He said afterwards that it was the first time after the pandemic that he performed in front of an audience again and how much he missed it as an artist (thats why he was so moved during the performance). So it was an easy decision for him to hop on the show.

When he got Covid, he got a steroid treatment and his voice was affected by it. I think he’s emotional because it’s his 1st performance since he got sick and he didn’t know if he would perform again.

@@IAmFat1968 so I had to look Michael McDonald up because I personally have never heard of him. I have to agree with you in some aspects except I think Jimmy’s voice is a tiny bit higher pitched than Michael’s is but not much. Michael’s voice has this crispy element to it that Jimmy’s voice slightly lacks. But Jimmy still has a really good singing voice. I was pleasantly surprised when he started singing. I loved it.

James Blunt is out of this world. IT wasn't a prank. IT was a outstanding performance. You can hear IT in the moment When everyone stopped clapping. He had that kind of silence that you could hear a pin dropped in the audience... And you can see IT on the judges faces When James was singing.... And for that brief moment that studio was magically transformed in a Concert hall....

Hate to break it to you, but that was Jimmy Fallon doing his (quite famous) impression of Michael McDonald. It wasn't his natural voice. His 'natural' voice is actually better. He, Jack Black, and Paul Rudd do send ups of musical groups together quite often. They can all legitimately sing. 😊

Even if it's rehearsed and produced, you can't fake the sadness and feeling in James Blunts singing and face expression. He is a true artist and unique to the point where it's impossible to even trying to get to his level.

Just shows you he isn't just singing for the sake of singing like a lot of singers do. Whatever he's singing about it real, means a lot to him, and he puts all his emotion into whatever he sings. It could be the lighting, but I don't think it is.

I feel for you. I came out of a very short relationship and she totally cut me off out of the blue. Was extremely painful so can't imagine what you're going. I honestly don't know how people write songs about heartbreak either. All it does is immortalise the pain. You'll never forget it, never let go. I thought about it but you can't devote so much time and emotion to something hurtful as it just keeps giving it more life. You have to totally close that chapter however long it takes. I wish for your healing.

@@txlivin7819 It's also possible that she's less willing than others to compromise artistically. I've heard of artists who are apparently complete jerks that haven't been dropped by their record companies, so unless she's REAAAALLLY difficult I would reckon it's more the former than the latter.

Good Lord I felt like James Blunt transported me right into his situation. I could feel every bit of emotion he wrote that song with. I felt like I was right there saying Goodbye with him. Even the band behind him just sat there amazed. Along with the judges and the audience
