Yeh, only do it if the wins secured, and you’re 100% sure you are far from your PR, which is probably never a good idea in a 100, 200, probably even a 400. Reserve it for the tactical Distance races like the 1500, 800, 5k, etc

mYSport I mean, for qualifiers, small meets, when your just testing the waters sure. But when you’re at a world championship or some major meet in the finals and your coming out clearly in good time (possibly world record time) I don’t think there’s any reason to ease up (in a bad way as in intentionally slow down). And you say it’s for preservation, but that means only 1 person is ever preserving themselves, because the only person to ever ease up is in first.

Only Bolt can do it and break records..However, I still believe his 9.69 is the greatest because if he hadn't ease up 20m before finish the WR would have flash @ 9.52 or even lower. That race still blow my mind to this day.

When you think after the age of 23 Bolt declined. Now we have to wait for a similar physical specimen who does take it seriously. That's when Bolts records fall.

at the time Michael Johnson had the world record in the 200 and 400 so he easily had speed endurance and sprinting a 200 would be nothing for him but with bolt being a world record 100 and 200 sprinter ... im sure if bolt and Johnson were both in the same heat they would've pushed each other and both ran under 19sec in the 200

@@jasonhearn5818 In his youth Bolt was a 200m and 400m runner. He had to convince his coach that he was capable of competing in the 100m. His coach at the time thought him too tall to be a competitive 100m sprinter due to a slow sprint start.

Yeah, this is true, but, right to be said, Bolt has always ran the first 100m "forcing" his pace. I think he could've ran the second part of a 200m dash in less than 9.2" with a curve covered in 10" flat. 9.92" + 9.27" is quite inhuman.

Valery Borzov of USSR won gold in 200m as well as 100m at Munich Olympic 1972, but not that fast. I wanted Lewis to break that record; also Joe Deloach at Seoul Olympic 1988 who clocked a good time : 19.75 beating Lewis in the final. It's close to Mennea's WR. Therefore, Pietro Mennea deserves to be part of the history.

Carl Lewis chased those 3 WRs : 100m, 200m and long jump, got close to all, but eventually succeeded in 100m at Tokyo WC 1991 with 9.86 which was previously owned by Calvin Smith. Mike Powell's WR (8.95) that broke Bob Beamon's WR long jump seems to stay longer. Powell 's WR was also set at Tokyo WC 1991. Nowadays, very rarely to see someone reach 8.60m.

Drew, that's not what NLS is referring to. They're mentioning how close the FIRST 100m of the 200m race is to his PB in a 100m race. Both of these races and metrics being referenced are from a "dead start". With that stated, I'd argue that the mechanics of running a curved 100m (beginning of the 200m) are different than a 100m open - straight. It is possible to angle your run to actually run technically less than a full 100m by either running closer to the center throughout, or swinging closer later but before the straight comes up. Yet, some runners, ahem, Wallace Spearmon, struggle with the curves to a degree that it actually gives them a disadvantage. My bet is that Michael Johnson (the guy with a 10.09 PB) is not at a disadvantage at the least, on curves seeing as though he's not a long and tall stride kind of guy. Nonetheless, it's impressive that he pulled that off in a longer race. He probably, in theory, should have a sub-10 on the books.

I would think so, as when you think about it. Indoor 200m times are slower than 200m outdoor times and they have 2 bends which are tighter. So it's like the less bends and the less tighter they are, the quicker

My fastest time was around a bend. So think it has to do how you feel on the day, body and bunch of other factors. However this will certainly not be the case for everyone as everyone physiology is not completely the same.

Sorry - Smith and Carlos said it wasnt a Black Panther Salute but a "Human Rights Salute". Both athletes were opposed to violence and internal terror. @@timn4481 Basically that 200m track isn't a standard track. Because the turn is wider it's easier to run quickly as the more of "turn" you run on the slower it is compared so say a straight 200m. There's a reason Blake didn't ever get close to them time on any other tracks.

Yeah. Everyone conveniently leaves him out when talking about the 100m record. He had a 9.79 in 1988 and he was still improving. That wasn't equalled for like 12 years. He had a great start but not as good of a finish. Who knows what he could have accomplished if Canada was as dirty as the US.
