox. But I cant stop thinking like that as well. Consdiering his example, how did he decide to marry her? He became friend with her they been through hard times together and once they became sure enough, they got married. They met, they spent time, they know each other, they been through hard times together(part between first gate and the last one) and only then they marrie (part after the last gate). I admire the forgiveness in Christianity as Muslim for sure but being nice and kind to all kinds of people? Forgiving people who done bad things to lets say innocent people? Is this really how God's justice works without justice? Can we make a justice without punishing the bad? What about people who been good all the time? Didnt they have a right to live a life? I am sorry but being justice is not same as forgiving everything. As much as equality doesnt mean justice, it is same for the fact that absoulete forgiveness doesnt mean justice and fairness.

You are so right John - merit is not what maketh a Christian… However, while many understand (well, kinda) the doctrine of grace and (probably not at all), the doctrine of the sovereignty of God, they still insist that it requires some kind of volitional belief commitment from the person… but that then puts one right back into the ‘merit trap’ - “I am a Christian because I chose to believe” (for whatever reason)! In other words… I am a Christian, not because I believe, but because I am a Christian, I believe - biiiiiig difference! ‘Faith’ in the Heb 11 sense, leads one to the inevitable conclusion: faith = imputed belief! Nothing less…

I have my questions, but, I really do believe in the power of prayer. At the very least, I believe that Jesus is a way to God, despite all of the historical questions I do have. However, I think that spiritual development is important along the way, and I think here there is much to be gained from Yoga and Buddhist teachings. I also think ethics have to be constantly approached from many angles as new information is always developing so quickly. All in all, I really think it's good to see someone speak so sincerely though about the need for resolution of sin and uniting w God for it's own intrinsic purpose and not for any gain otherwise. I relate to this in my own faith in God, however many questions I still have unresolved.

Journal entry 1/27/2016 Just as perplexing as the notion of something out of nothing is the idea that an all-perfect God could have any unfulfilled desires. This concept of desire in an all-perfect, self-contained godhead has always puzzled me. On the one hand, you have God enjoying his blissful perfection, in need of nothing and, on the other hand, that same blissfully perfect God suddenly gets a creative urge, knowing that if he acts on that urge he will be opening Pandora's Box, a box filled with so much horror and suffering any sane entity would recoil at the thought. And yet, we are asked to believe this omniscient, all-loving godhead opens Pandora's Box anyway when nothing is compelling him to do so. When absolutely nothing is forcing him to abandon his state of bliss, in which there is no evil, no suffering, and no eternal torment, nothing compelling him to end that blissful state to create a nightmare. Is it possible for a godhead to become bored with his perfection? That is a question easily overlooked in the stampede of drama that pours out of the bible from the very first chapter. Again, I ask, what could compel a blissfully perfect, loving god to disturb his eternal bliss to create a place of eternal torment for creatures who never needed to exist? This idea is a hole in the creation story big enough to drive a Mack truck through, and yet Christian drama addicts pretend they don't see it. Would Mr. Lennox or any of his followers care to respond?

I’d recommend you asked this to a Catholic theologian( which is the church with the most philosophical and theological works), but my understanding is that God created us not out of necessity, but rather out of love, so we could be able to enjoy his love and adore him, now, love isn’t really love if it is forced, that’s why the option of evil is present, and in the beginning, humanity did that choice(represented in Adam and Eve) and rejected God, and endured the consequences(pain,suffering,death) that entails separating yourself from God and rejecting Him.Now God, through Jesus, reconnects the broken relationship between man and God, elevating us to the quality of sons and daughters of God. Hope this helps and God bless.

This is what the Holy Spirit feels like to experience in your life: Imagine an all encompassing sense of gracious absoluteness breathing out of your whole body, charactized with a gentle soft sensation of calmness that extends to the point where language completely breaks down and becomes futile to give further explanation to the completeness that it brings to you. It is not an indoctrination, I'm not a fan of that word, it sounds very "institutional" I don't believe it is accurate what so ever. It's an experience and it's very real, it ultimately defies words, which leads me to accept, that Jesus Christ is more glorious than his word.

That even by non believers he is considered the most dominant figure in recorded history. That doesn't tell you anything? I believe Jesus is God, and also my friend, stop being so arrogant as to think your smarter than us. Are you truly so arrogant to think that we don't understand the arguments you have and yet still have good reason to believe? It just blows me away how someone can call someone so blind while they themselves don't even believe in truth. Everything to an atheist is subjective, yet you think our way is wrong? You are misinformed about the so-called "golden rule" : it is an unmistakeable Jewish and Christian command, therefore strongly "religious". Some claim it might be traced back to writings of Confucius (I have not checked), but if it is it would just be a philosophy principle, in the midst of tens of others wise thoughts. The point with Christianity and probably with Jewish faith is that God gives us the will and the strength to put such unnatural behaviour into practice... "Loving your neighbour as yourself", or lesser "do to others what you would them do to you", is completely opposed to natural selection. I wonder how could find a place for it?

@@ThefrenchFranz Funny that we see the same principle in operation throughout the social animal world though is it not? Its not an unnatural behaviour. Its a survival trait and its certainly not one that any religion is required for to generate.

@@ThefrenchFranz Its what makes social organisations work. If you are only self interested then obviously you risk everyone else treating you in a similar fashion - when you are threatened by a predator you cant fight off alone, hungry, sick or injured. Your genes dont prosper and neither do those of the rest of your mean, self-interested species.

@@paulfrisby4082 This is your belief, but it is not backed by science, which claim that in such a situation, the weakest of the clan would be left behind for the hunters to give up following the whole group, and therefore lift up the menace. Giving one's life for the benefit of others is completely contrary to modern evolutionary theory.

However, it is still your turn to answer my original question. Feel free to check out the videos I've linked that you're too dishonest to say that you've already watched as a cop-out to addressing the content therein, though.

I would not agree that all the religions share the common thread of "Do unto others as you would be done by" The latter is not central to the Hiindu religion with its caste True some proffessing Christians make an appalling job of demonstrating their professed faith by their character and behaviour but nonetheless at the core of their "professed" faith is the tenet of their faith is "Do unto others as you would be done by"

What I think Lennox means is that no society or civilization has ever thrived by everyone stealing from each other lying, and killing each other. It's like doing all those things is the exact opposite of having a society, you would never get anywhere as a nation.

Even though Jesus said "Judge not by appearance but judge by righteous judgment." Most Christians still believe that God created this world that you cannot trust what you perceive here to be truth. "You are on the earth but not of the earth." Jesus agreed with Buddhists that this world is maya.

I come across this quite often, a person thinks all you have to do is put faith in the sacrifice Jesus made and yes that's definitely part of it but we have to exercise that faith John 3:16 We do have to live in a way that is acceptable to God. Jesus death and resurrection only provides the road to salvation, but we have to walk it. We know that there are disqualifiers. 1 corinthians 6:9-10 Galatians 5:19-21 Colossians 3:5-6
