Always fascinating to hike along a lowered lake...sometimes you can find some pretty cool stuff! (Even if it wasn't the locks this time!). So beautiful to see the mirror like water and the trees reflecting back...wow!

You should try using a drone to overfly the area and look down into the water. Might have better luck spotting something.

I was witness to the building of blue marsh lake. The lake was going to be a lot bigger then what it ended up. The army corp of engineers brought in Hugh bulldozers and stripped all the top soil, trees and vegetation and put down gravel and shale down because the water would be used for water supply for western berks. The Teton dam out west was being filled June 1976 and failed and kill eleven people. That’s why blue marsh dam is only filled half way.

Well, it was still a nice hike around Blue Marsh Lake. I've only been there once 😞 Always fascinated by that "bathtub ring" when lake levels are down. Jennings Randolph Lake can be especially dramatic around the week before Thanksgiving. Also Lake Youghiogheny (sp?) up where Rt. 40 crosses it, if the lake is down enough, (usually late autumn / early winter) you can see the "old road / bridge / sidewalks, etc" come up out of the water all covered in mud, I find it fascinating.

Thanks so much for that Cliff. At least all the canals were full of water. The whole hike was great. Not so fussed on seagulls they have a habit of pooping on my car. Thanks so much for taking me along. Please stay safe and take care

Hi Cliff, could you use your drone to maybe see where the locks were if the water is clear ??. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx ❤

It's funny watching this video now since the lake is now frozen and the area covered in snow.

Thanks for the trip Cliff. Does it matter we did not find the locks? Not to me , we have a good idea where they were and the B 4 pictures are always cool.

8:01 In the center of the picture, straight across the lake, is the overflow area to prevent the water from overtopping the dam. I mentioned that area when you were by the creek, below the dam, in your previous video.

That sounded like an animal in distress and then you hear gunshots.. is it still hunting season there? Also, do you use historic aerial maps when doing research? Not sure if you would be able to find the old locks using that?

So if the locks are not visible isn't that a boating hazard? Why no buoy markers? Just curious.

So is it my understanding there was only a creek when the canals were used and not the huge body of water that is there today?

That is corrrect. Blue Marsh dam was built after hurricane Agnes in 1972.
