Oh my Jesus...your explanation of changing outlet source and assuring that 240 V was coming through to power the machine was right on point. Electric work was being done throughout the house that we did not think the fuse would be tripped. Once we flipped it...we had full power and the heating element lit up! Thank you for this video. So helpful.

Mine was a faulty timer too, open circuit in the two big wires on the timer when in a heated position on the knob. Part number for timer was w10185982, but I removed the screws out the back and cleaned the contacts in the switch and fixed it for free saving me an $80 switch or buying a whole new dryer for $300+ which I had been considering. Whole process took under an hour with a lot of distractions. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the video. I've worked on dryers previously but needed a refresher. I've replaced thermal cutoff, high heat thermostat, cycling thermostat, thermal fuse and heating element. I've had my ducts professionally cleaned from the dryer to the exit of the house. It ran great for a load but now it will run but won't heat. I'm about to burn it in my backyard. Dryers aren't that hard yet I'm defeated.

My dryer ended up having a bad timer. At some point it got stuck in air dry only mode no matter what setting I turned the dial to. Except when I turned it to Air Dry Only setting it wouldn’t come on at all. That was my clue it was the timer. Replaced timer and it’s working like new. Just a thought. Good luck

Very informative video. I’m having an issue with my 2013 Maytag Bravos MEDEX700XL dryer. Suddenly stopped heating (only symptom). Tested in the timed dry option and the moisture sensing options and ran the diagnostic and no fault codes exist Popped off bottom toe plate, tested the continuity and resistance of the thermal fuse, exhaust thermistor, thermal cutoff, high limit thermostat, and the heating element. All are within tolerance and I’m using the service technician handbook that includes the dryer schematics to help trace the issue. The heater relay also engages when I switch the setting from no heat to heat so I know that is good. If all those are good I suspect maybe there is an open somewhere after the heater relay to the heater components. I haven’t fully disassembled the dryer since I have access to all the heating components via the toe plate. Like I said, only issue I’m having is heating so I haven’t tried looking in other areas. Any idea what else it could be? (Side note: I did just move into a new place and had to reinstall the 4 pin cable vice the 3 pin one i had to buy for use in my previous residence. I believe I hooked it up correctly since the dryer heater worked fine the past 4 days and now it isn’t.)

When everything in the dryer checks out as good check the line voltages coming in. I went crazy trying to fix a "dryer runs but won't heat" problem that turned out to be a bad 240V 40A circuit breaker. One pole on the breaker would flip but it wasn't strong enough to make the whole breaker flip. A check of the line voltage to the dryer showed 124V on one leg and 30V on the other. Pulled out the breaker and saw a scorched label on the side of it. Replaced the breaker and the dryer works fine.

I am trying to fix it myself instead of having some one else come do it. All the other videos only talked about it being the heating element. Nothing about the thermostat... My dad is an electrician so he is going to help me determine which one is the problem before I spend money on the wrong thing. Thank you so much. Thank you so much for your videos. I really can’t afford a technician at this point. I checked my heating coils and they were fine, I even checked my timer and it was beautiful. I checked that everything was putting out what it was supposed to (ohms) and what wasn’t supposed to wasn’t. I checked the voltage on the plug and it was like 2-5 volts short, could this be causing an issue? I emptied out the vents and cleaned everything out. The vertical vent did have build up but it still isn’t heating. The dryer runs, but it doesn’t heat. I’m so frustrated because I’ve been working on this for four hours and I’ve taken the backings off multiple times. Help!

Your video was very informative. I do have a question, my dryer like most people was operational until it stop proving any heat. I tested all of the thermostats/fuse bar and heating elements, all of these components tested OK, continuity was present without any shorts at the heating element housing. My dryer is a Kenmore and like exactly as the one in your video (with all the same component placement). I tested the mechanical timer pulling the connector off going and across A and C terminals for black and red wires. Reading for ohms was 0000, no OL reading. I do not know what other steps to take in determining the problem. One thing I notice, when I turned the dry on, setting it to 40 minutes at the timer the dry operated OK with no heat, but when I set it to air dry it would not turn on. Hope you can provide some insight. Thanks
@LeanOnYourRep
@LeanOnYourRep 4 жыл бұрын
Still sound like a damaged timer, also check your voltage going into the dryer, you should be getting 240 volts together 120 volts separate. And rarely but does happen, motor centrifugal switch could be stuck which means you need to replace the motor

Most of my contemporaries would disagree but I have no loyalty to any brand of voltmeter I get the cheapest one I can buy, usually from Harbor Freight that has audio beep for a continuity test. For washer and dryer repair you only use voltage test for 240 lines and continuity test. If the voltmeter does temperature test that's just a bonus. LOL

Nowadays, you can get a whole heating kit for $35. On mine years ago, the 120v power legs, the red & black wires at the plug on the house was swapped & everything ran but no heat. I swapped them around & got heat. Now, years later, mine stopped heating again & it was my thermostat. Most of these dryers are all the same for Heating Element Kits. Many our different though. I'm watching this to make sure the heating element is supposed to cycle on & off. Which is common sense actually. I turned my dryer on & cold. Once i changed everything out, it took a minute or 2 before the element kicked back on, then it started cycling

We have an old Maytag dryer (model DE8200) that runs but won't heat up. On auto dry, the timer won't advance but it will on air fluff. 6 years ago we had the heating element replaced, used the dryer for 2 years after, then moved and put the dryer in a storage unit for 4 years--the apartment we were renting came with a washer and dryer so we didn't need ours--where it was exposed to hot and cold conditions. We moved again recently and the place we moved to is old and has a 3-prong outlet. We replaced the plug and tested both the outlet and the new plug with a multimeter and both are fine. I can't see how it could be the heating element given that we didn't use the dryer for very long after the heating element was replaced. Any ideas what the problem could be? Hubby was recently laid off so we have to fix the dryer ourselves--no money for a repairman (or woman, lol).

I tested it before replacing the panel and it started blowing hot air, but it smelled like it was burning off lint like turning on the heater for the first time of the year. I turned it off and replaced the panel. I proceeded to wash a load of clothes then placed them in the dryer. 20 minutes later I check the dryer, and no heat. What do you suggest?

Clean your air vent out they can get clogged and start a fire and do make your dryer not dry

after watching your video I notice that one of the coil was broken does the heating element need to be replaced?

Yup - if your dryer drum is turning still then the thermal fuse and thermostat are probably ok. You will need to save the thermostat from your old unit, it usually is connected to the coil unit. Always take the old parts with you to your parts supplier just to be certain they match up.

Great video Reggie. I'm planning diagnostics according to this and another video of yours. Lots of lint and moisture has been found in the exhaust so far. When dryer was tumbling and getting hot, clothes would as a rule need more than one cycle to dry. Typically when they neared being dry dryer would make an awful noise that I figured was too-much-heat related, and we would stop it and let it cool awhile and then run it again until the noise returned. Hard to describe the noise - but it sounded like something was wearing out, loudly. Do you have any ideas what this noise might be and how it might direct troubleshooting? Thank you!

Thank you Ben for viewing my videos. The noise depends on the type of dryer. Some dryers have rear hub bearings some have front tub bearings that can become worn overtime. Also could be your belt pulley or motor from the heavy moisture and Heat. You may also have a bunch of lint surrounding the motor. it has a sensor that turns off the motor if it overheats you might want to disassemble your dryer and clean it out because if your dryer vent had a clog you might have a lot of blowback lint inside the dryer

Can you do a video showing how to replace the first model regulator on the element? Mine has the second model and I’m not sure how to replace the newer model. Thanks!
