There’s no such thing as AAPI. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are not the same and are not a “community” I have no idea why in the world they would lump the two together Pacific islanders (Melanesia, Micronesia,Polynesia ) are not even geographically a part of Asia These are separate categories on the US census so they should also be separate months. There are special months for African Americans , Hispanic Americans , and Native Americans so why not have a separate month for Pacific Islanders ? Is this a way to erase indigenous people of the pacific/oceania ? I think so. We already have told not to combine Asian American with Pacific Islanders. It’s in the federal OMB directive to not combine the two 😡

i had high hopes that this would be the REAL hula not somethinf choreopgraphed for tourists or as we call them in my area terrorists. translation those who choose to jknow nothing about where they visit and pay llittle attention to anything but what they expect, not what really is.

Why would they do this in "honor" of Hawaii, tourism has ravaged the islands and the native Hawaiians hate it!!
@Dyrtybyrdie
@Dyrtybyrdie 3 ай бұрын
That’s not true. I’ve had family on Maui for over 15 years and I have native Hawaiians in my family. Their economy is almost completely dependent on tourism and if people stopped visiting the islands, a majority of people would lose their jobs. You sound like someone who saw a TikTok and formed an opinion instead of doing any research, or idk speaking to actual Hawaiians.
@jaytamaalii7209
@jaytamaalii7209 3 ай бұрын
@@Dyrtybyrdie Goes to show you really don't know the truth behind it. A majority of tourism doesn't go to the residents or the natives. A large portion of those profits go to the corporations. Just look at how the hotels reacted when there were water restrictions in place or how the military/ naval base has glossed over the pollution of fresh water from their leaking jet fuels. So, no. Hawaii does NOT largely rely on tourism as it has shown to do the bare minimum to help the residents and kanaka maoli to reclaim the land that's rightfully theirs.
@ovenfreshhhhh
@ovenfreshhhhh 3 ай бұрын
@@Dyrtybyrdieplease stop misrepresenting hawaii. if you do in fact have native hawaiians in your family (NOT people who were simply born there, but are native by blood) they will tell you that tourism is the source of the problems hawaii residents face in 2024. the entire state government is completely dependent on tourism; and welcoming tourists is only good for corporations that operate in hawaii. instead of investing resources in agriculture, aquaculture, research, and preservation… corporations like DISNEY are buying up acres of land so people can look at mickey mouse in an aloha shirt. nevermind that hundreds of NATIVE HAWAIIAN BURIAL GROUNDS AND REMAINS OF ALI’I have been moved from their resting place to make room for hotels and tourist attractions. nevermind that when tourists set foot in hawaii, they leave behind garbage on the beach and go around touching seals and turtles that are ENDANGERED SPECIES AND FEDERALLY PROTECTED. they stomp all over heaius that have signage to NOT trespass because it’s one of the few burial grounds that remain in existence. are you sure you have native hawaiian family members?? lol?? i was born and raised in hawaii. you have no f*ckin idea what you’re talking about.
