I wonder if the regular bar Amy mentions the bartender giving her a hug when she first went out 'en femme' (as it's sometimes called), if it was a gay bar? I once knew a trans who was 6'3" and burly, but despite how 'passable' she said she was as a female, she wouldn't go to straight bars. She feared the ugliness would come out with people who are drunk and they would call her out, or do worse. I think that happened to her but she denied it. Also, I was working at a trucker's motel then but she wouldn't stay there when she'd come from out of town because she acted like it was too low class and no single woman would stay there, but single women did in fact stay there. Her fear was the stereotype about truckers and what they might say or do to her, but she wouldn't admit it and contradict what she was saying about being 'passable'. She'd become hostile and irate if you questioned her about it.
