I just started watching tutorial on how to make moccasins and beading, I have went thru a lot of tutorial on KZfaq, and can Not find one person to explain what size needles to use for leather or which needles to use for beads, bead needles are to flimsy to use with beads to go thru leather. Or needle to fat for beads to go on needle, very confusing when trying to learn this beautiful hobby, I only hope one person can explain throughly the sizes of needles and what size Beads. Maybe put info in th3 description box for further education on the hobby, thank you for showing such beautiful work, blessings🙏

Thanks for watching. We do use beading needles or short beading needles called sharps. If you use 10/0 beads you would use a 10/0 beading or sharp needle. If using 11/0 beads you would use a 11/0 beading needle or sharp. We do not go all the way through the leather, just catch about a pinch just enough to hold the thread and not pull it though it.

I'm partial to the size 10 glover's needles from John James--thin enough to string most beads, but also with the triangular tip to pierce leather. I almost always work with 11/0 Czech seed beads, and the size 10 works well (although you'll occasionally get an irregular one with a hole that's too small). After a while, the needles get bent and occasionally snap, so do be prepared for that. Good luck!

Love this!! Where do you get your patterns?
@thewanderingbull9843
@thewanderingbull9843 Жыл бұрын
Hi Tanya! We suggest looking at a piece of beadwork and creating your own based off that. Another option is to take a loom work pattern and then adapt it to lazy stitch (3 beads at a time). This is a good book with some lazy stitch examples in the center. Thanks for watching! wanderingbull.com/shop/media/books/north-american-indian-beadwork-patterns/

A few questions. Can you link the needle you are using? Should I bead wool trade cloth the same way going halfway through the cloth or completely going out and back in each time? I broke a needle when I first attempted. Is that something normal or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for the video!
@thewanderingbull9843
@thewanderingbull9843 6 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! When using wool cloth, you should go all the way through the material, completely going out and back in each time. It is common to break beading needles, with time you will find it happens less frequently. I'm not sure what you mean by linking the needle. Could you send more info?

Is there a significance to using 9 beads per row? I learned from another person who is also Native American but she used 10 per row. Just curious. Thank you.
@thewanderingbull9843
@thewanderingbull9843 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. It depends on your pattern and how it will work out. We find an uneven number works better for most patterns. We often will do 7 per row.

Why you make Knot´s when it is easier to make 2-3 Stitches close to the Point you start with your first Row. its possible on Leather and Canvas, I never notice Knots on old Beadwork.
